Amid the widespread acclaim for Rishab Shetty’s “Kantara Chapter 1”, a video surfaced on social media showing a fan dressed as a Daiva entering a theatre in Tamil Nadu. In another instance, a few cinephiles performed a scene from the prequel outside a cinema hall.
In response, the makers, Hombale Films, issued an official statement requesting fans to refrain from imitating the Daiva characters, emphasizing that these portrayals are not meant for casual mimicry.
The statement read, “To cinephiles and the global audience, Dhaivaradhane is a profound symbol of faith and cultural pride within Tulunadu, Karnataka. Our films, Kantara and Kantara Chapter 1, were created to respectfully portray this devotion and celebrate the glory of the Daivas. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the deep respect and unwavering devotion central to Dhaivaradhane are honored, sharing the heritage of Tulu soil with the world.”
The makers further added, “We have noticed some individuals imitating Daiva characters in public spaces, which can hurt the religious sentiments of the Tulu community. Dhaivaradhane, as featured in our film, is rooted in spiritual tradition and is not intended for performance or casual mimicry. We urge audiences to act responsibly and respect the sacredness of these portrayals.”
Hombale Films concluded by appreciating the overwhelming response to the film and called for fans to preserve the sanctity of this invaluable cultural heritage.
