BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi President Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who has been in the spotlight for several weeks, has once again stirred political discussions. During a protest at Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad against the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation’s (TGSRTC) recent hike in bus pass fares, Kavitha invoked Telangana regional pride with a unique suggestion.
While addressing the media, Kavitha proposed that people should greet each other by saying “Jai Telangana” instead of the usual “Hi” or “Hello.” This statement quickly triggered mixed reactions on social media and among the public. Some Telangana supporters backed Kavitha’s call to revive regional sentiment, while many others criticized the move, saying, “You suddenly remembered the Jai Telangana slogan after nearly 10 years.”
The slogan “Jai Telangana” holds deep significance in the state’s history. In 2014, under the leadership of her father and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), the TRS party played a crucial role in achieving separate statehood for Telangana after decades of struggle. That year, KCR became the first Chief Minister of the newly formed state, while Kavitha was elected as an MP.
Kavitha’s recent emphasis on Telangana sentiment suggests that the BRS party is once again looking to capitalize on regional pride to counter the growing influence of Revanth Reddy’s Congress party, especially with the upcoming general elections drawing near.
Whether this renewed push for Telangana sentiment will yield political dividends for BRS remains to be seen in the coming months.
