Roundup: Media fighting for and against Amaravati!
For the last one week, anti-establishment media has been dishing out a series of stories on how Amaravati had been well-established as the capital of Andhra Pradesh in the last four years, how several buildings have come up, how administration has been running from there and how the land values in the area have gone up.
It started with Eenadu which has been publishing stories of colourful pictures of constructions that came up in Amaravati and within a couple of days, Andhra Jyothy picked up from there and carried a series of stories how all these high rise buildings constructed at huge cost would be abandoned once the capital is shifted to Visakhapatnam.
Apparently, YSR Congress party and its official mouthpiece Sakshi has realised that these reports in the rival media could damage the party’s image in the public and might create apprehensions among the people on the proposed capital shift plan of chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
There are also reports that Jagan had pulled up the Sakshi team for not being able to counter the stories of the rival papers. So, for the last couple of days, Sakshi, too, has started publishing stories against Amaravati.
On Monday, it has carried a banner story to project how Amaravati is prone to serious floods and in a worst-case scenario, 75 per cent of the capital region would get inundated in water.
As usual, both the anti-establishment dailies have continued to publish stories on the ongoing agitation by Amaravati farmers.
On Monday, the lead stories in Andhra Jyothy and Eenadu were on the visit of National Women’s Commission to enquire into the alleged highhanded behaviour of the police towards agitating womenfolk in Amaravati.
Both the dailies, however, carried the same report expressing dissatisfaction over the way the women’s commission conducted its hearing and how the affected women were not given a chance to present their woes before the members.
On the other hand, Sakshi carried a small counter report stating that the women constables had lodged a complaint with the women’s commission stating that they were beaten up by the agitators and not the other way.
The alleged attacks by the YSR Congress party workers on the Jana Sena Party activists at Kakinada at the behest of local MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy also made it to the headlines in Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy. Sakshi has completely ignored the same, at least on the front page.
Another interesting news that attracts the readers in all the three major Telugu dailies is the scheduled meeting of YSRC president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy with his Andhra Pradesh counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao at the latter’s camp office Pragati Bhavan in Hyderabad.
What the two chief ministers are going to talk at the meeting being held after a gap of nearly four months, is a matter of curiosity even for the national media.
The resignation of Tollywood villain-comedian Prithvi Raj from the post of Sri Venkateshwara Bhakthi Channel (SVBC) following the exposure of his alleged sexist conversation with one of the channel employees, is yet another news that attracted the readers of Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy. As expected, Sakshi ignored it.

LOSER is a sports drama which spans three stories in different timelines. It is a well stitched narrative which highlights the life an aspiring cricketer, badminton player, rifle shooter and their struggles.
Each of them is drawn to a sport but because of politics and difficult situations, they face a setback in their career. Produced by Annapurna Studios, directed by Abhilash Reddy the 10-episode series has a gripping narrative. Starring Priyadarshi, Shayaji Shinde, Sashank, Kalpika and the series is slated to release on ZEE5 in March.
Expiry Date, a bilingual series in Telugu and Hindi, is a crime thriller about a loving husband who mercilessly kills his wife for cheating on him.
Produced by Sharrath Marar under Northstar Entertainment banner, directed by Shankar Marthand and starring Sneha Ullal, Madhu Shalini, Tony Luke and Ali Reza in pivotal roles the series is scheduled to release on ZEE5 in June.
Amrutham Dvitheeyam is a sequel of one of the most popular shows on Telugu Television – AMRUTHAM which aired from 2001 – 2007.
The series is set to bring back most of the original star cast namely Harsha Vardhan, Sivannarayana, Vasu Inturi, and Joining the cast are L.B Sriram and Sathya Krishna will premiere as a fortnightly.
Written by Gangaraju Gunnam, directed by Sandeep Gunnam and produced by them together under Lightbox Media banner, the series will premiere on ZEE5 on UGADI, 25th March 2020.
Hats Off to Telugu People: Spent $3 Million in 2 Days
2020 began with a bang for the Telugu film industry. The US market which faced slump last year got reinvigorated thanks to the two biggies that released this Sankranthi season. Telugu film lovers have shown their power again.
The overall haul these two biggies have gained in the two days exhibit the power of the fans of our big stars and big directors.
Superstar Mahesh Babu’s fans and Allu Arjun’s fans and director Trivikram’s fans have come in droves to watch the Sankranthi entertainers – “Sarileru Neekevvaru” and “Ala Vaikunthapurramloo” as together these films have collected nearly $3 million in just two days. After a long time, the USA box-office for the Telugu films has seen such a josh.
But producers and distributors should not turn greedy. Both of them have almost killed the golden goose of the overseas market with their unrealistic approach.
Producers demanded huge money for the rights from distributors and the distributors, in turn, went hiking the ticket prices close to $30 per ticket (during premieres) and this made people skip the movies in the theaters. Instead, they looked towards Amazon Prime for the latest releases.
Now that the market has been revived, the producers should not turn greedy.
Women stage flash protest against CAA in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A flash protest by women against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) triggered mild tension in the Toli Chowki area here Sunday night.
Taking the police completely off-guard, few women began the protest under the Toli Chowki flyover on Sunday. Holding the national flag and raising slogans against the CAA, they squatted on the road.
The number of protestors swelled as more women and youth joined them. The youth were raising slogans like “Modi teri tanashahi, nai chalegi, nahi chalegi”, “Hum kiya mangen, Azadi” and “kaala kanoon wapas lo” ( Modi your dictatorship cannot run, We want freedom, Withdraw the black law).
The protest led to mild tension and disrupted traffic at the busy intersection.
When the police arrived on the scene and tried to forcibly remove them, the protesters demanded that they be allowed to peacefully continue their protest.
The protesters alleged that the police were curbing their democratic right by not allowing them to protest.
Senior police officials tried to persuade the women and youth to end the protest. The standoff continued till 3 a.m.
As the protesters refused to leave the place, police forcibly removed and shifted them to police vehicles. They were carried to Goshamahal and Golconda police stations.
A youth was injured in the scuffle with the police.
This was the second flash protest by women and youth from various organisations in three days.
Hundreds of people with national flags had staged protest in Mehdipatnam on the night of January 10.
AVPL Rampage, Adds Half a Million on Sunday
Allu Arjun and Trivikram’s “Ala Vaikunthapurramloo” is creating rampage at the USA box-office. The film has grossed more than half a million dollars on Sunday taking its total gross to nearly $1.37 million.
The film has now come close to the gross of Mahesh Babu’s “Sarileru Neekevvaru” which was released a day earlier.
The interesting point is that “Ala Vaikunthapurramloo” has achieved a bigger number with less number of screens. The film will be heading towards posting a bigger number in its lifetime gross.
With this film, Allu Arjun is all set to join the club of $2 million for the first time. Trivikram’s brand name, the great buzz around the film, overall good content, and the music have made the film such a huge success. Ultimately, well-packaged content always finds its audience.
On the other hand, “Sarileru Neekevvaru” has slowed down on Sunday. It has collected about 290k dollars on Sunday taking its total gross to $1.59 million.
Pawan’s Team Mounts Attack On Own Party MLA!
Power star and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan has finally realised that his party’s lone MLA Rapaka Vara Prasad is not going to sail with the party anymore and is moving towards YSR Congress party led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
While the entire party is opposing the shifting of capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam, Rapaka came out openly in support of the decision of Jagan Mohan Reddy. When the party is holding protests in Amaravati, Rapaka was nowhere to be seen.
A couple of days ago, when Pawan held a meeting of senior party leaders at the party office in Vijayawada, Rapaka was conspicuous by his absence and was seen moving with minister Kodali Nani in Gudivada.
When YSRC MLA from Kakinada Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy was using abusive language against Pawan, Rapaka did not utter a word condemning the same.
And when the Jana Sena Party activists were being beaten black and blue by the YSR Congress party activists in Kakinada town, Rapaka was nowhere to be seen.
Now, Pawan seems to have decided to mount moral pressure on Rapaka to quit the party on his own.
Jana Sena’s social media wing “Sataghni” has started attacking its own party MLA for keeping silent over the alleged unruly behaviour of Dwarampudi.
“When YSRC leaders are making vulgar and unparliamentary comments against the president of the party you are representing and indulging in rowdyism against Jana Sena leaders and cadre in your own district, don’t you have time even to respond them? For you, are bull races more important than party?” the social media post asked.
The Sathaghni activists reminded that when Rapaka was arrested and YSRC leaders tried to see that he did not get the bail in the past, Pawan had entered the scene directly and made them beat a retreat.
Allu Arjun’s Satire On Fake Collections
Sankranthi biggies have opened on a solid note and are poised to make the most of this festive season.Meanwhile, fake collection numbers are being circulated for both the movies for the sake of records.
An inside source informed that Allu Arjun told his producers to release ridiculous numbers for Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo to make a joke of the current scenario.
Releasing posters carrying ridiculously high numbers will stop everyone from publishing those fake numbers is what Bunny said in the success party of AVPL.
An official poster of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo first day numbers will be launched shortly and it is going to be a satire on the recent trend that has become a joke across the social media platforms.
A few innocent fans believe these numbers and waste lot of time arguing with other hero fans that make fun of these numbers.
Despite getting ridiculed time and again, a few stars are still faking numbers just for the sake of it.
Publishing unbeatable numbers on AVPL posters would at least put an end to this trend in the future is what Allu Arjun believes.
