Bandi Sanjay completes 2 years as T BJP chief

On Friday, March 11, BJP Telangana state president Bandi Sanjay will complete two years in office. His two years as the BJP president have been eventful and tumultuous. As he completes his two years in office, he appears to be enjoying the complete confidence of the national leadership of the party. He seems to be going strong by each passing day despite some opposition from the seniors in the party.

Bandi Sanjay took over reins of the party when the party had just one MLA in the assembly. Soon after he took over reins after the 2019 elections, the BJP managed to post victories in both Dubbak and Huzurabad byelections. There is no doubt that the BJP candidates in both these constituencies were hugely popular and charismatic. But, Sanjay toiled hard for their victory.

The high point is the improved performance of the BJP in the GHMC elections. His incessant campaigning and high voltage attacks on the TRS and KCR have helped the BJP win more than 50 municipal divisions. Though Covid affected his tenure and he had to take inordinately long time to constitute his team, Sanjay made a mark through his padayatras.

He did face some problems with the seniors in the party. Some seniors, especially those from his home turf of Karimnagar district, have been working against him. They held several meetings opposing his leadership. However, strong support from the Centre ensured that the dissidence did not grow stronger. It is now clear that Sanjay is all set to lead the party in 2023 assembly elections and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
