The debate surrounding Sai Pallavi’s casting as Sita in director Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious epic Ramayana has resurfaced after veteran actor Annu Kapoor questioned whether she was the ideal choice for the revered role. His remarks sparked fresh discussions on social media, with several members of the film fraternity stepping forward to support the actress.

Filmmaker Hemanth Madhukar strongly defended Sai Pallavi, calling the criticism “unfortunate” and emphasizing that she has consistently proven herself as one of the finest performers in South Indian cinema.

“Questioning Sai Pallavi’s immense talent is unfortunate. She is one of the finest performers from the South and deserves every bit of respect for being chosen to play such a prestigious role in a Bollywood epic,” Hemanth said.

Addressing the argument that Sita should be portrayed only by a fair-skinned actress, the director dismissed the notion outright. He stressed that acting ability should take precedence over appearance and expressed complete faith in Nitesh Tiwari’s casting decision.

“If the objection is that only a fair-skinned actress should portray Sita, that is simply not correct. Director Nitesh Tiwari is the best person to decide who fits the role, and I believe he has made the right choice. Sai Pallavi will effortlessly bring the character alive because it is a performance-driven role, especially after Sita reaches Ashoka Vatika. The character demands immense emotional depth, and only a few actresses possess the ability to portray those emotions convincingly,” he added.

Hemanth also recalled several iconic portrayals of Sita in South Indian cinema, including Anjali in Lava Kusa, Jayaprada in Seetha Kalyanam, Nayanthara in Sri Rama Rajyam, and Revathi in the Tamil film Ilangeswaran. He expressed confidence that Sai Pallavi would add her own memorable interpretation to the legendary character.

Veteran cinematographer Chota K. Naidu also backed the actress, stating that Sai Pallavi possesses the qualities needed to portray Sita’s grace, compassion, patience, and inner strength.

“Sai Pallavi is playing the revered role of Goddess Sita, the daughter of Bhoodevi. Good looks alone do not determine an actor’s suitability for a role. It is talent that matters, and Sai Pallavi has that in abundance,” he said.

Responding to criticism over the actress’s language skills, Chota K. Naidu argued that language has never been a barrier for true talent.

“English or Hindi are merely languages. They have nothing to do with Sai Pallavi’s acting abilities. Jackie Chan and director John Woo achieved global recognition despite not being fluent in English. Talent always speaks louder than language,” he remarked.

As Ramayana continues to remain one of the most anticipated Indian films in production, Sai Pallavi’s casting as Sita continues to generate debate. However, with several respected filmmakers and technicians rallying behind her, expectations remain high that the acclaimed actress will deliver a powerful and emotionally resonant performance in the iconic role.
