Drishyam 3 Release in Doubt Amid Gulf Tensions

The release of Drishyam 3 is currently scheduled for April 2, but uncertainty looms over whether it will hit theatres as planned.
The Gulf market plays a crucial role in the success of Malayalam films, with a significant Malayali population contributing heavily to box office collections. This has been especially true for films starring Mohanlal, whose movies traditionally perform very well in the region.
However, ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States have raised concerns about the film’s release in the Gulf. These developments could potentially impact theatrical plans and overall box office prospects.
With more than two weeks remaining, the makers are reportedly evaluating their options and planning promotions accordingly, depending on how the situation unfolds.
Drishyam 3 is the sequel to Drishyam 2 and features a strong cast including Mohanlal, Meena, Esther Anil, and Ansiba Hassan. The film is directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor.
Given the franchise’s reputation for gripping storytelling, the film is expected to appeal not just to Malayalam audiences but also to viewers across languages, with subtitles helping it reach a wider audience.
LIK Faces Buzz Dip Ahead of Possible April 3 Release

Director Vignesh Shivan has once again stirred curiosity סביב his upcoming film Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), starring Pradeep Ranganathan. A recent Instagram story shared by the filmmaker has sparked speculation among fans that the film could finally be targeting an April 3 release.
If this hinted date turns out to be true, the team will have barely two weeks to generate buzz—an unusually tight timeline for a project that has already faced multiple delays. This has raised concerns in trade circles, especially given the current lack of strong promotional activity.
Adding to the pressure, the release window is expected to be somewhat crowded, with films like Biker and Rakasa also likely to arrive around the same time. While these may not be major box-office threats, they still contribute to competition for audience attention.
Another challenge for LIK is the noticeable dip in buzz. Despite Pradeep Ranganathan’s recent success streak, repeated postponements appear to have slowed audience excitement. The strong initial hype surrounding the film has gradually faded over time.
If April 3 is indeed the final release date, the makers will need to quickly rebuild momentum with impactful promotional content. Any further delay could deepen the setback, potentially affecting the film’s overall box-office prospects.
Trump Frustrated as Allies Refuse to Secure Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump expressed frustration with some long-standing allies over their reluctance to assist in securing the Strait of Hormuz. The UK, Japan, Australia, Canada, and Germany reportedly declined to send naval forces to the strategically vital waterway.
Speaking at a White House event in Washington, Trump said, “Some are very enthusiastic about it, and some aren’t. Some are countries that we’ve helped for many, many years. We’ve protected them from horrible outside sources, and they weren’t that enthusiastic. And the level of enthusiasm matters to me.” He had earlier demanded that China, France, Japan, South Korea, Britain, and other nations contribute naval forces to protect the strait, emphasizing that it is critical for their own energy supplies.
Global leaders, however, refused. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that Canada would not participate in the “offensive operations” of the US and Israel. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz cited the lack of a UN, EU, or NATO mandate and noted that Germany was not consulted before the conflict. The UK indicated it wanted to keep the strait open but was not ready to deploy Royal Navy destroyers. Australia said it would withstand the economic fallout but would not send ships, and Japan also declined the request.
Meanwhile, Chinese media outlet Global Times argued that sending warships into the Strait of Hormuz was not the solution, questioning whether Washington was attempting to “share responsibility” or merely “share the risk of a war it started and cannot finish.”
The ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran has now entered its third week, with the Strait of Hormuz—responsible for 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas—largely closed. The disruption has driven up global energy prices and fueled fears of rising inflation.
Apple AirPods Max 2 vs Sony WH-1000XM6: Premium Headphones Compared

On March 16, Apple launched its latest premium headphones, the AirPods Max 2, in India at Rs 67,900. The headphones come with several upgrades, but their high price raises questions about value, especially when competitors like the Sony WH-1000XM6 continue to offer strong performance at a lower cost. The AirPods Max 2 retains a similar design to its predecessor, featuring aluminium ear cups, a stainless steel headband frame, and a knit mesh canopy. It weighs 386 grams, making it heavier than the Sony WH-1000XM6, which comes in at 254 grams with a plastic body, metal hinges, and a vegan leather headband. The Sony headphones are foldable, making them more travel-friendly, while the AirPods Max 2 lacks a foldable design, which may make long-term use or travel less convenient. Control-wise, the Sony WH-1000XM6 features a touch sensor panel on the right ear cup for playback and volume, while the AirPods Max 2 uses a Digital Crown and a control button for volume adjustments.
In terms of sound, the AirPods Max 2 houses 40mm dynamic drivers and the new H2 chip, promising improved sound quality and offering 24-bit, 48kHz lossless audio over USB-C, though wireless Bluetooth playback is limited to AAC. Its Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is claimed to be 1.5x better than the previous generation, along with an Adaptive Audio feature that adjusts ANC and transparency modes automatically. The Sony WH-1000XM6 uses 30mm dynamic drivers with LDAC codec support for high-resolution wireless audio and also allows 3.5mm wired connection. Sony’s HD noise-cancelling processor QN3 provides deep isolation, and an Auto Ambient Sound Mode seamlessly switches between ANC and transparency modes. App-based equalizer settings allow a more personalized listening experience.
When it comes to battery life, the AirPods Max 2 offers up to 20 hours of playback with ANC on, while the Sony WH-1000XM6 delivers up to 30 hours with ANC on and 40 hours with ANC off. In India, the AirPods Max 2 is priced at Rs 67,900, while the Sony WH-1000XM6 costs Rs 49,990 and is often available at discounted rates online. Overall, while the AirPods Max 2 brings premium design and advanced features, the Sony WH-1000XM6 remains a strong value-for-money option for users who prioritize lighter weight, longer battery life, and high-resolution wireless audio.
OpenAI Shifts Focus to Coding and Enterprise Amid Anthropic Competition

Over the years, OpenAI has expanded its AI offerings across chat, images, video, search, and enterprise tools, positioning itself as an all-purpose AI company. However, the company is now shifting focus, prioritizing coding and business users.
According to a The Wall Street Journal report, OpenAI’s previous “do everything at once” strategy made it harder to compete and respond to rivals effectively. Top executives, including CEO Sam Altman and Chief Research Officer Mark Chen, are evaluating which areas to scale back.
The report notes that Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of applications, briefed employees about the upcoming changes during an all-hands meeting. Simo stated, “We cannot miss this moment because we are distracted by side quests. We really have to nail productivity in general and particularly productivity on the business front.”
The shift comes amid Anthropic’s rapid growth in AI-powered enterprise tools. Simo warned staff that Anthropic’s rise is a “wake-up call” and emphasized the need for OpenAI to regain its lead among developers and enterprise users, calling the situation a “code red.”
OpenAI is also scaling its enterprise products. In February, the company launched an updated Codex app and the GPT-5.4 model, which reportedly already has two million weekly active users, reinforcing its presence in the coding and enterprise AI market.
Dubai Economy Hits Rough Patch as Real Estate, Tourism, and Oil Prices Surge

Dubai’s economy is reportedly facing one of its toughest phases in recent years, with multiple key sectors showing signs of strain simultaneously.
The Dubai Real Estate Index has fallen nearly 35% in just two weeks, sparking concerns about market confidence. Major property developers, including Emaar and Aldar, have seen their stocks drop by around 40%, highlighting pressure on the emirate’s vital real estate sector.
Financial markets are also feeling the impact. UAE corporate bonds are among the worst-performing assets in emerging markets, reflecting growing investor caution.
Meanwhile, the hospitality sector is struggling, with luxury hotel occupancy reportedly dipping below 20% due to travel uncertainty. Tourism and aviation, two of Dubai’s strongest economic pillars, are facing turbulence as well, with major airlines cancelling flights and tens of thousands of tourism bookings reportedly withdrawn.
Adding to the pressure, oil prices have surged, with Brent crude touching $100, marking its biggest weekly jump since the COVID-19 period.

Man Arrested for Vulgar Comment on Renu Desai
The governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been consistently warning against social media abuse, especially vulgar and offensive comments targeting women and children. Authorities have made it clear that such behaviour will lead to strict legal action.
In line with these warnings, the Telangana Police have taken action against an individual for posting an inappropriate comment about Renu Desai on Instagram. According to reports, Kotipalli Venkanna, a security guard by profession, was arrested by the Hyderabad police after he allegedly posted a vulgar remark on a social media post related to the actress. He was reportedly active on Instagram and made the comment after coming across her post. Police quickly responded and took him into custody on charges related to online harassment.
This is not an isolated incident. Just a few days ago, another individual was arrested for posting offensive comments against Anasuya. These cases highlight that law enforcement agencies are taking social media misconduct seriously.
Despite repeated warnings from the authorities, some individuals continue to engage in inappropriate online behaviour. However, such swift actions by the police send a strong message that cyberbullying and vulgar comments will not be tolerated.
