Released earlier this month as a Dussehra special, Kantara: Chapter 1 arrived in cinemas amid sky-high expectations. While the pre-release buzz slightly dipped just before its debut, the film opened to a solid start and quickly proved its strength at the box office. Director and lead actor Rishab Shetty has once again delivered a massive blockbuster, silencing all doubts about the film’s performance.
Audiences across India have embraced Kantara: Chapter 1 with tremendous enthusiasm. In the Kannada version, the film has broken every existing box office record — even surpassing the lifetime collections of the original Kantara. It’s also performing exceptionally well in Telugu and Hindi markets, maintaining steady collections even into its third week, despite stiff competition from the Diwali releases.
According to the makers, Kantara: Chapter 1 has now grossed ₹717 crore worldwide, an extraordinary milestone by any standard. With this, the film has already overtaken Saiyaara’s ₹600 crore mark and is now inching closer to the year’s top grosser, Chhaava, which currently leads with around ₹800 crore.
All eyes are now on the film’s Diwali weekend performance, which could decide whether Kantara: Chapter 1 becomes the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. With no major releases scheduled for the next couple. of months, Rishab Shetty’s magnum opus stands a strong chance of claiming that crown.
