S.Jaipal Reddy: The eternal spokesperson of politics
From a student leader who rose from Andhra Pradesh’s Osmania University, Jaipal Reddy made his own mark in the national politics. He took on former prime minister Indira Gandhi in then Andhra Pradesh’s Medak constituency in the 1980 Lok Sabha polls after quitting the Congress protesting against Emergency.
Despite losing, Reddy established himself as a gritty, uncompromising politician who never allowed his affliction with polio to affect him.
He was one of the main voices in the opposition when the Congress swept the 1984 Lok Sabha elections and was general secretary of the Janata Party.
Reddy took on the Congress governments firing salvos at corruption scandals. He represented Mahbubnagar in 1984 and later got elected from Miryalguda (1999 and 2004) and Chevella in 2009.
He emerged as one of the main architects of the coalition politics and played a crucial part in the formation of United Front government and also become a minister in the Inder Kumar Gujral’s cabinet.
His oratory skills earned him the best Parliamentarian award in 1998 and he became a well-known face being a spokesperson of the parties he represented including the United Front.
His political life took another turn when he returned to the Congress and became Union minister in Dr. Manmohan Singh’s cabinet in 2004.
He handled ministries of Information and Broadcasting, Urban Development and Culture. In the second stint of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, his removal from the petroleum ministry stirred a political storm as he was shifted to ministry of science and technology and earth sciences.
He retreated from the national political scene after the Congress was wiped out in 2014.
Reddy himself lost from Mahbubnagar, and confined himself to Telangana politics but could not revive the Congress’ fortunes in the state.
The Congress lost the Telangana Assembly elections, which was a personal setback for Reddy. His close relative Revanth Reddy, who was the working president of state Congress Committee, could not win his own seat.
Many Congress leaders deserted the party and blamed Reddy for his style of functioning. Reddy’s critics often felt that despite being a prominent and articulate voice in New Delhi’s political corridors, he was never at ease in state politics despite a prolonged career.
O Saki Saki Beats Saaho Song!
Saaho’s first single Psycho Saiyaan is one of the most popular songs of recent times. The Hindi version of Saaho has clocked nearly 45 Million views till now.
However, it has failed to beat the O Saki Saki song from Batla House featuring Nora Fatehi.
O Saki Saki video song was launched six days after Saaho’s song, but it has already surpassed 70 Million views mark on YouTube.
Nora Fatehi’s Dilbar song from John Abraham’s Satyamev Jayate was a huge hit. It has over 500 Million views on YouTube.
Nora and John have done it again with O Saki Saki which is an instant chartbuster. These two films were supposed to clash on the Independence Day, but Saaho was pushed to August 30 due to the delay in post production.
Saaho would have faced stiff competition from Batla House and Mission Mangal if it wasn’t postponed.
TRS, the biggest regional party in India!
If the claims being made by the leaders of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana, the party is the largest in the entire country in terms of its membership strength.
According to sources, the TRS has set a record of sorts with over 60 lakh members getting registered within 30 days, the highest for any regional party in the country.
The membership details are being consolidated and will be handed over to the party leadership before July 30.
The data pertaining to more than 40 lakh members has already reached the party headquarters while the digitalisation of the data of more than 20 lakh members completed.
The party general secretary and Government Whip Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said exact numbers could be ascertained only after the consolidated data was digitalised.
The TRS collected a whopping Rs 15 crore through membership fee alone, indicating the growing popularity of the party among people of the State.
Going by the statistics, the TRS membership is nearly one-fifth of the total number of voters in Telangana – 2.95 crore as per the latest enrolment with the Election Commission.
Assuming that all the 60 lakh members manage to get four votes each for the TRS, it would get 2.40 crore votes.
If the percentage of voting in the elections is 75 per cent, it would mean all the votes that will be polled in the next elections will go to the TRS and the BJP, Congress and other parties will not get even a single vote!
In more than 20 Assembly constituencies, the TRS surpassed 50,000 mark, while another 10 segments received more than 60,000 registrations. Gajwel and Palakurthy constituencies have seen more than 70,000 enrolments.
“People showcased their love for Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao during a series of elections since December last. They showered their love and affection towards him yet again by enrolling themselves as TRS activists,” TRS working president K T Rama Rao said.
PVP takes pot shots at twitter bird Nani!
Senior Telugu Desam Party leader and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas alias Nani has been embarrassing his own party leaders including party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu through his controversial comments on social media platform Twitter for the last few weeks.
But there is one person who has launched a counter-attack on Kesineni using the same social media platform. He is YSR Congress party leader and industrialist Potluri Vara Prasad, better known as PVP.
Irrespective of whether Kesineni tweets about YSRC or chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy or for that matter any other party or leader, PVP is coming out with a strong retort, pushing the MP to corner.
For the last few days, former employees of Kesineni Travels promoted by Kesineni have been staging dharna in front of his office demanding payment of wage arrears pending for the last three years.
The Vijayawada MP clarified to the media that he had no dues to be paid to any employee and if anybody comes with proper evidences, he was ready to pay them.
But the employees have not stopped the agitation and it took a serious turn with the entry of Communist Party of India (CPI) workers in the stir.
This has angered Kesineni, who tweeted that the Communist parties which had glorious history had been facing extinction only because they had become hired parties.
Within no time, PVP gave a strong retort to Kesineni: “I am also feeling the same anguish, my friend! How our “Red Brothers,” who had the capacity to challenge the might of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, had been stooped down to fight with a “kaun kiska gaadu” (insignificant fellow) who has glorious history of looting the people.”
This has led to the twitter war between followers of Kesineni and PVP, making the battle all the more interesting!
