Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Ganta exuded confidence that the State would remain united. He also pointed out that before any decision was taken, the report of the State Congress in-charge Digvijay Singh would be necessary.

Both the ruling Congress and opposition TDP appear to be determined to get as much public sympathy as possible from the situation ahead of elections. This resulted in a serious quarrel and a near fist fight between the TDP MP Ramesh Rathod and Congress MP V Hanuumanta Rao, in the presence of the victims and to the disgust of millions that watched the fight on TV channels. Finally police had to intervene and separate the two MPs who caught hold and pushed each other.

The dispute first started between minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and TDP MP Narayana. Both the TDP and Congress arranged two separate aircrafts at the Dehradun airport to move the stranded Telugu passengers from the flood-torn state. It is the complaint of the TDP leaders that while they brought the victims from the flood area to Dehradun, Congress leaders were standing at the airport with a broad smile welcoming them, to give an impression that it was they who came to their rescue. However, Congress leaders also said it was the TDP which tried to claim credit for the passengers they had rescued. There is also dispute over which flight to board. Like in the good old days when private bus operators used to pester the passengers to board their buses, Congress and TDP leaders pestered the passengers to board their flights. Congress leaders said while their flight was direct to Hyderabad, the TDP flight was only up to New Delhi. VH said they only told the passengers that they could go straight to Hyderabad by boarding the government flight and buses were arranged from the airport to their native places. TDP leaders also alleged that union minister Balaram Naik had abused TDP MP Narayana.

Rathod cursed the Congress by saying that people would themselves teach a fitting lesson to the party.

TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu had alleged that Congress leaders had kidnapped their bus driver so that the passengers they were bringing would miss the flight. He also said that the doctors and the medical camp they were conducting at the AP Bhavan Delhi were thrown out.

VH said Chandra Babu Naidu the leader who ruled the state for 9 years forgot his level and provoked his party men to indulge in the fight. The fight occurred right in the presence of Chandra Babu Naidu.

“Our people have climbed their way to the extreme lands and these people have just come to show off, the like of Chandrababu Naidu and his partymen. Are they humans? They don’t possess a soul. They are corrupt and want to politicise issues,” said Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary. “Our leaders have been out there at ground zero and working for the people to rescue them,” she added.

Political observers feel that the new proposal was well thought of by the Congress leaders, who think that through this, they could control their twin problems -K Chandrasekhara Rao and Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

It is being said that Congress senior leader and former minister J C Diwakar Reddy mooted this proposal first. Congress High Command is feeling that while it could satisfy the people of Telangana and marginalize the TRS and its chief K Chandrasekhara Rao, it could also reduce the influence of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the Rayalaseema region by dividing his own stronghold into two pieces. Congress leadership is feeling that both the TRS and the YSR Congress could be controlled through this proposal.

Jagan has no known strength in the Telangana region. However, he is strong in the Rayalaseema region. Congress High Command feels that even if Jagan could get some seats in Anantapur and Kurnool districts, he would not be able to attain majority in the Rayala Telangana state. Jagan would have to confine himself to the Kadapa and Chittoor districts, apart from the other Seemandhra districts. It should be seen if the Telangana leaders would accept the proposal of Rayala Telangana. Most have already rejected the proposal. Still when they are called to the discussion table, they might accept it, Congress leaders are hoping. 

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi, as a tourism minister, has announced Rs.100 crores special package for the renovations of the Himalayan temples. He said the funds will be utilized for the basic amenities of the affected areas. He called for the wide range of contributions from cine industry to rebuild the devastated temples and complexes.  

Ponnala contested as Congress candidate in 2009 and defeated the TRS candidate by 236 votes. However, the election official earlier declared that Kommuri won the seat by 44 votes and then corrected the announcement by stating that Ponnala won by 236 votes. Kommuri challenged this in the high court. Ponnala had appeared in the court several times. He even went to the Supreme Court where he received a flak.

The court continued to be heard in the high court. As Kommuri’s lawyer had also completed cross examination of Ponnala and the arguments on both sides had concluded, the high court reserved its decision on Tuesday.

The court directed the agency to submit original CDs containing the full text of their speeches. After this, the court adjourned further hearing of the case to July 1.

It may be recalled that both the ministers spoke to the media when they resigned to the cabinet. They claimed in the media conferences that they were innocent and expressed confidence that they would come out clean. CBI submitted CDs of the visuals of the press conferences and told the court that what they said amounted to contempt of court. The agency questioned how the two could claim to be innocent and assert that they would come ont clean, when the case was before the judiciary.

The agency obtained the visuals of the media conferences from the You Tube and submitted the CDs to the court, in support of its argument. However, both the ministers challenged the authenticity of the You Tube visuals and said they would submit their counters only if originals were given to them. In a memo filed by them in the court, they said the visuals of their speeches in the You Tube were not clear and expressed willingness to file their counters only if the original CDs were submitted to them. They also contended that they had a resonsibility to the peple who elected them, why they had to resign.
