Biopics are nothing new to Bollywood, as Hindi cinema has successfully explored this genre over the years. Now, a prestigious biopic is reportedly in the making, centered on the life of legendary actress Meena Kumari, fondly known as the “tragedy queen” of Indian cinema. Actress Kiara Advani is in talks to play this iconic role.
If Kiara agrees and the film succeeds, it could become a career-defining project for her — much like Keerthy Suresh’s transformative role in Mahanati, where she brilliantly portrayed the legendary Savitri.
The biopic will be directed by Sidharth P. Malhotra, who has already secured the rights to Meena Kumari’s story. The project will be produced in collaboration with Saregama and the Amrohi family, who have given their full support. The team feels Kiara is an apt choice to portray such a nuanced character, and pre-production work is already underway.
Kiara is reportedly enthusiastic about the narration and is likely to come on board, although she has yet to give her final confirmation. This will also mark her first film after her pregnancy. Given that Kiara has so far been known for glamorous and commercial roles, this biopic will be a significant challenge for her as an actor. It remains to be seen whether Kiara can rise to the occasion and create magic on screen, just as Keerthy Suresh did with Mahanati.
