Varun Tej: Anantapur Is the Heart of Korean Kanakaraju

The promotional campaign for Korean Kanakaraju gathered further momentum as the makers launched the film’s energetic folk song Raasa Gummadi at a grand event in Anantapur. Mega Prince Varun Tej, director Merlapaka Gandhi, and producer Rajeev Reddy attended the event, highlighting the deep connection between the region and the film’s story.
Speaking at the launch, director Merlapaka Gandhi revealed that Korean Kanakaraju is set in and around Anantapur, making it essential to shoot extensively in authentic locations to preserve the film’s rooted feel. A native of Tirupati, Gandhi said Rayalaseema has always held a special place in his heart and praised Varun Tej for wholeheartedly embracing the local culture and dialect.
The director shared that Varun himself was keen on filming in Anantapur to maintain the authenticity of the narrative. He also revealed that the actor worked hard to master the Anantapur dialect, adding that audiences have only seen a glimpse of his transformation through Raasa Gummadi. According to Gandhi, Varun’s dialogues, action episodes, and comic timing in the film will pleasantly surprise viewers. He further noted that the comedy track featuring Varun Tej and Satya, along with Ritika Nayak’s performance, will be among the film’s major attractions.
Adding an interesting layer to the narrative, Gandhi mentioned that Anantapur’s well-known Kia manufacturing plant plays a role in establishing the film’s unique Korea connection, which blends naturally into the storyline.
Varun Tej expressed his happiness over launching the song in Anantapur, saying it was only fitting that the promotional journey began in the region that serves as the heart of the film. He thanked the local audience for their warm reception and said the team wanted to celebrate the song in the very place that inspired the story.
The actor also revealed that he approached the energetic dance number with the enthusiasm and charisma associated with his beloved Pedda Nanna, Megastar Chiranjeevi, hoping to recreate the same vibrant screen energy. Varun added that he would have loved to perform the song live with fans during the event, but is still recovering from a leg injury and is taking precautions until he is fully fit.
