TTD Rejects Ministers’ Guest House Land Proposals at Tirumala

In a significant development, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board, at its recent meeting, is learnt to have rejected proposals submitted by two senior ministers in the Chandrababu Naidu cabinet, including Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad, seeking allocation of land at Tirumala for the construction of official guest houses.
According to sources, both Pawan Kalyan and Satya Prasad independently requested the TTD to allocate land on the Tirumala hills for building guest houses for their respective departments—Panchayat Raj and Revenue.
Satya Prasad reportedly argued that the Revenue Department, which also oversees the Endowments Department, plays a crucial role in VIP protocol and festival arrangements at Tirumala. Citing these responsibilities, he sought two acres of land on the hill shrine for a dedicated guest house.
Earlier, a similar proposal was submitted from the office of the Deputy Chief Minister, requesting land for the construction of a Panchayat Raj Bhavan guest house at Tirumala.
Both proposals were deliberated upon during the TTD trust board meeting, after which the board decided to reject the requests. The decision was primarily based on the acute scarcity of land on the Tirumala hills, where new constructions have been restricted for several years.
These restrictions are in accordance with High Court directives, under which the TTD has resolved to limit itself to renovation and reconstruction of existing dilapidated guest houses and cottages, rather than permitting any new buildings.
In a related decision, the TTD has also taken a firm stand on the naming of guest houses, reiterating that all guest houses at Tirumala will continue to bear names associated with deities. The administration has clearly conveyed to donors and stakeholders that no new guest houses will be named after individuals or government departments.
Inflated OTT Deal Claims Expose Telugu Cinema’s 2025 Reality

The year 2025 has emerged as a major setback for the Telugu film industry, marking a sharp contrast to the nearly eight years of consistent theatrical growth and record-breaking revenues from the non-theatrical market.
In the immediate post-COVID phase, Telugu cinema benefited enormously from the OTT boom, with streaming platforms aggressively acquiring digital rights—often at highly inflated prices. However, the OTT ecosystem has since undergone a significant correction. Leading platforms have become far more cautious, drastically cutting back on content acquisition budgets.
As a result, even reputed production houses have been caught off guard by the relatively modest offers now being quoted for their films. In such a climate, it is both misleading and irresponsible to propagate claims of “record-breaking” OTT deals that are completely out of sync with current market realities.
Last month, several media outlets and social media handles hyped reports suggesting that SS Rajamouli allegedly rejected an ₹800 crore OTT offer, supposedly holding out for an even bigger deal. This narrative appears to be nothing more than a promotional gimmick. No OTT platform would realistically commit such an exorbitant amount, especially when the film’s production budget itself does not justify that valuation. Had such an offer genuinely existed, it is highly unlikely that any filmmaker—including Rajamouli—would have turned it down.
Now, a similar buzz is being created around the Allu Arjun–Atlee project, with claims that Netflix has closed an OTT deal worth ₹600 crore. These figures, too, seem grossly exaggerated. For context, Netflix reportedly paid around ₹285 crore for Dhurandhar—and that was after the film proved itself as a mega blockbuster at the box office.
Even under the most optimistic assumptions, it is unrealistic to expect OTT platforms to go beyond the ₹300–350 crore range for Telugu films, even for projects headlined by stars like Allu Arjun or helmed by directors of SS Rajamouli’s stature.
By floating astronomical figures such as ₹600 crore and ₹800 crore, certain media outlets and social media accounts are not only misleading audiences but also causing long-term damage to industry perception and expectations. These inflated narratives create false benchmarks, widening the gap between hype and market reality—and ultimately hurting the very industry they claim to celebrate.
The Raja Saab’s Hindi Market to Decide Box Office Fate

Horror romantic comedy The Raja Saab is shaping up to be the next big pan-India release, riding heavily on Prabhas’ massive stardom across both South India and the Hindi belt. Directed by Maruthi, the film is slated for a grand theatrical release on January 9, just ahead of the lucrative Sankranti festival.
Mounted on a staggering budget, the makers have sold the film for whopping prices across all languages, including Hindi. Naturally, the film now requires a phenomenal theatrical run to recover the investment and keep buyers in the safe zone. In this context, the Hindi market becomes absolutely crucial, as Prabhas’ growing fan base in North India could play a decisive role in determining the film’s overall box office fate.
Ahead of its release, The Raja Saab has managed to generate strong buzz in Tollywood, thanks to a crowd-pleasing audio pre-release event and an impressive second trailer. The trailer, in particular, left audiences awestruck, as very few expected Maruthi to deliver such out-of-the-world, visually striking content blended with emotion and drama.
Horror comedy is a proven and time-tested genre in the Bollywood market. Films in this space, when backed by strong narration and conviction, have consistently found favor with North Indian audiences. Recent successes like Stree 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 are clear examples of the genre’s box office strength.
Given that The Raja Saab falls in the same genre—and features Prabhas in the lead along with prominent Bollywood names like Sanjay Dutt and Zarina Wahab in key roles—the film has all the ingredients to strike gold in Hindi circuits. All it needs is an aggressive and well-planned publicity campaign to amplify its reach.
Surprisingly, the makers have so far largely ignored Hindi promotions, which has raised eyebrows in trade circles. With less than two weeks to go, the team needs to urgently ramp up promotions across all languages, with a special focus on the North Indian market, to ensure the buzz picks up before release.
The film’s performance in Hindi circuits will be closely monitored by the trade, as major box office milestones hinge on its acceptance there. Though the delay has cost some momentum, there is still time for the team to organize high-impact promotional campaigns in major North Indian cities, potentially leveraging Sanjay Dutt’s presence to boost visibility.
With Bollywood’s recent blockbuster Dhurandhar still dominating ticket windows, The Raja Saab must make a strong promotional push to divert audience attention. If executed effectively, this strategy could generate the necessary hype and translate into terrific opening numbers at the box office.
Ne Zha 2 Dominates 2025 Global Box Office

When several high-profile Hollywood sequels hit theatres this year, it was widely assumed that at least one of these tentpole releases would dominate the global box office by the end of 2025. However, the year delivered a stunning surprise.
The highest-grossing film of 2025 is neither Avatar 3 nor Jurassic World: Rebirth, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, or any other Hollywood juggernaut. Instead, the crown belongs to Ne Zha 2, a sequel to a Chinese animated blockbuster.
Made on a production budget of approximately ₹700 crore, Ne Zha 2 shattered expectations by grossing an astonishing $2.2 billion (around ₹18,000 crore) worldwide, finishing far ahead of every other film released this year. With this phenomenal performance, it comfortably tops the global box office charts for 2025.
Interestingly, animation dominated the top tier this year. Disney’s Zootopia 2 emerged as the second-highest grosser with close to $1.5 billion, followed by Lilo & Stitch in third place and Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie securing the fourth spot.
Directed and written by Jiaozi (Yu Yang), Ne Zha 2 is inspired by the legendary Chinese mythological character Ne Zha, a demon child. The character is voiced by Lü Yanting and Joseph Cao in Mandarin, and Crystal Lee and Griffin Puatu in English. The film was produced by Chengdu Coco Cartoon in association with Beijing Enlight Media.
Released in January, Ne Zha 2 stormed past the $2 billion mark within just two months, making history as only the seventh film of all time to achieve this rare milestone. The film stands as a testament to China’s rapidly advancing animation technology and highlights the vast, still largely untapped potential of the global animation market.
Notably, Ne Zha 2 is the first non-English animated film ever to cross $2 billion and only the second non-Disney film—after Shrek 2 (2004)—to reach this extraordinary benchmark.
Given current trends, it appears highly unlikely that Hollywood’s much-hyped year-end release, Avatar: Fire and Ash, will be able to replicate or surpass the unprecedented success achieved by Ne Zha 2 in the coming months.
Pooja Hegde & Sreeleela Await Career-Defining Hit

Pooja Hegde and Sreeleela continue to receive steady film offers, but a solid box office success has eluded both actresses in recent times. Despite multiple opportunities, they are still waiting for that one film that can decisively reset their careers.
For Pooja Hegde, her recent Tamil outing failed to make an impact, though she managed to stay in the limelight with a special song appearance in another major project. Now, expectations are pinned on Jana Nayagan. The film is expected to open on a grand scale, especially since it is being projected as Vijay’s final film. However, beyond the opening numbers, the real test for Pooja will be whether she gets a memorable role that allows her screen presence to truly stand out.
Sreeleela, on the other hand, appears to be moving in a slightly different direction. Her role in Parashakti has already generated curiosity, largely due to the performance glimpses seen in songs and teaser visuals. Many believe this film could showcase her acting potential more effectively than her previous roles.
With the festive season approaching, both actresses find themselves at a crucial phase in their careers. Even though they have several projects in hand, one strong and convincing success is essential for them to firmly stay relevant in the highly competitive Kollywood space.
Chiranjeevi May Pivot to Gritty Cinema After Mana Shankar Varaprasad Garu

Megastar Chiranjeevi has largely been associated with commercial entertainers throughout his illustrious career, and he is set to continue in that space with Mana Shankar Varaprasad Garu, slated for release on January 12, 2026 — a film that sits comfortably within his mass-market forte.
However, strong buzz is now circulating in industry circles that after wrapping up KS Bobby’s film, which follows this Anil Ravipudi directorial, Chiranjeevi may take a surprising creative turn by exploring rustic, content-driven cinema.
For decades, the Megastar has been synonymous with grand spectacles filled with songs, action sequences, and whistle-worthy moments. But according to reports, he recently heard a gritty and realistic story from acclaimed Tamil filmmaker Vetrimaaran and is said to have responded positively to the concept.
If this project materialises, it could mark a return to the kind of socially rooted and emotionally intense cinema that defined Chiranjeevi’s early career in the 1980s. Films such as Swayamkrushi, Rudraveena, and Challenge not only highlighted his star power but also showcased his depth as a performer through strong, message-oriented narratives.
Though there is no official confirmation yet, industry insiders believe that Chiranjeevi is consciously looking to diversify his filmography at this stage of his career. The Megastar appears keen on crafting a legacy that extends beyond box-office dominance, potentially reconnecting with the realistic, impactful storytelling that once earned him critical acclaim.
