Rishab Shetty to Star in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Historical Epic
Kannada superstar Rishab Shetty, fresh off his pan-India success, is all set to collaborate with acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker for a monumental historical drama. Despite juggling multiple projects, including the much-anticipated Telugu film Jai Hanuman, Rishab has reportedly committed dates for this grand venture.
A source close to the development shares, “Rishab’s reach now transcends regional boundaries. His larger-than-life image and emotional connect with audiences across India have made him one of the most sought-after stars. The days of actors being confined to a single language industry are truly over.”
This ambitious project is being spearheaded by noted producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri, known for big-ticket films like Thalaivii and 83. According to industry buzz, Rishab will take on the legendary role of Emperor Krishnadevaraya, the iconic Vijayanagara ruler famed for his valor, intellect, and patronage of art and culture.
What makes this project even more exciting is the South Indian directorial debut of Ashutosh Gowariker, the visionary behind classics like Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar, and Swades. Deeply inspired by the grandeur of Krishnadevaraya’s reign (1509–1529), Gowariker and his team have been meticulously crafting a powerful script that captures the emperor’s legacy.
“Krishnadevaraya was not only a mighty warrior but also a revered cultural icon, honored with titles like ‘Andhra Bhoja’ and ‘Karnatakaratna’. Gowariker was captivated by the richness of the Vijayanagara Empire and is planning to recreate it with majestic sets and an epic narrative,” the source adds.
With a star-studded cast expected to feature leading names from both Bollywood and the South, and a lavish production scale, this untitled historical film is poised to become a milestone in Indian cinema.
Confirming the news, producer Vishnu Induri said, “Yes, we are planning a magnum opus with Rishab Shetty and Ashutosh Gowariker, and it will go on floors soon.”
