U.S. Expands Travel Ban to 39 Countries in 2026

The U.S. is expanding its travel restrictions once again. On December 4, 2025, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the administration plans to broaden the existing travel ban to include immediate family members of U.S. citizens from nearly 40 countries.
The updated policy, issued via an executive order on December 16, 2025, now places 39 countries under full or partial travel restrictions. These rules officially took effect on January 1, 2026. According to the White House, the expanded ban aims to “prevent the entry of foreign nationals about whom the United States lacks sufficient information to assess the risks they pose.”
Under Proclamation 10998, a complete ban applies to immigrants and all nonimmigrant categories from 20 countries and entities. This includes previously restricted nations as well as several new additions.
Countries under full entry ban: Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Laos, Libya, Mali, Niger, Palestinian Authority Travel Documents, Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
Nationals of these countries — along with holders of Palestinian Authority travel documents — are barred from entering the U.S. as both immigrants and nonimmigrants.
Partial entry ban: Limits apply to specific visa categories for an additional 20 countries. Immigrants and travelers applying for B-1, B-2, B-1/B-2, F, M, and J visas from these nations face restrictions. The affected countries include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Cuba, Dominica, Gabon, The Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Venezuela, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
For Turkmenistan, the restrictions apply only to immigrants, while nonimmigrant visa categories remain unaffected. For all nations under the partial ban, consular officers are instructed to issue other nonimmigrant visas with the shortest validity legally permissible.
The expanded travel restrictions reflect the U.S. government’s ongoing effort to carefully assess entry risks, with significant implications for travelers from the affected countries.
Hidden Travel Gems Around the World to Explore in 2026

While iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu continue to captivate travelers, many in 2026 are seeking experiences beyond the usual wonders. The trend is shifting toward destinations rich in history, visually striking, and still relatively untouched by mass tourism. For those looking for meaningful journeys, quieter landscapes, and stories worth remembering, the world offers several lesser-known marvels that provide a refreshing escape from everyday routines.
In southern Italy, Matera is drawing global attention as the 2026 Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue. Throughout the year, the city will host art residencies, exhibitions, performances, film showcases, and creative workshops. Famous for its ancient cave dwellings carved into rocky landscapes, Matera’s historic Sassi once sheltered families until the mid-20th century. Today, many of these caves have been transformed into boutique hotels and cultural spaces, blending prehistoric history with modern luxury. The city’s 2026 theme, Terre Immerse, highlights its deep connection to land, memory, and identity.
Canada’s Banff National Park continues to be a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, emerald lakes, and vast alpine meadows, Banff offers skiing, hiking, canoeing, and wildlife spotting. A new train route planned for 2026 will improve access from nearby regions. With Canada co-hosting the FIFA World Cup that year, early visits will allow travelers to enjoy the park’s tranquility before the crowds arrive.
In England, the Bradford Pennines Gateway celebrates natural landscapes while promoting biodiversity and public access. Covering over 1,200 hectares, the region includes moorlands, bogs, country parks, and scenic trails. Visitors can explore Ilkley Moor and Penistone Hill, along with historic villages such as Haworth and Thornton. Medieval bridges, hidden waterfalls, and ancient pathways add layers of history to the rolling countryside, making it ideal for slow travel.
Northern Algeria’s Djemila is one of Africa’s most remarkable yet under-visited Roman archaeological sites. Founded by Emperor Septimius Severus as a settlement for retired Roman soldiers, Djemila’s forums, basilicas, temples, and stone arches remain strikingly intact. Archaeologists believe less than half of the ancient city has been uncovered, hinting at vast historical treasures still hidden beneath the surface.
The Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic are increasingly accessible via short flights from major European cities. Known for dramatic cliffs, misty coastlines, and turf-roofed houses, the archipelago features remote villages such as Gásadalur and Saksun. Visitors can kayak along rugged shores or hike windswept hills, while the capital, Tórshavn, offers a vibrant culinary scene with Michelin-starred Nordic dining.
In South Africa’s Northern Cape, the Richtersveld presents a dramatic desert landscape of mountains, arid plains, and coastal stretches shaped by extreme conditions. The Orange River sustains life in this harsh terrain. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Richtersveld is valued for both its biodiversity and the living cultural traditions of its indigenous communities.
El Imposible National Park in El Salvador is a dense tropical forest teeming with rivers, wetlands, and archaeological remnants. Home to hundreds of plant species, diverse mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and nearly 300 bird species, its untouched terrain offers eco-tourism, hiking, and birdwatching opportunities that allow visitors to connect deeply with nature.
For travelers in 2026 who value authenticity over popularity, these hidden gems provide unforgettable journeys across continents. Each destination tells a story shaped by history, culture, and nature, quietly waiting to be discovered by those willing to explore beyond the familiar.
Apple Watch Pushes Year-Round Fitness with New Research and Fitness+ Updates

Apple is strengthening the positioning of the Apple Watch as a year-round fitness and health companion, supported by fresh research findings and a new wave of Apple Fitness+ programmes launching this month. The core focus is clear: helping users stay committed to their fitness goals long after the initial New Year motivation begins to fade.
New insights from the Apple Heart and Movement Study reveal that Apple Watch users don’t just start strong in January—they are more likely to maintain higher activity levels well into the following months. Complementing this research, Apple is expanding its Fitness+ offerings with new structured workout programmes, music-driven sessions, and fresh Time to Walk episodes featuring popular personalities.
According to an analysis of data from around 100,000 participants in the Apple Heart and Movement Study, users consistently increased their daily exercise minutes in January and sustained those levels across the year. The study examined four years of Activity data from participants who regularly wore an Apple Watch.
Following a typical decline in activity during November and December, daily exercise minutes surged in January. More than 60 per cent of users increased their exercise time by over 10 per cent in the first two weeks of the month compared to their December average. Nearly 80 per cent maintained higher activity levels through the second half of January, while about 90 per cent continued those elevated levels through February and March.
Conducted in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the American Heart Association, the study included over 250,000 participants across the United States.
To keep motivation high, Apple is introducing a limited-edition Ring in the New Year award. Apple Watch users can earn the special badge by closing all three Activity rings for seven consecutive days in January.
For the first time, users can also participate in a dedicated Quit Quitting challenge through the Strava app. Those who complete 12 workouts during January will earn a special Apple Watch badge in Strava, highlighting Apple’s expanding integration with third-party fitness platforms.
Starting January 5, Apple Fitness+ is rolling out four new multi-week workout programmes designed to simplify and structure training routines. Make Your Fitness Comeback is a four-week plan aimed at users returning to exercise, featuring short Strength, HIIT, and Yoga sessions.
Build a Yoga Habit in 4 Weeks focuses on flexibility, stress relief, and strength, offering two 10-minute yoga flows each week. For users seeking higher intensity, Back-to-Back Strength and HIIT combines both workout styles into continuous 20-minute sessions, three times a week for three weeks.
Additionally, Strength Basics in 3 Weeks, launching January 12, is tailored for beginners or those restarting strength training, with an emphasis on proper technique and building confidence.
Apple Fitness+ is currently available in 48 countries and regions, including India, with workouts accessible across iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
UPI Hits Record High in December 2025 with 21.63 Billion Transactions

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) wrapped up December 2025 on a historic high, setting new records in both transaction volume and value. In the final month of the year, the digital payments platform processed 21.63 billion transactions worth ₹27.97 lakh crore, marking its strongest monthly performance since launch.
The impressive December numbers reflect a sharp rebound after a slight slowdown in November, driven largely by increased consumer spending during the festive and holiday season. On a year-on-year basis, transaction volumes rose by 29 per cent, while transaction value increased by 20 per cent. Compared to November, volumes grew by 5.66 per cent and transaction value climbed by 6.26 per cent.
Overall, 2025 proved to be a milestone year for UPI. The platform recorded over 228 billion transactions during the year, with a cumulative value of nearly ₹300 lakh crore. This represents a year-on-year growth of 32.5 per cent in transaction volume and 21 per cent in transaction value compared to 2024.
For perspective, UPI processed 172.2 billion transactions worth ₹246.8 lakh crore in 2024, while in 2023, the system handled 117.6 billion transactions valued at ₹182.9 lakh crore, highlighting the rapid pace of adoption across the country.
Despite the strong growth, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has acknowledged challenges in expanding UPI usage beyond its existing core user base. To address this, several initiatives are underway, including features such as UPI Circle, UPI Lite, and the integration of credit cards and credit lines on the UPI platform. Among these, credit-on-UPI is expected to emerge as a key growth driver once adoption gains momentum.
In parallel, NPCI and the Reserve Bank of India are working to expand UPI’s global presence. Plans include enabling cross-border QR-based payments and supporting the adoption of UPI and RuPay technologies in international markets, further strengthening India’s digital payments ecosystem.

With its innovative approach, the film aims to expand the language of Indian cinema, proving that silence can be one of its most powerful tools.
Dhurandhar Sees Dip in Box Office After Crossing ₹1,100 Crore Worldwide

After an extraordinary global run, Ranveer Singh’s spy thriller Dhurandhar is showing signs of slowing down at the box office. The Aditya Dhar-directed film, which recently crossed the ₹1,100 crore mark worldwide, recorded its lowest single-day earnings since release on its fourth Friday.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dhurandhar collected ₹8.75 crore on Friday, taking its total India net collection to ₹747.75 crore. On January 2, the film registered an overall theatrical occupancy of 18 per cent, with morning shows at 9.65 per cent, and afternoon and evening shows at 20.32 per cent and 21.93 per cent respectively. In the NCR region, occupancy stood at 20 per cent across 921 shows, while Mumbai reported 18.33 per cent across 633 shows.
Despite the recent dip, Dhurandhar has already surpassed the lifetime worldwide collections of Pathaan (₹1,069.85 crore) and Jawan (₹1,163.62 crore). The film currently ranks as the sixth highest-grossing Indian film of all time, though it is yet to surpass global box-office giants like KGF Chapter 2, RRR, Pushpa 2: The Rule, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Dangal.
The film continues to hold strong against newer releases, including Tu Meri Main Tera starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, as well as Avatar: Ash and Fan.

This crucial phase was filmed across the scenic yet rugged terrains of Maredumilli, where the team worked at a brisk pace to capture several pivotal sequences. Bhagyashri Borse Pins Hopes on Akhil’s Lenin for Career Breakthrough

It is often rare and challenging for emerging actresses to continue receiving strong offers without delivering a commercial success early in their careers. However, thanks to her striking screen presence and promising acting abilities, Bhagyashri Borse has managed to stay firmly on the radar of filmmakers.
Although her debut film Mr. Bachchan ended up as a box-office disappointment, Bhagyashri stood out with her confident performance, appealing looks, and energetic dance moves, ensuring she remained in the limelight. The actress had a busy 2025 with three releases—Kingdom, Kaantha, and Andhra King Taluka. Unfortunately, none of these films provided the much-needed breakthrough, as they failed to make a significant impact at the box office.
Despite the setbacks, Bhagyashri is set to get yet another promising opportunity, this time opposite Akkineni Akhil in the upcoming rustic action thriller Lenin, slated for a Summer release. Interestingly, she came on board the project as a replacement for Sreeleela, who opted out due to prior commitments.
Bhagyashri is pinning her hopes on Lenin to turn the tide in her favor and deliver her first solid hit in Tollywood. Notably, this marks the second instance where she has stepped into a role previously assigned to Sreeleela. While Kingdom did not bring her the desired recognition, she is keen to rewrite her career trajectory with Lenin.
Set against a gritty Rayalaseema backdrop, Lenin is said to be an intense action-packed period drama revolving around the theme of honor killings. The film is directed by Murali Kishor Abburu and jointly produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni and Naga Vamsi under the banner of Sithara Entertainments.
