Pouring cold water on the hopes of the dissidents that Bandi Sanjay would be removed as the state BJP president after the expiry of his term and would be replaced by someone else, the national leadership of the party has in principle decided to continue him as the state BJP president for another term.
This effectively means that the BJP would go to polls for the Telangana assembly in 2018 and the Lok Sabha in 2019 under the leadership of Bandi Sanjay only. Bandi Sanjay’s term as president would end in March next year. Since the state would be in election mode at that time, the national leadership feels that changing the president at such a stage would not be a wise move.
If he gets another extension, he would be the state president till March 2026 . Significantly, the political careers of several seniors, who are in their late sixties, would come to an end making Sanjay an unquestioned leader of the BJP in Telangana state. This would also help him in cementing his position in the party.
It may be recalled that some disgruntled seniors have been holding secret conclaves opposing the leadership of Bandi Sanjay. They feel that Bandi was sidelining them and was trying to bring young leaders in their place. However, the party’s national leadership has taken a serious view of these secret conclaves and told them to mend their ways.
