Mahesh Babu Is Right: Allu Arjun
Even as there’s a strong clash between Allu Arjun and Mahesh Babu’s movies in theatres, Allu Arjun has been vocal about Mahesh Babu and his Sankranthi competition Sarileru Neekevvaru unlike Mahesh. In his latest media interaction too Allu Arjun is humble, down-to-earth and media-friendly. When said that what Mahesh said is rightneither refused to answer from commenting nor did he refrain.
Earlier day, Mahesh Babu in his interview said, “All the stars are facing a problem when it comes to doing any experiment or unique story since big budgets are at stake and trade is investing huge. We need to protect the interests of trade who are putting a lot of money and buying our films.” When asked Allu Arjun about the same, Allu Arjun too nodded and said, “It is correct.” He said that what Mahesh said is right. Allu Arjun took a step forward and explained why doing a small-budget and experiment film is not practically feasible for any star hero.
“After working hard for many years, all stars expand their market and come to the stage of big-budget stars whose market is Rs 100 Crore and above. There’s no point in going back to roots again and doing a small-budget film for Rs 10 Crore. Even if any star hero has to any experiment, it has to be on the large scale only. Doing at small-budget isn’t possible,” said Allu Arjun.
Allu Arjun said he is quite happy to team up with director Trivikram Srinivas again and hoping for a hat-trick. Bunny said the movie will be entertaining. He said he will be seen as an ordinary middle-class guy who works under his boss (Pooja Hegde). Allu Arjun assured that there is a strong father-son sentiment in the movie. Ala Vaikunthapurrammuloo’s result would be known tomorrow. Let’s wait and see.
Sankranthi Films Decide Anushka’s Movie Fate
Anushka Shetty starrer “Nishabdham” is scheduled for January 31 release but the team has suddenly stopped the promotions. The film might get postponed.
But the final call will be taken after seeing the results of Sankranthi biggies “Ala Vaikunthapurramloo” and “Sarileru Neekevvaru”.
If these two biggies click at the box-office, people would not show interest to watch movies in the last week of January as they would give a break.
So, the team of Anushka’s movie has suddenly put the breaks to promotions. Anushka has wrapped up her work for the movie. Unless she begins the promotions, the film will not get hype and buzz in the trade circles.
This woman-centric thriller has Anushka playing a mute girl. She doesn’t speak in the film at all.
Produced by People Media Factory and Kona Film Corporation, the film also has Madhavan, Anjali, Shalini Pandey and it is planned to release in multiple languages.
Sarileru Neekevvaru Review: Mass Block
Ever since the title of “Sarileru Neekevvaru” starring Mahesh Babu was announced, the film had generated huge expectations.
With Anil Ravipudi, a director who has a 100 percent success rate, helming the project, the trade has also placed its bets high on this movie.
The trailer was a roaring success and the bookings have been terrific. Produced by AK Entertainments, the film is here.
Let’s find out its merits and demerits.
Story:
Major Ajay Krishna (Mahesh Babu) who is stationed in Kashmir army base leaves for Kurnool to inform professor Bharati (Vijayashanti) that her son Ajay (Satyadev) is battling for life after getting severely injured in an operation.
During his train journey, he meets a girl Sankruthi (Rashmika). Once he lands in Kurnool, he comes to know that Bharati lost her job and is hiding in a faraway place when a politician threatened her.
How Ajay Krishna takes up her battle as his and what is the issues she is facing is the rest of the drama.
Artistes’ Performances:
Mahesh Babu who is known for subtle performance has come up with a hyper act. This is a typical mass role and he’s given his best. His comedy timing is excellent, his dances in ‘Mind Block’ are also a feast to his fans. However, this is less about performance, more about playing to the gallery. His constant loud talking and speeches also irritate sometimes but this is an intentional act. Also, essaying the role of an army major is first for Mahesh Babu.
Vijayashanthi in her comeback has carried the role of professor Bharathi in a subtlety and dignified manner. She is the emotional anchor of the film and her star status has added value to the character.
Rashmika in her first pairing with a superstar is chirpy but she has not much of role.
Prakash Raj as a villain is okay. Bandla Ganesh is wasted. Sangeetha, Rao Ramesh, and other actors have gone overboard.
Technical Excellence:
Although the film was completed in just five and a half months, the production values are rich and the canvas is big. The art direction by AS Prakash is terrific. Kurnool’s famous Kondareddy Buruju’s set is recreated realistically.
Rathnavelu has left his mark in the visuals department. Devi Sri Prasad’s songs have failed to hit the chartbusters but they are good on the screen.
“Mind Block” and ‘Suryudivo” have made an impact on the screen.
Highlights:
Mahesh Babu’s mass avatar
Interval bang
Emotions between Mahesh and Vijayshanthi
Drawback:
Train comedy
Formulaic moments
Weak climax
Analysis
Twenty minutes into the film, one thing that comes to our mind that director Anil Ravipud is playing a safe game. A very safe game! He has not unleashed an unabashed fun quotient as he did in his previous “F2”, nor has he presented something new.
He wanted to present Mahesh Babu in a mass avatar, as the star has been staying away from such attempts of late. To elevate Mahesh Babu’s heroism and mass-angle, he has added sequence by sequence, some of them have worked quite well, some don’t.
But mostly, he has taken enough care that Mahesh Babu’s core audiences get entertained.
“Sarileru Neekevvaru” gets a shaky start. After establishing the characters of Vijayashanthi and Mahesh Babu, the Kashmir army sequences continue for 15 minutes with no effectiveness and then the film cuts to a prolonged train journey episode which lasts about nearly 30 minutes.
While one or two scenes in this lengthy portion have generated laughter but it is stretched beyond a point. Even the so-called catchphrases like ‘Never Before Ever After’ and ‘Meeku Artham Avuthonda” have failed to make any impact.
The introduction of Bandla Ganesh has further aggravated the boredom. But thankfully, the film comes into the groove soon after this comedy portion ends.
Mahesh Babu’s first meeting Vijayashanthi at Kurnool buruju and the subsequent action episode have elevated the movie. The film’s interval bang is another major highlight.
The director has succeeded further in the sequences of Vijayashanthi and Mahesh Babu post-interval. The scene where Mahesh Babu trying to inform the bad news to her and she responding emotionally is captured so brilliantly.
The emotional core has yielded an effective result.
The second half also has ‘Mind Block’ song that will appeal to Mahesh Babu’s fans. But Anil Ravipudi has lost the grip thereafter.
The conclusion that the director has given to Prakash Raj’s character the director was in a hurry to wrap it up. He should have worked more on the writing-table. Mahesh Babu’s speeches, in the end, are cringeworthy.
Despite the familiarity and the routine screenplay, the film gets Mahesh Babu’s mass avatar right, it also provides some engaging and entertaining episodes and provides a feast to the fans.
Overall, “Sarileru Neekevvaru” is a mixed bag, where Mahesh Babu excels in his mass appeal but the rest is quite old-fashioned and routine.
Bottom-line: Seen Before
Sarileru Neekevvaru US Premieres: Half Million & Counting
US Premieres: Sarileru Neekevvaru Collects Half Million
Sarileru Neekevvaru is enjoying the release with full potential and maximum theatres in both the Telugu states with premieres from midnight. Not just that, Mahesh Babu seems to be showing his power also at his forte, US Box office.
Sarileru Neekevvaru already registered a half million with the US premieres collections and the number is on the rise. It registered $547286 in 252 locations by 5PM PST.
The US premiere collections so far already put Sarileru Neekevvaru in the top 15 -highest-grossing films and it is expected to collect 750 – 800K from premieres.
The movie is expected to be a mass entertainer with songs, lots of Ravipudi’s signature style comedy episodes and of course some slick action scenes. The talk will be coming out in some time as the first show in AP is already done with.
Mindblock: Rashmika’s Exposing, Babu’s Dancing
Mindblocking it is. The mass song from Sarileru Neekevvaru turned an instant hit and is ruling the chartbusters all over. With the movie release, Mindblock song will be going to many levels up and is going to be the biggest treat for mass-audience.
Though the song goes like Rashmika’s flirting with Mahesh’s mindblocking mass look, it is actually Rashmika’s hot look and skin show along with Mahesh Babu’s gracefull dance moves and ofcourse his mass look that blocks our mind.
Rashmika has done bold lip locks earlier, but Mindblock will be the first for her with extreme mass beat and also being extra hot. Just like Pakka Local song turned a hit before the release and how it became the favourite of mass-lovers with Kajal’s hot dances, Mindblock is going to be heard everywhere from now.
Roundup: Now, counter rallies for decentralisation!
With the agitation of Amaravati farmers in protest against the proposed shifting of administrative capital to Visakhapatnam gaining momentum, counter-rallies in support of decentralised administration have started in different parts of Andhra Pradesh.
It was obvious that these counter-rallies are being engineered by the YSR Congress party to turn the tables on the Telugu Desam Party which is spearheading the pro-Amaravati rallies.
In Visakhapatnam, minister Avanti Srinivas has led a big rally of party workers in Madhuravada and Kancherapalem areas. In Vizianagaram, too, the local YSRC leaders held a huge rally.
Obviously, the YSRC’s strategy is to send the message that the people of the state are by and large welcoming the decision of the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government.
Their objective is to project the agitation by Amaravati farmers as that of a particular community represented by TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu only to protect their real estate interests.
Since these rallies are being held by the ruling party, they naturally have the backing of the local police, unlike the rallies in Amaravati where the police denying permission to the protestors.
One does not know where these rallies and counter-rallies lead to, but it has certainly led to some kind of uneasy atmosphere in the state.
Obviously, Sakshi daily has carried a banner story on these counter-agitations. The story has sought to create an impression that except a few sections of people in Amaravati, the entire state is in favour of decentralised administration.
It says there have bene huge rallies all over the state by students and people’s organisations in favour of decentralisation and that they are angry with Chandrababu Naidu.
The daily has also carried the statement of the ministers constituting the high-power committee that the state government was looking at the all-round development of 13 districts and that they were working out an action plan for Amaravati as well.
On the other hand, the rival papers, Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy have taken a completely opposite stand and played up the intensified agitation of the Amaravati farmers.
Their banner stories are about the alleged high-handed behaviour of the police towards women of Amaravati, who were trying to go in procession to Kanaka Durga temple to represent their grievances to the Goddess.
Both the newspapers also gave a big coverage to Chandrababu Naidu’s rally in Eluru and Rajahmundry, where he sought to know whether the people of Visakhapatnam had ever demanded setting up of capital city there.
He asserted that the people of Visakhapatnam would never like to take away the livelihood of the farmers of Amaravati.
The personal appearance of Jagan in the CBI court in Hyderabad in connection with the quid pro quo case was also the prime news for Eenadu and Andhra Jyothy for obvious reasons. Sakshi conveniently ignored the same.
So is the report on Supreme Court’s judgement with regard to indiscrimination imposition of Section 144 by the governments without any compelling reason and that it would be subject to judicial scrutiny.
The appointment of four more judges for Andhra Pradesh high court was also given prominent coverage in the dailies.
Chiranjeevi References In Ala: Allu Arjun

Stylish Star Allu Arjun after some gap is coming up with Ala Vaikunthapurramloo as his third film in combination with director Trivikram Srinivas.
Sharing his views, Bunny said, “We learn many good things when we take a gap. What I learnt was never to take such huge gap.”
How different is this film from ones in your previous combination.
“Julaayi was a complete entertainer. Then our second film S/O Satyamurthy was more of emotional drama. I did serious films in recent times. Trivikram also did a serious film Aravindha Sametha. So, we thought of doing a wholesome family entertainer.”
Before beginning of the project, there were reports of this film will be remake of Hindi hit Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.
“The proposal was there from Geetha Arts. But, when Trivikram narrated Ala Vaikunthapurramloo story, we thought, this is better choice among the two.”
Bunny and Trivikam share good rapport with each other which is why they in short span have done three films together.
“Some filmmakers use your strengths. Some filmmakers give you new strengths. Trivikram falls in second category. He makes us understand ourselves. The journey with him brings change in personal front as well.”
Unlike routine promotions, songs were released too early, but the strategy worked wonders for the film.
“It was actually my idea which is adopted from Bollywood. In fact, the reach will be huge, if we release songs one after the other before the film’s release.”
Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru and few other films in Sankranthi race. Will it affect the revenues of all the films releasing for the festival.
“Producers wish for a solo release. But, the advantage of releasing for Sankranthi is 20 to 30% high revenues, irrespective of competition.”
Bunny also informed that Megastar Chiranjeevi will watch Ala Vaikunthapurramloo on 12th.
“He asked us to load the film to watch on 12th. There are some surprises in store for you. The film will have references of Chiranjeevi.”
Bunny said that he has no qualms of doing multi-starrers and Pan India films. He also clarified that his film Icon with Venu Sriram is very much on but it will go on sets after he wraps up his film with Sukumar.
Tweet Review: ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’, first day, first show

Mahesh Babu’s last genuinely successful film was Srimanthudu that has created Non-Baahubali records at the box office.
He scored a ‘hit’ with Bharat Ane Nenu that barely broke even and his Maharshi too wasn’t a clean hit despite becoming the highest grossing film in Superstar’s career.
Fans pinned a lot of hopes on Sarileru Neekevvaru to help Mahesh reclaim the box office throne.
Megastar and his son are currently in hold of Non-Baahubali records and Mahesh cannot get a better film to set the records straight.

Charmi – The new Sivagami of Puri compound!
Heroine turned producer Charmee Kaur is becoming the new powerhouse in the Puri compound. After seeing superior stardom as an actress in the industry, she turned herself into a producer and joined hands with dashing director Puri Jagannadh.
After facing some initial setbacks, she scored her first blockbuster as a producer with ‘Ismart Shankar’. The film brought them a lot of profits and Charmee is trying to continue this hit run in the coming days too. Though their business is named as ‘Puri Talkies’ and ‘Puri Connects’, it is Charmee who reportedly handles every single thing in the office.
From what we heard, she is also trying to stop the ongoing monopoly by going against it from now on. She kept aside all the big names and gave the Nizam rights of ‘Ismart Shankar’ to new people. She is reportedly hoping to continue in the same way in the coming days too. She is currently bankrolling a film with Akash Puri titled ‘Romantic’ and the prestigious project of Puri Jagannadh and Vijay Devarakonda. If they succeed, we may see a big women producer in Tollywood.
