HC: DGP should resign if he can’t control AP police

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh, in a shocking turn of events, has asked the DGP of Andhra Pradesh, Goutam Sawang to resign his post if he can’t control or keep a check on the Andhra Pradesh Police. This statement has come from the HC after the AP police has failed to put into effect the Rule of Law, despite the HC ordering to do so multiple times.

The Rule of Law has been asked to put into effect after the Police of Andhra Pradesh are taking law into their own hands and are arresting people due to political agendas or personal agendas. A similar incident like this took place when the police arrested a man named Venkatraju in Amalapuram Mandal Indupuri, against the law.

Following his arrest, Venkatraju’s family members filed a Habeas Corpus petition in the High Court. However, the police have said that they do not have Venkataraju in their custody, despite Venkatraju’s family providing proof of the very same. The High Court has condemned the way the Andhra Pradesh police department is behaving with respect to this issue.

This is not the first time that something like this has happened in Andhra Pradesh, more than 3 incidents like this have taken place in the past. The High Court had also asked the DGP to appear in front of the court several times back then, and had asked him to state the reasons for such behavior on behalf of the police department.

Even though the HC has taken such measures, there hasn’t been any change in the way the AP police is behaving with the people of the state, which is tragic. With the people getting fed up with the wway the AP police is behaving, and with the AP police repeatedly not heeding the orders given by the HC, the HC has now asked the DGP to resign if he is not able to get the situation under control.
