Historically, animated films have struggled to find a mainstream audience in Indian cinema, often appealing only to niche viewers. Mahavatar Narsimha, the first installment of the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe initiated by Hombale Films and produced by Kleem Productions, is redefining the landscape for animated films at the Indian box office. The mythological animated feature has now entered its fourth week in theaters, drawing family audiences from both metro cities and tier-2 towns, with the Hindi version performing particularly well.

Speaking about the film’s success and the future of the franchise, director Ashwin Kumar said, “Pressure is there only if I don’t know what I’m doing. But I have clarity in my mind since I know the next seven films in the universe that I want to develop.” His detailed roadmap for the next seven titles promises continuity, production clarity, and a well-planned expansion of the Mahavatar universe.

Mahavatar Narsimha has already surpassed ₹200 crore nett in India, with a worldwide gross of around ₹260–270 crore. As it heads toward the ₹300 crore mark, the film’s strong box office performance is fueling ideas for extending the franchise beyond cinema, including publishing, interactive experiences, and more.

The planned Mahavatar Cinematic Universe will include: Mahavatar Parshuram (2027), Mahavatar Raghunandan (2029), Mahavatar Dwarkadhish (2031), Mahavatar Gokulananda (2033), and the two-part Mahavatar Kalki (2035 and 2037). This long-term vision showcases a structured approach to storytelling and franchise-building in Indian animation.

With Ashwin Kumar’s confident direction and a clearly defined franchise strategy, Mahavatar Narsimha is proving that Indian animated films can achieve blockbuster-level success. The series is poised to carve out a new space for animated cinema in India, encouraging greater investment in the genre and stronger audience engagement. Ashwin also confirmed that production for the next film, Mahavatar Parshuram, will begin this November.
