Deadly Terror Attack at Hanukkah Event on Sydney’s Bondi Beach Kills 15

Share

Sydney was plunged into shock on Sunday evening after a deadly shooting at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach left at least 15 people dead and dozens injured, Australian authorities confirmed.

The attack occurred around 6:45 pm local time during Chanukah by the Sea, a community event marking the start of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. Hundreds of attendees were gathered at the popular beachfront location when gunfire erupted, triggering panic and a massive emergency response.

New South Wales Police said at least 42 people were taken to hospital, several of them in serious condition. Among the victims were a 10-year-old child and a 40-year-old man who later died from his injuries. Two police officers were also wounded during the incident and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Authorities confirmed that one of the attackers, a 50-year-old man, was shot dead by police at the scene. A second suspect, aged 24, remains in critical condition. Police also discovered two rudimentary improvised explosive devices at the site, which were found to be active, raising serious concerns about the scale and intent of the attack.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as a “terrorist attack” and said it was a targeted act of violence against Jewish Australians. “An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on all Australians,” he said, vowing zero tolerance for hatred and extremism.

The Orthodox Jewish organisation Chabad later confirmed that Rabbi Eli Schlanger, assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi and one of the event’s organisers, was among those killed.

Disturbing videos circulating on social media appear to show two armed men firing from a nearby footbridge. One widely shared clip shows an unarmed civilian confronting one of the attackers, tackling him and seizing his weapon.

The shooting is the deadliest mass attack in Australia since 2022 and has sent shockwaves through a country where such incidents are rare due to strict gun control laws introduced after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre.

International leaders swiftly condemned the violence. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticised the Australian government over what he described as rising antisemitism, while Israeli President Isaac Herzog and UN Secretary-General António Guterres called the attack a horrific and hateful act against Jewish families.

Australian authorities have launched a full-scale investigation and announced heightened security measures nationwide as the country grapples with one of its darkest days in recent years.

Ashika Ranganath Returns to Tollywood with Big Projects

Share

Ashika Ranganath made a mark in Tollywood with Naa Saami Ranga, portraying Varamahalakshmi “Varalu.” Her character—smart, independent, managing her father’s business and family drama while standing her ground—won praise from audiences. Fans appreciated how she held her own on screen, proving that a heroine can truly steal the show when given the right role.

Ashika has also made a name in Kannada cinema, consistently choosing projects that offer her space to shine. Now, she’s making a strong return to Telugu films with two major projects. The first is Vishwambhara alongside Megastar Chiranjeevi, slated for a summer release. The second is Bharatha Mahashayulaku Vignapthi, featuring senior star Ravi Teja. It’s refreshing to see her work with legends while prioritizing meaningful roles over typical pairings or screen age dynamics.

Speaking about her approach, Ashika shared, “I care about the role above everything. A strong story and a good chance to act—that’s enough for me. Who I’m paired with isn’t the priority. Story is the hero. Being on set with legends like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, and Ravi Teja is a blessing.”

Buzz is already building around Bharatha Mahashayulaku Vignapthi. The song Bella Bella is trending, and her modern, role-driven look has fans excited. With her smart choices and memorable performances, Ashika is steadily carving out her own space in Tollywood, proving that talent and strong roles always shine brighter than just screen pairings.

Indian Tourists Drive Luxury Spending Boom in Singapore

Share

Indian tourists are playing an increasingly pivotal role in sustaining Singapore’s luxury retail sector, helping the city-state counter a broader global slowdown in premium consumption. Data from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) shows that Indian visitors spent SGD 812.17 million in the first half of 2025, marking a 4.4 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.

Industry representatives say this steady rise in spending has been instrumental in supporting Singapore’s high-end retail ecosystem, particularly along Orchard Road, the country’s premier shopping destination and home to many of the world’s leading luxury brands.

“Indian travellers continue to be one of the island’s most commercially significant markets and are among the tourists helping to lift luxury spending in Singapore,” said Mark Shaw, Chairman of the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA), which oversees and promotes the Orchard Road precinct.

Beyond headline figures, industry experts point to travel patterns that make Indian tourists especially valuable to retailers. According to Shaw, Indian visitors tend to stay longer and spend across a wider range of categories than many other traveller segments.

“Indian travellers have higher spending levels and longer-than-average lengths of stay at 6.3 days. These extended trips translate into greater discretionary spending across retail, dining, entertainment, attractions and accommodation,” he said.

Shaw’s remarks come amid increased footfall at Orchard Road’s Christmas Market and Village during the year-end festive season, a crucial period for luxury retailers. While Indian tourists have emerged as a key growth driver, industry observers note that visitors from China and Indonesia are also contributing to Singapore’s resilience against global luxury market headwinds.

The trend reflects broader changes in Indian consumer behaviour. The Mastercard Economics Institute’s 2024 Travel Trends report highlighted that India’s expanding affluent class is increasingly seeking luxury experiences, high-end fashion and jewellery, driven by rising disposable incomes and aspirational lifestyles.

Tourism data further underscores this shift. Indian visitor arrivals reached 1.03 million in the first ten months of 2025, up 2.6 per cent year-on-year, according to STB figures. Overall, Singapore recorded 14.25 million visitors between January and October 2025, representing a 2.5 per cent increase from the same period last year.

Singapore also stands out among global luxury hubs. Market research firm Euromonitor International expects the city-state to be among the few major destinations to register growth in luxury sales in 2025, projecting an increase of 7 to 9 per cent to approximately SGD 13.9 billion. This performance is expected to outpace other regional shopping destinations, including China and Japan.

The growth is being driven by affluent consumers seeking premium products, curated experiences and what analysts describe as “quiet luxury.” Singapore’s appeal is further bolstered by its growing wealth base, with the country home to 55 billionaires, according to a UBS wealth report released on December 4.

Capitalising on the surge in visitor activity, global luxury brands such as Prada and Van Cleef & Arpels have intensified their presence along Orchard Road’s hotel-shopping belt, deploying outdoor installations and festive displays to attract shoppers. A major draw remains ORBA’s annual Orchard Road Christmas Light-Up, consistently ranked among the world’s top five, featuring elaborate decorations, snowfall shows, markets, live entertainment and street festivities.

Global Talent Shift Accelerates as US Tightens H-1B Visa Rules

Share

The global competition for skilled professionals is entering a decisive phase, driven by sharply diverging immigration policies. While the United States is tightening entry routes through stricter screening and higher compliance requirements for H-1B visa applicants and their families, several destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East are positioning themselves as more predictable and talent-friendly alternatives.

According to Saurabh Arora, Founder and CEO of University Living, countries that clearly link education, employment, and long-term residency are gaining ground over traditional migration powerhouses.

Germany, for instance, is projected to face a shortage of up to seven million skilled workers by 2035. In response, the government has accelerated immigration reforms and expanded points-based pathways to attract global talent.

Ireland has also emerged as a major beneficiary of this shift. The country recorded 40,400 international students in the 2023–24 academic year, a 15% year-on-year increase. Indian students now form the largest cohort, with enrolments nearly doubling compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Asia and the Middle East are strengthening their appeal as well. Singapore’s foreign workforce reached a record 1.91 million within a population of 6.11 million, including more than 200,000 Employment Pass holders, highlighting sustained demand for high-skilled professionals.

In the UAE, expatriates account for approximately 88.5% of the population, and long-term residency uptake is accelerating. The number of Golden Visas nearly doubled from around 79,600 in 2022 to 158,000 in 2023, reflecting the growing appeal of stable, long-duration residency options.

“These destinations are winning because they offer what talent values most — predictable pathways that connect education, employment, and residency,” Arora said.

Traditional migration hubs such as Canada, Australia, and the UK remain influential. Canada admitted 471,550 new permanent residents in 2023 and aims to welcome around 550,000 annually by the mid-2020s. Australia’s international education sector generated AUD 50–51 billion in 2023–24, while the UK recorded £41.9 billion in economic benefits from international students in 2021–22. However, Arora noted that scale alone may no longer be the decisive factor.

US Tightening Reinforces Global Shift

Amid these global changes, recent immigration developments in the United States are further reshaping mobility preferences. From December 15, the US expanded enhanced screening measures for H-1B visa applicants and their H-4 dependents, introducing mandatory social media scrutiny.

Applicants for H-1B, H-4, F, M, and J non-immigrant visas are now required to keep all social media profiles publicly accessible to facilitate background checks. The US State Department reiterated that visa issuance remains discretionary and rooted in national security considerations.

“Every visa adjudication is a national security decision,” the department said, adding that authorities rely on “all available information” to identify applicants who may pose potential risks.

Rowdy Janardhana Teaser Set for December 18 Release

Share

Vijay Deverakonda is currently juggling two major projects—one with director Rahul Sankrityan and another with Ravi Kiran Kola. After completing Kingdom, Vijay began shooting Rahul Sankrityan’s Rayalaseema-based film (his 14th project). Soon after, he moved to the sets of Ravi Kiran Kola’s Rowdy Janardhana (his 15th film). Interestingly, the latter is progressing at a much faster pace.

Rowdy Janardhana, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Keerthy Suresh, and produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations, was officially launched in October. The team has been shooting continuously across Mumbai and Hyderabad. According to inside reports, the makers are preparing to release the film’s teaser on December 18. The title will be officially confirmed with the teaser, which will also serve as the first major glimpse of this action-drama.

The teaser launch is scheduled for December 18 at Prasads in Hyderabad, coinciding with producer Dil Raju’s 55th birthday. While Vijay is shooting both his upcoming films simultaneously, Rowdy Janardhana has been prioritized, as Rahul Sankrityan’s film requires extensive VFX work. From January onward, Vijay will dedicate four straight months exclusively to Rowdy Janardhana. The makers are targeting a Dussehra 2026 release.

Directed by Ravi Kiran Kola, the film features music by Malayalam composer Christo Xavier and cinematography by Anand C. Chandran. Once Rowdy Janardhana gears up for release, Vijay Deverakonda’s project with Rahul Sankrityan, produced by Mythri Movie Makers, will follow next.

Kavitha Confirms New Party Plans for 2029

Share

Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday confirmed that she plans to launch a new regional party in Telangana, positioning it as an alternative to the Congress, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Interacting with social media users for over an hour under the hashtag #AskKavitha on X, she addressed a wide range of questions about her political vision, Telangana Jagruti’s future, and what she called the failures of the Congress government.

Kavitha reiterated that building a “Social Telangana” remains her primary political mission. She made it clear that Telangana Jagruti will enter the electoral arena in 2029, ending speculation about her next steps. She added that the name of the new party would be finalised after taking suggestions from the public.

Focusing on empowerment, Kavitha said youth and women must be encouraged to pursue opportunities freely, and that her organisation would work to create meaningful political space for them. She stressed that true empowerment can be achieved only when every citizen has access to high-quality, free education and healthcare.

When asked to choose between jobs, skills and security, Kavitha said job creation for youth would be her highest priority, alongside ensuring their safety and long-term stability. She also announced that Telangana Jagruti will soon launch a membership drive, adding that its committees already reflect representation from all sections of society. The movement for social justice, she said, will continue with renewed energy.

On lighter questions, Kavitha described actor Ram Charan as a humble person and an excellent dancer, though she admitted she is primarily a fan of megastar Chiranjeevi. She also fondly recalled her childhood memories in Erramanzil as some of the happiest moments of her life.

Responding calmly to a suggestion that she should focus on business rather than politics, Kavitha advised people not to be swayed by negativity on social media and to maintain a positive outlook.

Akhanda 2 Box Office Performance Update

Share

Akhanda 2 has completed its initial days in theatres, giving the trade enough clarity on its overall performance. The film was sold at different rates across regions, and this uneven pricing has directly impacted recoveries. While the movie opened well in a few pockets, the general audience response has been mixed. Balakrishna’s strong fan base has supported the film, but outside this section, the reception has been moderate.

Ceeded and the Nellore–Guntur belt have shown better hold, with nearly half of the investment recovered during the opening weekend. Nizam has also seen partial recovery. However, Uttarandhra, East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts have not performed up to expectations, indicating weak momentum and likely losses in those territories. The overseas market has been the biggest disappointment, turning out to be a loss-making region for the film.

Overall, Akhanda 2 has performed decently in a few mass regions but has fallen short in many others. With mixed word-of-mouth and fluctuating occupancy, the movie is tracking as average in select areas while underperforming across several key territories.
