Google is introducing its “Personal Intelligence” feature to the Gemini app in India, aiming to deliver a more personalized and context-aware AI experience. First unveiled earlier in 2026, this feature now expands to Indian users by connecting Gemini with their Google ecosystem, including apps like Gmail and Google Photos.
Personal Intelligence will be rolled out as an opt-in feature, meaning it will remain disabled by default. Users will need to manually enable it and choose which Google services they want to connect, such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search. This allows the AI assistant to provide more tailored and relevant responses based on individual usage patterns.
On the privacy front, Google emphasizes that user data remains secure within its ecosystem. The company states that Gemini will not train on personal data from Gmail or Photos. Instead, it will only use data from user interactions within the Gemini app to improve functionality. Users will also have full control over what they connect and can manage permissions at any time.
The feature’s core strength lies in its ability to understand and connect information across multiple sources. It can retrieve specific details from emails, photos, or videos and combine them to deliver meaningful answers. For instance, Gemini can pull booking details from Gmail, find relevant images or screenshots from Photos, and even suggest places or ideas based on YouTube content—all in a seamless, context-aware manner.
Initially, the Personal Intelligence feature will be available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra users in India, with plans to extend it to free-tier users in the coming weeks. It will be accessible across Web, Android, and iOS platforms, and will work with all models available in the Gemini model picker.
