Nagender’s Dilemma, Torn Between Congress, YSR, and KCR

Share

It has been more than a year since Revanth Reddy took charge and uprooted the KCR-led government to establish the Congress administration in Telangana. During this period, he managed to steer Congress through turbulent times, effectively containing group politics and keeping senior leaders in check—a task not easily accomplished.

However, signs of internal strife have begun to surface as some senior leaders start expressing their individual opinions. A statement by Congress veteran Danam Nagender recently stirred the political landscape. In a media interaction, Nagender revealed that he still keeps photos of both YS Rajasekhar Reddy and KCR in his house, signifying the fond memories he shares with them and the respect he holds for them. “It’s not the right time to hang Revanth Reddy’s photo in my house, but perhaps it will happen in the future,” Nagender said, drawing attention to the fact that he values both the former CM and the current BRS leader.

This comment is not entirely surprising considering that YSR gave Nagender his first cabinet position in 2009. Afterward, in 2018, Nagender shifted to BRS, where he won twice as an MLA and formed a strong bond with KCR. Strangely, he returned to Congress under Revanth Reddy’s leadership in 2024. Yet, he continues to hold photos of YSR and KCR in his home, indicating a complex political journey.

It is also significant that, despite being part of the Congress now, Nagender openly opposed his own government on the issue of the Chintalbasti illegal constructions, taking a stance against the government and the Hyderabad Development Authority (HYDRAA). This opposition shows that he is at a crossroads with his Congress affiliation, leaving room for speculation about his future in the party.

Nagender’s public statement raises many questions about his loyalty to the Congress leadership and his long-term political strategy, as his actions seem to highlight ongoing internal conflicts withn the party.
