With expectations riding high, Akhil has pinned his hopes on the commercial action entertainer Lenin, directed by Murali Krishna Abburu, popularly known as Nandu.

Fresh buzz around the film suggests that Akhil’s father, Superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni, recently watched the rushes of Lenin. Reportedly, he suggested a brief reshoot to fine-tune certain portions ahead of the film’s release. While the principal shoot is almost complete, industry chatter indicates that the makers may return to the sets for a little over a week to incorporate these changes.

Murali Krishna Abburu previously directed Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnukatha starring Kiran Abbavaram, and Nagarjuna is said to be keen on ensuring that Lenin does not end up as an average outing for Akhil. Set against a rural Rayalaseema backdrop, the film is positioned as a mass action drama—an important project for Akhil, who has been striving to firmly establish himself. Trump Declares December 24 and 26 Federal Holidays for 2025

In a notable holiday-season decision, US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order designating Christmas Eve (December 24) and the day after Christmas (December 26) as federal holidays for 2025. The move expands the traditional Christmas break for millions of federal employees across the United States.

Under the order, all executive departments and federal agencies will remain closed on these two days. Employees will be excused from duty with full pay, unless their services are required for national security, defence, law enforcement, or other essential public needs. Christmas Day on December 25 is already a recognised federal holiday, and when combined with the weekend, the announcement effectively grants many federal workers a five-day holiday break.

The US Office of Personnel Management clarified that the benefit primarily applies to executive branch federal employees covered under federal holiday and premium pay regulations. Workers who are required to report for duty on December 24 or 26 will be eligible for premium pay in accordance with federal rules.

The declaration does not automatically extend to private-sector employees, state or local government workers, or contract staff. Employers outside the federal system may choose whether or not to observe the additional holidays. Major financial institutions, including the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, will continue operations on December 26, as the executive order does not apply to private or independent entities.

The White House has confirmed that this is a one-time designation for 2025. Any permanent addition to the federal holiday calendar would require approval from the US Congress through legislation.

Police in Jharkhand have busted an interstate burglary gang that used modern digital tools, including Google Maps, to plan a series of high-profile break-ins across Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar. The three-member gang, all residents of Bihar, relied on satellite imagery and street-view features to identify affluent residential areas and vulnerable entry points without conducting physical reconnaissance.

According to East Singhbhum Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey, the accused abandoned traditional “casing” methods and instead used mobile-based mapping applications to virtually survey neighbourhoods. This allowed them to shortlist large houses with weak boundary walls or isolated access points while avoiding suspicion from local residents.

The gang was tracked down following a burglary reported on September 19 in the Golmuri area of Jamshedpur. After a complaint was filed by homeowner Rishabh Kumar, a special investigation team analysed CCTV footage, technical inputs and mobile location data, which led police to Patna. The accused have been identified as Vikas Kumar (27), Raju Kumar (49) and Mohammad Irfan (26).

During raids, police recovered a firearm, live ammunition, stolen gold jewellery and tools used in the crimes. Investigators said the gang followed a “hit-and-run” strategy, travelling to different towns, committing burglaries, and quickly crossing state borders to evade local law enforcement. Using this method, they are believed to have targeted at least six homes in recent months.

Police officials say the case underlines a growing trend of criminals exploiting widely available technology for illegal activities. Authorities have urged residents to strengthen home security measures and remain alert as investigations continue into the gang’s possible involvement in other unsolved cases.

Spread across 300 acres, the Devanahalli campus is a cornerstone of Apple’s strategy to diversify its manufacturing footprint beyond China. Approximately 80% of the employees are women, most of them aged between 19 and 24, many entering the formal workforce for the first time. Industry observers have described the project as a rare example of a large-scale, women-led industrial initiative.

Trial production began in the spring, and the plant has since rapidly progressed from assembling the iPhone 16 to manufacturing Apple’s latest iPhone 17 Pro Max models. More than 80% of the output is currently being exported to international markets, underscoring India’s growing role in Apple’s global supply chain.

To support its expanding workforce, Foxconn is developing the site into a self-contained mini-township. The campus already includes six large dormitories, with future plans for medical centres, schools and recreational facilities. Employees are provided with free accommodation and subsidised meals, while average monthly wages stand at around ₹18,000, making these positions among the highest-paying blue-collar jobs for women in the region.

The project is still in an expansion phase. Foxconn, officially known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, is investing approximately ₹20,000 crore in the facility. Analysts expect the workforce to grow to nearly 50,000 employees by next year as additional assembly lines become operational.

Once fully completed, the Bengaluru plant is expected to surpass Foxconn’s existing facility in Tamil Nadu, emerging as the largest electronics manufacturing hub in India. Indian professionals travelling home to renew their H-1B visas are facing renewed uncertainty after US consular interviews were abruptly postponed, leaving many stranded in India and unable to return to their jobs, according to a report by The Washington Post.

Applicants who had secured interview slots between December 15 and December 26 saw their appointments cancelled or rescheduled without prior notice. The disruption coincided with the rollout of a new social media vetting policy under the Trump administration, which US officials say is aimed at strengthening national security and public safety checks.

Emails reviewed by the newspaper show the US State Department informed applicants that enhanced screening of online activity had triggered the delays. The policy, effective December 15, expands digital footprint checks to all H-1B specialty occupation visa holders and their H-4 dependents. Previously, such scrutiny was largely limited to student and exchange visitor visas, including F, M and J categories.

Immigration lawyers report widespread fallout. Houston-based attorney Emily Neumann said at least 100 of her clients are currently stuck in India, while other lawyers in India and the US are handling dozens of similar cases. “This is the biggest mess we have seen. I’m not sure there is a plan,” said immigration lawyer Veena Vijay Ananth.

Defending the delays, the US State Department said embassies are now prioritising thorough vetting over faster processing, even if it results in longer wait times.

The disruptions come amid a broader tightening of the H-1B regime in 2025. Indian nationals account for 71 per cent of all H-1B visa holders, according to US Citizenship and Immigration Services. In July, the State Department barred H-1B holders from renewing visas in third countries, and in September, President Donald Trump announced a USD 100,000 fee on new H-1B applications filed after September 21.

While existing visa holders are exempt from the new fee, immigration experts warn that prolonged delays could strain employer patience and disrupt businesses reliant on skilled foreign workers.

India–New Zealand FTA Boosts Jobs, Student Mobility, Trade

India and New Zealand have concluded a landmark free trade agreement that places workforce and student mobility at the heart of bilateral economic cooperation. A key highlight of the pact is New Zealand’s commitment to issue 5,000 temporary work visas for Indian nationals for periods of up to three years, covering priority sectors such as information technology, engineering, healthcare, education, yoga, culinary arts and music.

Services form a central pillar of the agreement, with India securing market access across 118 service categories, including IT and other knowledge-based sectors. The pact also introduces a structured student mobility framework and a post-study work arrangement, allowing Indian students in New Zealand to work up to 20 hours per week without any quota restrictions.

On the trade front, India will reduce tariffs on around 70 per cent of its tariff lines, accounting for nearly 95 per cent of the current bilateral trade value, while excluding about 30 per cent of sensitive items. Agricultural imports such as apples, kiwifruit and Manuka honey will be managed through tariff-rate quotas, minimum import prices and seasonal safeguards to protect Indian farmers.

Dairy remains completely excluded from the agreement, reflecting India’s long-standing position on safeguarding the livelihoods of millions of small dairy farmers. Despite New Zealand being a major global dairy exporter, dairy trade between the two countries remains limited.

With bilateral trade currently valued at about $2.4 billion, both countries have expressed confidence that the agreement will help double trade within five years and facilitate up to $20 billion in New Zealand investment into India over the next 15 years.

Calling the collaboration a dream come true, Sparsh praised Naga Chaitanya, director Karthik Dandu, and the rest of the cast. “They are all such kind souls, and the director is a creative genius who gives me the freedom to explore my craft,” he added.

Despite language differences, Sparsh shared that the team has found ways to connect, discuss, and vibe over the nuances of each take. To better immerse himself in the role, the actor also revealed that he is learning Telugu for the film, ensuring an authentic performance for the audience.
