Jagan Returns to AP, But Political Momentum Remains Low

After spending a few weeks in London, followed by a luxurious stay at the Bengaluru Palace, Pulivendula MLA and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has returned to Andhra Pradesh—albeit for what seems to be a brief visit.

Jagan arrived at Gannavaram Airport a few hours ago, receiving a grand welcome from his party supporters and representatives. Following the warm reception, he proceeded to his residence in Tadepalli, where he held a short meeting with party leaders. However, his return has not brought any significant political activity, as the much-anticipated Fees Poru protest regarding the fee reimbursement process has been postponed.

YCP supporters had pinned hopes on Jagan leading this protest, expecting him to actively fight for the cause. However, due to the ongoing election code related to the upcoming MLC elections, the protest has now been rescheduled to February 12, disappointing many party workers and followers.

It has been eight months since the assembly elections, yet Jagan has rarely made public appearances or actively engaged with the people of Andhra Pradesh. He has consistently skipped Assembly sessions and has not initiated any major protest events across the state. This lack of opposition presence in the state is being seen as a missed opportunity, as it reduces any political vacuum against the ruling NDA government.

Political analysts note a stark contrast between Jagan’s aggressive campaign before the 2019 elections—when he was determined to take on the then-TDP government—and his current approach. They observe that the fire and determination that once drove him to victory seem to be missing, as he appears more complacent in recent times. Whether he can reignite his political momentum remains to be seen.
