DSP Faces Criticism Over Delays, Kubera Songs Still Pending

Star music composer Devi Sri Prasad (DSP), who once ruled the charts with back-to-back hits, is now under heavy criticism for frequent delays in his work. Recently, the team of Pushpa 2 opted for composer Sam CS to handle the film’s background score, reportedly due to concerns that DSP’s BGM might not meet the soaring expectations. There were also discussions about extending deadlines, but the makers chose to move ahead with Sam CS.

Adding to the mounting criticism, reports suggest that DSP is yet to deliver two songs for Kubera, even though the film is just two weeks away from its scheduled release. This delay has only intensified the conversation around his recent track record.

Fans of Devi Sri Prasad, who have long admired his unique charm and energetic compositions, are now expressing disappointment. Many feel that the signature DSP magic has been missing in recent years. Despite the grand success of films like Pushpa bringing him back into the spotlight, his inconsistency and delayed deliveries have puzzled both fans and industry insiders — especially considering he is not overloaded with work at the moment.

In 2022, DSP delivered eight releases, but in 2023, he had only one major project: Waltair Veerayya. So far in 2024, he has had two Tamil releases and one Telugu release (Pushpa 2, for which he composed songs and a partial BGM). Apart from Thandel, which was released earlier this year, his upcoming confirmed projects are Kubera and Junior. While there are reports of ongoing discussions for other films, nothing has been officially locked.

Given this relatively light schedule, the inability to meet deadlines has sparked debates, with some pointing out that several of his contemporaries are far more consistent in completing their assignments on time. Notably, Kubera was announced nearly three years ago, and DSP’s association with the project was confirmed early on. The film’s shoot began about a year and a half ago, yet two songs remain undelivered.

On the other hand, some defend DSP, citing that an audio launch event was already held in Chennai, raising questions about the need for additional songs at this stage. Even the producer recently clarified that the blame doesn’t rest entirely on DSP, as the delivery timelines also depend on the director’s coordination.

Amidst this storm of speculation and criticism, DSP continues to make headlines for the wrong reasons. However, his fans remain hopeful that he will soon bounce back with a blockbuster album and silence all the doubts surrounding his career.
