Kantara Chapter 1 Prepares for Grand Release Amid Ticket Price Hike Uncertainty

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara emerged as a blockbuster in Kannada cinema, with its Telugu-dubbed version also achieving widespread success, bringing pan-Indian recognition to the actor-director. The film’s prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, is now set for a grand release on October 2, with a high-profile pre-release event scheduled for this evening.

Mythri Movie Makers, which acquired the film’s Nizam rights, is reportedly planning to seek approval for a ticket price hike in the Telugu states, leveraging the festive season and the strong buzz around the film. Given that the first installment resonated particularly well with rural audiences and family viewers, a higher ticket rate could prove profitable if approved.

However, the approval remains uncertain. Recently, when a ticket hike was granted for OG, the cinematography minister clarified that the government order (GO) had been passed without his knowledge and emphasized that there would be no further ticket price increases in Telangana, citing concerns about burdening citizens. The Telangana High Court has also stayed the order, adding to the complexity.

In light of this, industry experts suggest that promoting the film aggressively while keeping ticket prices reasonable may be the best approach, especially as attracting audiences to theatres has become increasingly challenging.

Notably, advance bookings for Kantara: Chapter 1 have already commenced worldwide, except in the Telugu states. The film’s pre-release event later today may provide further clarity on the ticket pricing and distribution strategy.
