Prayagraj, February 4 (IANS): Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck took part in the ongoing Maha Kumbh festivities in Prayagraj and performed a sacred ritual by taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also participated in the ‘dip of faith.’

Following the dip, both leaders offered prayers at the revered Sangam Nose, a site of immense spiritual significance. The Bhutanese monarch arrived in Lucknow on Monday, where he was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome by CM Yogi Adityanath amid vibrant traditional music and dance performances.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Yogi expressed his warm regards, stating, “Hearty welcome and greetings to His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan in Uttar Pradesh, the sacred land of valour, culture, and cultural harmony!”

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is currently visiting Prayagraj to oversee security arrangements and participate in various programs linked to the Maha Kumbh, which has witnessed an extraordinary influx of devotees.

On Monday, a high-profile 110-member Bhutanese delegation, along with Heads of Mission (HoM), spouses of HoMs, and diplomats from 71 countries, attended the Maha Kumbh Mela, further elevating its international stature.

The Maha Kumbh 2025, which commenced on January 13 and will continue until February 26, has already drawn millions of devotees from India and abroad. The event is poised to set new records in terms of attendance, with an estimated 35 crore devotees having already taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam.

Basant Panchami saw a massive turnout, as lakhs of devotees arrived from across the country for the Amrit Snan. Despite a tragic stampede that resulted in 30 fatalities and over 60 injuries, the fervor among pilgrims remains undiminished. In response, security measures have been significantly intensified, with CM Yogi personally overseeing the arrangements to ensure safety and smooth conduct.

The heightened security measures were particularly evident during the Basant Panchami Amrit Snan, where thousands of devotees performed their rituals in an organized and peaceful manner. The Chief Minister had earlier conducted a high-level review meeting from his official residence, emphasizing seamless coordination and stringent security protocols.

As another large congregation is expected today, authorities are leaving no stone unturned to facilitate a secure and spiritually enriching experience for all attendees.
