Spotify Unveils New Measures to Combat AI Misuse in Music

Share

Spotify has announced a comprehensive set of measures to address the growing misuse of generative AI on its platform, strengthening protections for artists and ensuring transparency for listeners.

The company revealed that it had already removed more than 75 million spam tracks in the past year and will now roll out stricter policies and new technologies to tackle challenges such as voice cloning, fraudulent uploads, and music spam.

Among the initiatives is a reinforced impersonation policy, which prohibits vocal deepfakes or unauthorized use of an artist’s voice without their explicit consent. Spotify is also collaborating with distributors to prevent fraudulent content from being linked to legitimate artist profiles and is expanding resources to resolve content mismatch cases.

To curb platform abuse, Spotify is preparing to launch a new music spam filter this autumn. The system will detect and reduce the visibility of accounts involved in bulk uploads, duplicates, artificially short tracks, and other exploitative tactics that threaten royalty distribution.

In parallel, Spotify will support a new industry-standard AI disclosure system developed by DDEX. This will allow labels and rights holders to specify how AI was used in creating a track—whether in vocals, instrumentation, or post-production—with disclosures displayed on the platform once submissions begin.

The company emphasized that these measures are designed to safeguard royalties, protect artist identities, and increase transparency, rather than penalize responsible AI use. To encourage widespread adoption, Spotify is partnering with leading distributors including DistroKid, CD Baby, Believe, EMPIRE, and FUGA.

While acknowledging that AI is reshaping music creation, Spotify stressed that its mission remains clear: to ensure fairness for artists and preserve listener trust, treating all music equally regardless of the tools used in its production.

Vinodhini Vaidynathan Mourns Karur Rally Tragedy, Appeals Against Politicisation

Share

Actress Vinodhini Vaidynathan, known for her work in Tamil cinema, expressed deep sorrow over the stampede at the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally organized by actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which claimed 39 lives. Having worked with Vijay in Jilla, Vinodhini took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her heartfelt condolences and reflect on the incident.

In her note, she reminisced about a personal encounter with Vijay during the Vikatan Awards for her performance in Aandavan Kattalai, highlighting the actor’s humility and warmth. She wrote, “So much love was showered upon him by the people of Tamil Nadu when he was only an actor. He was the undisputed leader of the film industry. Why oh why did he have to enter politics? My brother, I truly don’t know how you are going to handle this guilt. He’s an extremely nice person at heart.”

Vinodhini emphasized that her concern was for Vijay as a person rather than his political stance, urging the public to avoid politicizing the tragedy. “I have no comment on his political career or opinions since I don’t agree with most of the party ideologies. But as a person, knowing him to be mild-mannered, soft-spoken, and kind-hearted, I’m sure he is truly devastated by the deaths of so many innocent people. Please don’t politicize this situation. Let us mourn the deaths of these innocent souls in deep sorrow. Let us not be consumed by hate,” she wrote.

In a separate post, Vinodhini reflected on the intersection of cinema and politics in shaping public consciousness. She noted that the adoration for film stars often translates into political influence, but cautioned against conflating cinematic spectacle with governance. She wrote, “The fraternity has created a situation where cinema is inseparable from politics. The nature of our politics is as much an illusion as cinema. The photo shoots, promotional poses, superficial punch-dialogue style, and song-centric celebrations of achievements – it’s all just a patchwork of pastels.”

She concluded with a broader call for societal introspection, urging people to prioritize meaningful change and personal responsibility over celebrity worship: “We need to change for the next generation. Support the movies. But let’s keep the movie out of life. Look after your family. May the souls of those who died today rest in peace.”

Rishab Shetty’s much-anticipated film Kantara Chapter 1, the prequel to the blockbuster Kantara, is all set to hit cinemas this Dussehra. The film’s pre-release event in Hyderabad saw the presence of superstar NTR as the chief guest.

Expressing his gratitude, Rishab Shetty thanked the Telugu audience for their warm welcome, saying he felt “right at home.” He also extended his appreciation to NTR and requested the Telugu audience to support the film wholeheartedly.

Reflecting on his childhood, NTR shared nostalgic memories of his grandmother’s storytelling. “Back then, I used to wonder whether those stories were true, but I loved them. But never did I imagine that one day, a director would bring those very stories to life on the big screen. That director is none other than Rishab Shetty.”

NTR also lauded Rishab’s multifaceted talent, stating, “Rishab is a very rare breed of director and actor. I’ve always wondered whether the director in him dominates, or the actor. But it’s not just about the actor or the director; Rishab commands every aspect of the 24 crafts of filmmaking.”

In a touching moment, NTR thanked Rishab for accompanying him and his family and fulfilling his mother’s long-cherished wish of visiting the Udupi Krishna Temple. Concluding his speech, NTR confidently predicted massive blockbuster success for Kantara Chapter 1.

The Deadly Cost of Packed Political Rallies in India

Share

Artificially packed political rallies are a recurring strategy in Indian elections, often orchestrated by professional campaign managers to create the illusion of massive public support. Popularized by Prashant Kishor and his I-PAC team, this method involves organizing gatherings in narrow streets, capturing sweeping visuals with drones, and trending leaders on social media.

However, this engineered display of popularity comes at a deadly cost. Nearly two years ago, stampedes during Chandrababu Naidu’s campaign claimed lives, a tragedy repeated during actor Vijay’s campaign in Tamil Nadu, where over 36 people died. Despite these incidents, the practice persists in 2025, often fueled by monetary incentives rather than genuine public support.

Spending crores to stage-manage offline events while endangering lives is not just outdated—it is cruel. In an era of digital connectivity, these resources could be better used for online campaigns that reach millions safely.

Advanced democracies, such as the United States, conduct rallies in manageable venues and rely heavily on television, digital platforms, and data-driven outreach, minimizing the risk of crowd-related tragedies. Indian politics, however, continues to cling to theatrical displays that too often result in avoidable loss of life.

Thaman Clarifies Game Changer Comments, Praises Ram Charan’s Dance

Share

Renowned Telugu music composer Thaman, who has been juggling multiple projects this year, recently addressed speculation surrounding his comments on Ram Charan. Earlier, Thaman’s work in Game Changer, directed by Shankar, had generated significant anticipation. However, some fans felt the songs fell short of expectations.

After the film’s release, Thaman remarked that “without a proper hook step, it is hard for a song to become a hit today,” which some reports suggested was a critique of Ram Charan. Thaman has now clarified that his comments were directed at the choreography, not the actor.

Speaking to the media after the release of his latest film, They Call Him OG, Thaman stated that in the age of Instagram reels, strong hook steps are essential for songs to go viral. He cited hits like Premalo, Butta Bomma, Kavalavathi, and Laila O Laila as examples.

“Ram Charan is an amazing dancer. My problem was with the choreographers, not him. I composed Raa Macha for Charan, but the choreography did not match his talent, which disappointed fans. Ram Charan has always been supportive and appreciated my work in OG. Some people misrepresented my words,” Thaman explained.

He also revealed that the songs for Game Changer were composed in 2021 but were held back until 2024 without taking any profit. “Whatever I received from Dil Raju garu, I spent it all on the film,” he added.

Thaman’s latest soundtrack for They Call Him OG has been well received, reaffirming his reputation as one of Telugu cinema’s leading composers.

Kantara Chapter 1 Prepares for Grand Release Amid Ticket Price Hike Uncertainty

Share

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara emerged as a blockbuster in Kannada cinema, with its Telugu-dubbed version also achieving widespread success, bringing pan-Indian recognition to the actor-director. The film’s prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, is now set for a grand release on October 2, with a high-profile pre-release event scheduled for this evening.

Mythri Movie Makers, which acquired the film’s Nizam rights, is reportedly planning to seek approval for a ticket price hike in the Telugu states, leveraging the festive season and the strong buzz around the film. Given that the first installment resonated particularly well with rural audiences and family viewers, a higher ticket rate could prove profitable if approved.

However, the approval remains uncertain. Recently, when a ticket hike was granted for OG, the cinematography minister clarified that the government order (GO) had been passed without his knowledge and emphasized that there would be no further ticket price increases in Telangana, citing concerns about burdening citizens. The Telangana High Court has also stayed the order, adding to the complexity.

In light of this, industry experts suggest that promoting the film aggressively while keeping ticket prices reasonable may be the best approach, especially as attracting audiences to theatres has become increasingly challenging.

Notably, advance bookings for Kantara: Chapter 1 have already commenced worldwide, except in the Telugu states. The film’s pre-release event later today may provide further clarity on the ticket pricing and distribution strategy.
