In Telangana, it is an age-old Dasara tradition for youngsters to visit the temple on Vijayadasami, worship the “Jammi” (Shami) tree, and return to their parents’ home to seek blessings. Sharing Jammi leaves, considered as precious as gold and silver, with family members, followed by a festive family dinner, is an integral part of the celebration.
On Thursday, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao, along with his wife Shailima and children, visited Erravelli farmhouse to seek blessings from his father, BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR). The gathering included other family members, including cousins and aunts. However, KCR’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha was notably absent.
Sources reveal that KCR reportedly rejected Kavitha’s request to visit the farmhouse and offer Jammi leaves to her parents. As a result, she remained at her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. The rift traces back to Kavitha’s growing dissent within the party, and she has reportedly been denied audience with KCR multiple times, including a recent attempt to meet him before her son left for higher studies in London.
Meanwhile, Kavitha is preparing to launch a new political initiative. On Dasara day, she announced the formation of a state committee for her organisation, Telangana Jagruthi, appointing senior Scheduled Tribe (ST) leader Lakavat Roop Singh as Working President. Kavitha highlighted that over 80% of positions in the state executive have been allocated to individuals from backward and marginalized communities, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to inclusive development and grassroots leadership.
She further stated that she will soon undertake a statewide tour, engaging with intellectuals, poets, artists, social workers, and experts across districts. Kavitha emphasized that the restructuring is a decisive step toward building a socially conscious and culturally vibrant Telangana, rather than a symbolic gesture.
