JD Vance Praises Indian In-Laws, Flags H-1B Visa Misuse

JD Vance, the Vice President of the United States, recently spoke about the contributions of immigrants while also raising concerns over the misuse of the H-1B visa programme.

Vance, who is married to Usha Vance—whose family hails from Vadluru village in Andhra Pradesh—highlighted the positive impact immigrants have had on the country. The H-1B visa programme, widely used by American companies, especially in the technology sector, enables the hiring of skilled foreign professionals, a large number of whom are Indians working in IT and healthcare fields.

Speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Georgia, Vance addressed questions about the challenges H-1B visa holders face in obtaining Green Cards. He acknowledged that there are instances of misuse within the system but stressed that it is equally important to recognize the valuable contributions made by immigrants.

Vance remarked that one can acknowledge flaws in the H-1B system while still appreciating how immigrants have enriched the United States. Referring to his personal connection, he said he deeply respects his Indian-origin in-laws, describing them as individuals who have made meaningful contributions to American society.
He also shared insights about his father-in-law’s journey—from moving to the United States for education to eventually becoming a citizen—emphasizing that he fully embraced American identity without promoting any agenda tied to his country of origin.

Meanwhile, changes proposed during the tenure of former President Donald Trump have had a notable impact on the H-1B programme. These include measures such as a proposed $100,000 fee for certain visas and rules that prioritize higher-paid positions. The intention behind these changes, according to the administration, is to protect American workers and improve wage standards, though they continue to spark debate among employers and immigration experts.
