Struggling Director Buys Korean Film Rights For Next

Share

Some directors prove themselves huge with their debut films but later they fizz out as their movies fail at the box office back to back. After starting on a promising note with Swamy Rara movie, director Sudheer Varma too failed to excited audiences in the same way.

With his latest movie Ranarangam being a mega dud, the director actually started to check out where did it went wrong. After Swamy Rara, he has come up with Dochay, Kesava and Ranarangama, and these three films suffered from major story cliches. To correct that, Sudheer is not any more sitting and writing the story himself, but this time has decided to buy the rights of a Korean film.

Reports are coming that he has already acquired the rights of 2017 Korean action-comedy ‘Hanja’ which is dubbed into English as “Midnight Runners”. While the film’s leading scenes appear to be like Ram Charan’s Dhruva, rest of the story deals with two heroes chasing kidnappers of young girls who are being taken to a fertility centre for their eggs.

Rumour has that already Sudheer impressed a young hero with this story, and rather keep it as a two heroes movie, he has decided to make it a hero-heroine types of film. Hope he comes out of his struggles post this film.

Trade Market Still Believes In This Sr Hero

One of the talented senior heroes who are right now struggling to get things right is none other than Mass raja Raviteja. Though he is a proven man when it comes to churning out minimum guarantee movies at the box office, the senior star has been disappointing with his choice of movies.

However, we must say that trade circuits are still hopeful that Raviteja will pull off a great stunt with his latest movie Disco Raja. Despite the fact that his Nela Ticket flopped big time at the box office, distributors invested hugely on Amar Akbar Antony a year ago. But then, this film which got sold for 22 crores made only 6 crores ‘share’ from the box office, disappointing all the stakeholders.

But it seems like Amar Akbar Antony has no impact on the sales of Disco Raja which is hitting cinemas on January 24th. Due to its stunning teaser, impressive songs and terrific production values, distributors have bought the theatrical rights of this film for 22 crores. They are hoping that director VI Anand and Mass Raja will create a storm.

As the box office already witnessed stunners like Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo and Sarileru Neekevvaru this Sankranthi, it will be a bit tough for Raviteja to garner the attention amidst their aura. Terrific content and screenplay could however do the magic at the box office.

Three capitals Bill: Game of numbers!

It is nothing but natural in politics that when the ruling party tries to bulldoze its decisions, the opposition parties try to stall them by all means. It is all in the game.

That is what had happened in the Andhra Pradesh state legislative council on Tuesday night, when the Telugu Desam Party successfully stalled the passage of two crucial bills pertaining to the state capital.

On Monday night, the YSR Congress party government could easily get the two bills passed – one on repealing AP Capital Region Development Authority Act enacted in 2014 to develop Amaravati as the state capital and the second one on creation of three capitals as part of decentralised administration, in the state assembly by virtue of its brute majority and suspending the opposition members.

And it was the turn of the TDP to stall the bills in the legislative council on Tuesday, thanks to its majority, by invoking Rule 71 of the legislative proceedings which allows for a debate on disapproving the government bills. Despite the floor-crossing by two of its MLCs, the TDP won the debate with 27-13 majority over YSRC.

It was a temporary setback for the ruling party, no doubt, but it does not mean the TDP can stop the Jagan Mohan Reddy government from going ahead with its plan of creating three capitals and doing away with APCRDA.

Even if the legislative council rejects the bills, the ruling party would reintroduce them in the assembly and see that they are “deemed to have been passed.”

Even if the bills are sent to select committee, as per the TDP plan, it can only delay the process of capital shift and Jagan can still go ahead with his plan a couple of months later, if not immediately.

The pro-TDP Telugu dailies – Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy – tried to project as if it is a big victory for the TDP and a big shock to the YSRC government.

“Sarkaaruku Shock,” screamed the headline of Eenadu’s banner story which went on to explain how the TDP successfully thwarted the attempts of the YSRC to bulldoze the bills.

It also gave a big coverage of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu’s statement that the YSRC government had faced a moral and technical defeat in the legislative council.

Andhra Jyothy banner story said: “Mooduku Brake,” indicating that the TDP had applied brakes to the three capitals plan.

Sakshi, however, sought to project the TDP as a major villain the entire exercise. “Sasana Mandali lo TDP Saindhava Patra,” said its headline, explaining how the opposition party played the obstructive role in the Upper House in preventing the bills that had been passed by the house of people.

It also projected chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s strong attack on the TDP, saying the opposition party was displaying mindless stand and dirty politics.

Apart from highlighting the continued agitation by Amaravati farmers who had observed a shutdown in the capital region, the pro-TDP papers have also given huge coverage to “guest-artiste in politics” and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan’s speech at Mangalagiri, where he said he would not sleep till he pulls down the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

Interestingly, both these dailies competed with Sakshi in giving a big coverage to Jagan’s speech in the assembly on education reforms, Amma Vodi scheme, the new scheme of “Jagananna Goru Mudda” (mid-day meals scheme) and the proposed scheme of Jagananna Vidya Kanuka.

The only other major story that made it the headlines in the front pages of all the dailies was the Supreme Court’s ruling to the legislature speakers that they should take quick decisions on the disqualification petitions, instead of sitting on them for years together.

Trade: The AVPL Rampage Continues

Sankranthi Winner Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo shows no signs of slowing down even after the festival week. The Mega Blockbuster is running to packed houses even on week days leaving the trade pundits stunned.

It is all set a new record for Non-Baahubali movie in USA. Going by the current trending, AVPL has high chances to become the biggest Non-Baahubali hit ever.

Trade expected the film’s collections to drop after Sunday, but the film is showing no signs of wearing down as of now. It is still running in multiple theaters in many centers while Sarileru Neekevvaru slowed down after Sunday.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo is once again showing the power of a family entertainer released for Sankranthi festival.

When movies like Shatamanam Bhavati and F2 performed superbly for their range, AVPL is showing what a star studded film directed by a top billed director can do if packaged and promoted well.

Prabhas’s Next for Baahubali 2 Date?

Prabhas is going to miss a calendar year altogether with no releases in 2020. The star has just begun shooting for an untitled period romantic drama in the direction of upcoming filmmaker Radha Krishna Kumar. The film’s release date has been pushed to April 2021.

“We are planning to release the movie during summer holidays next year,” announced Krishnam Raju, Prabhas’s uncle.

Krishnam Raju is also co-producing the film. Interestingly, the story has been rewritten and now a role for Krishnam Raju has also been created.

With many changes happened about this project, the film’s release has been pushed to next year. April 28 is the date that is being considered as it has sentimental value. “Baahubali 2” was released on the same date in 2017.

Being made in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam languages, this period love story has Pooja Hegde as the heroine. About 20 massive sets are being created for this movie’s shooting.

Will Vijayashanthi Get More Films Now?

Although “Sarileru Neekevvaru” had raked in good moolah at the box-office thanks to Sankranthi holidays, none of the actors had earned any appreciation for their acting.Even the much-hyped Vijayashanti’s comeback has failed to create ripples in the industry.

The industry was keen on seeing her re-entry as many thought that she would get the name as Ramya Krishna won for “Baahubali” and Nadiya for “Attharintiki Daaredi” but Vijayashanti’s role of professor Bharathi is not that effective.

Known as the Lady Superstar in her heydays, Vijayashanthi took huge remuneration. She was the highest-paid actor in the film after Mahesh Babu.

It is doubtful that she would be flooded with many offers though Anil Ravipudi is planning to cast her in his “F3”.

Vijayashanthi’s comeback didn’t create much rage as it should have been.

First Look Posters: Venkatesh As Narappa

Share

Suresh Babu acquired the rights of Dhanush’s Asuran long back and decided to remake it with Venkatesh as lead. Though there were doubts initially if Venky would fit the role, but the first look pushes all the doubts aside.

The movie is titled Narappa and here is the first look poster with Venkatesh transforming completely into the role. Venkatesh is all in rugged with beardy face with almost the similar look of Dhanush from the original. The movie is set in 1980s and is based on caste disparities in rural areas. Dhanush excelled in the character and has set a benchmark for it.

Venkatesh, with his look scored big and Srikanth Addala too will be shocking us with the genre he never touched so far.
