#SyeRaa: Costly mistake behind ‘Mega’ failure

To carve a film of such stature, structure and star cast, one needs to pour humongous budgets and that is what Ram Charan has done for Sye Raa. But to take the very same film to the audiences, maybe they need to spend more time than money, over promotions.

The biggest and grave mistake committed by Megastar Chiranjeevi and his son Ram Charan regarding Sye Raa is that they have calculated North India box office as the way they look at Telugu states. Here in AP and Telangana, one pre-release event and a couple of posters on the walls will do for superstars to bring huge footfalls to theatres.

But up north, we are relatively new faces, and that is the reason Prabhas toured almost 25 cities in 10 days to promote Saaho despite the fact that he has huge craze engulfing him after Baahubbali franchisee’s success.

Paying no heed to such demands, Chiru failed to promote the film big time in Bollywood. Other than giving a couple of interviews, he has neither toured any city up north nor took part in any leading TV shows or tried to interact with media folks there. Perhaps that is the reason why Sye Raa made only 2.5+ crores nett on its Day 1 from Bollywood box office.

This is a costly mistake committed by Charan and Chiru together after making a film with 280 crores budget. They should have emulated the Bollywood promotion model to reap more benefits, but going by the current rate at which the film is churning out from Hindi box office, it’s not that great.

As the costume designer of ‘Sye Raa’ happens to be Sushmitha Konidela, definitely her megastar father would put in great words for the creative brilliance she has shown. However, Megastar Chiranjeevi is a man known for crediting all the right and deserving persons, even though if his family is in between.

In almost every single media meet, interview and also other day’s success meet, Chiru praised his daughter Sushmita but he never forgot mentioning about other two fashion backbones of the film. He says that Uthara Menon took care of the styling of all other characters in the film except him and heroines, while compliments Anju Modi for giving best designs for the characters in Sye Raa.

One could highlight his daughter and forget others, but Chiru is making sure that he will give credit to the other two women as well, while he appreciates Sushmita all the way. On the other hand, Chiru says, “Though Sushmita is the daughter of a megastar and sister of a superstar (Charan), she even adjusted chappals of the actors when it comes to handling costume design. That’s her hard work and it got reflected in Sye Raa”.

Having scored a hit with ‘Rakshasudu’ recently, hero Bellamkonda heard many scripts but did not like any. Finally, it was Santosh Srinivas who managed to get a nod from the hero.

Saaho, Sye Raa And That Black Panther!

Sometimes, almost all the directors of a particular era follow a particular style of presenting things. But these days every director wants to showcase some difference. Yet, we find some things similar and that is what happened with Saaho and Sye Raa right now.

Magnum opus Sye Raa has this British officer (a villain) who gets his black panther (the black coloured leopard) to India through the ship and feeds it with meat. Whether Britishers really got such dangerous wild animals shipped to India or not is another thing, but the very same panther was recently seen in another big-budgeted bonanza.

Even in Saaho, when Prabhas turns up for the first fight at a slum-like apartment complex in Mumbai, he finds a similar panther in the room. Back to back in two films, we wonder why these black panthers are coming as they don’t have any significance to the story or those particular scenes.

On one side it looks like a black panther fetish, but on the other side a VFX company might be selling their CG panther to Telugu filmmakers. Remember that big snake created by a Chennai based VFX company used to appear in most of the films in the early 2000s?

Jagan Paying Excess To KCR. Why?

Unleashing an all-round attack on Jagan administration, former CM and Opposition Leader Naidu has lamented Jagan of taking poor decisions and causing huge loss to public exchequer and state. Raising the issue of Power Purchase, Naidu lashed Jagan for ending up paying more for purchasing power.

“After doing hungama and a lot of negative propaganda on Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Jagan administration has finally bought the thermal power at Rs 11.68 per unit even when Solar Power and Wind Power is being sold at Rs 3 per unit and Rs 4.84 per unit respectively. What is this?,” Chandrababu shot at Jagan.

Naidu didn’t stop there. He alleged that Jagan bought coal from Telangana at higher cost even when it is available at lesser cost from Odisha. Naidu went onto question Jagan for favouring Telangana government at the cost of AP. “When coal is available at Rs 1600 per tonne at Mahanadi Coal Mines of Odisha, why Jagan has purchased Coal from Singareni at a price of Rs 3700 per tonne. How should one understand this?”

Chandrababu lamented Jagan for lacking vision. “As a precaution, coal reserves should be kept in abundant. Unfortunately, Jagan administration doesn’t have such basic understanding. Without having any alternative action plan in place, Jagan has pushed the people and state into darkness. Finally, he ended up burdening the state further. At least now, the state government should learn from its mistakes and ensure such won’t be repeated in future.”

‘Jagan, Where Is Pink Diamond?’

In a sensational accusation, Chandrababu Naidu has questioned AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over his religious belief and asked whether AP CM has made any declaration at Tirumala, Lord Balaji’s temple, before offering Silk Robes to Srivaru as part of custom and tradition followed before Brahmotsavam celebrations.

Stating that people of other faith would make the declaration at Tirumala as per norms, Naidu said even the likes of Abdul Kalam had made the declaration and such practice is followed as a mandate. He asked whether Jagan has made any such declaration.

Naidu alleged that Jagan hasn’t made any such declaration before offering Silk Robes to Deity and questioned how Jagan was allowed without making any declaration. Naidu fired on officials for not following rules.

Where Is Pink Diamond?

Raising the issue of ‘missing’ Pink Diamond of Lord Balaji, Naidu said where is the Pink Diamond now. He recalled that earlier Dharma Reddy and YCP leaders had alleged that ‘missing’ Pink Diamond is in Naidu’s house. Chandrababu now pointed out that TTD’s Special Officer Dharma Reddy is now denying the Pink Diamond.

Chandrababu demanded an answer from the government over Pink Diamond. Lamenting officials and police personnel to not over act and asked them to follow rules and norms. He said YCP government is not permanent. He recalled how several officials have been to jail earlier. He asked government officials to not spoil their career and life for short gains.

He recalled how TDP had put its own leaders behind the bars in the past to establish law and order and thus to safeguard peace and harmony. Cautioning officials, Naidu said that no one who has done mistake would be spared and no one could escape from law. He reiterated that police officials and government officials to follow the law.

War Movie Review

Handsome hunk Hrithik Roshan is back to Dhoom 2 mode after a very long time. His de-glam characters in Kaabil and Super 30 really didn’t do justice to his inbuilt swag and Greek God like looks. So, War is a must see for Hrithik fans who would love to see him walk in slow motion like a Swag Sultan. If the style, swag and handsomeness of Hrithik is not enough then there is Tiger Shroff who is equally well built and stylish looking as the former. War is not a film that boasts of great storytelling or likeable characters. It is all about weaving a decently engrossing action drama that fits in the action heroes Hrithik and Tiger and it does that, well, almost. War offers an action spectacle and a thrill ride that is expected out of it. Hrithik and Tiger are pretty much aware that they have to pull this half-baked story along and they are successful in doing so.

Kabir (Hrithik) an ex RAW agent has gone rogue and a young agent Khalid (Tiger Shroff) has been assigned the job to stop Kabir and bring him to justice. The storyline is very simple and the writers rely upon a screenplay that has more twists and turns than a slide at Center Parcs. First half of War is dedicated to showing off the swag of its leading men. Both Tiger and Hrithik gets a lengthy opening sequence each that will leave their fans awestruck. Director Siddharth is aware of the fact that War will survive only because of its leading men and he simply forgets about the story for a while and focuses on giving proper buildup shots to both of them. Although Tiger makes an impression he pales in comparison with Hrithik who just steals the thunder in every frame that he is in.

War has lots of action right from the word go. There is no shortage of it as Hrithik and Tiger keep on fighting with hundreds of men both with guns and bare hands. There is no space for songs in this film, but the director takes the liberty of squeezing in a dance number so that Hrithik and Tiger could shake a leg together. The song placement looks very odd, but who would complain when two of the greatest dancers of our times are rocking the dance floor? First half is breezy despite the story not moving forward. Fans of Hrithik and Tiger would be more than happy gawking at their sheer handsomeness and the testosterone loaded action scenes.

Second half needed a bit more focus on the plot as the director couldn’t rely anymore on slow motion shots of Hrithik and Tiger walking around. Second half opens with a flashback showing the reason for why Kabir has gone rogue. This episode is in stark contrast to the visuals in the first half that it will take a while for us to realize that the commercial break is over and the movie has begun again. A song on Hrithik and bikini clad Vaani Kapoor comes before the War gets started all over again. Now Kabir comes to know about the biggest terrorist operation planned against India and he has to find all the men who are behind it. A big twist comes right at the point where the action is becoming too predictable leading to the climax.

Final duel scene is an exhibition of brawn with the two leading men taking on each other punch for punch. It drags on and on and takes a while to tie all the loose ends before the end titles roll on. War ends hinting at a sequel and it looks like Yash Raj Films is up for another action franchise. War imitates the style of Hollywood action franchise Mission Impossible and Bourne series with the leading men fighting on bikes, cars, planes, icy terrains and what not? We get to see slick foreign locations and adrenaline pumping chase sequences besides the masala. The film is technically brilliant in every aspect, but the stunt directors should get most of the credit. On a whole, War is a perfect pop corn action flick that is bound to set the box office on fire. There is nothing that you could take home from it, but it is one hell of an action ride while it lasts.

Big blow to Jana Sena, Akula quits

In a big blow to Jana Sena party, one more senior leader has resigned to the party. He is Akula Satyanarayana who has very close association with party president Pawan Kalyan.

Akula had joined Jana Sena just before the general elections from BJP. He contested for the Rajahmundry Lok Sabha seat and lost to YSRCP’s Marganti Bharat Ram by a huge majority.

In 2014, Akula contested for the assembly on behalf of BJP and won from Rajahmundry city constituency. With BJP snubbing ‘special status,’ Akula joined Jana Sena and he was given good importance in the party.

But things are not well in Jana Sena in recent times. The other day, senior leader and government programs monitoring chairman Chintala Parthasarathy has quit the party and now with Akula’s exit, Jana Sena is losing prominent leaders.

During these crisis times, Pawan Kalyan needs to step in and give an assurance to the party leaders and cadre about the future. We shall see what will Pawan do to contain his leaders.

Ram Charan’s Wife Presents Gift to Tamannah

Tamannah is basking in the glory of the success of “Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy”.

The period drama also features Nayanthara as the female lead but it is Tamannah who is winning appreciation from the critics and the moviegoers.

She got a role that has substance and in the super hit song, “Oh Sye Raa”, her dance movements were a delight to watch.

No wonder then that Ram Charan’s wife Upasana too mighty impressed with Tamannah’s performance.

Ram Charan and Tamannah had paired together in super hit ‘Rachcha’ earlier and she now has acted with Charan’s father Chiranjeevi in this film. The film is produced by Ram Charan.

Lokesh Fails Again, Babu Takes Charge

TDP chief and former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu seems to be deeply disappointed with his son Nara Lokesh’s poor grasping power.

After losing badly in the recent elections, Chandrababu Naidu realized that the party needs to use social media effectively to connect with the current generation of voters.

Social media posts were YSRC Party’s main weapons when it was in the opposition.

Entrusting the job of handling the social media wing of Telugu Desam party to his Stanford educated son Lokesh, Naidu waited for the good results.

Lokesh underwent special training from a batch of specialists in communication for ten days.

However, the results were pathetic. Naidu observed that Lokesh didn’t yet get the grip on social media communication skills. All the training went in vain.

As some leaders are already deserting to BJP as they don’t see any future for them in the party. Hence Naidu now took the charge of social media as well from his son.

Thursday’s outburst of Naidu about YSRCP’s social media in a press meet is the result of this change.

Mehreen to Play Bathukamma celebration in Dallas!!

The leadership team of Telangana Peoples Association of Dallas has confirmed that Mehreen Kaur, F2 Fame will be the guest of Honor for their Bathukamma and Dasara Celebrations to be held on 5th October, at Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.

Since the kick-off meeting 4 weeks ago, Telangana Peoples Association of Dallas is going full steam in its preparation for the most awaited event of Telugus of Dallas, Texas.

Since its inception 5 years ago, TPAD has brought popularity to the celebration of Bathukamma and Dasara celebration in Dallas, to such an extent that, they had to move their venue of celebrations to bigger places, every other year.

Their style of execution of the colorful festival, where there is chanting of Bathukamma by traditionally dressed women praying Goddess Gauri, procession of Goddess Durga in a beautifully decorated chariot and Jammi Pooja, is riveting.

The TPAD leadership team says that, they intention is to make every Telugu household in Dallas to celebrate Bathukamma and Dasara, together at the mammoth, yet beautifully decorated venue.

It has been noticed over the years that, across the USA and the world, TPAD’s celebration of Bathukamma and Dasara has been looked upon as the standard for celebration of the floral festival.

To make it more appealing and encourage participation of youth in the celebration of the festival, they have adopted a unique approach. Their template of celebration is unique for a Bathukamma Celebration.

The day starts with cultural programs, lasting for 3 hours, providing a grand platform for the youth to show case their talent.

Senior Member of TPAD Rao Kalvala and Sharada Singireddy said, this was designed to encourage participation of youth and help them understand and embrace our culture.

The evening is filled with Bathukamma celebrations with around 2000 women brining Bathukammas and playing Bathukamma, with their chanting of Gouri echoing in the huge stadium.

The celebrations not only attract those who play Bathukamma, but also seen as a huge social platform for Telugus living in cities in and around Dallas/Fort-Worth.

The last part of the celebrations is filled with on-request performances from high profile celebrity guests, Telugu movie play back singers and movie actresses.

Looking at the turn out of the crowd of over 10,000 consistently for the past 5 years, for the celebrations, ever since they have adopted this approach, it is undeniable that their methods have worked.

Last year they have tapped the local talent, Anu Emmanuel, who was raised in Dallas metroplex and went on to make an image for herself in Telugu and Tamil movie industry.

For this year’s celebration of Bathukamma, they have chosen Mehreen Kaur, an upcoming young actress, who made a name for herself with the blockbuster family comedy F2, for the celebrations, to be held on 5th October 2019 at the Allen Event Center in Dallas.

The leadership team headed by TPAD Foundation Chair, Janaki Ram Mandadi, Chair of Board of Trustees, Pavan Kumar Gangadhara, President Chandra Police said, preparations are going smoothly with over 200 volunteers working hard in preparing the stage for the grand celebrations.

Raghuveer Bhandaru, a key architect of the template of celebrations over the years, said, like every year, with support from local and venue authorities, TPAD is making all efforts to conduct the event in a safe and comfortable environment and make it a memorable experience for the participants.

Let us hope that the celebrations will be as grand as TPAD is known to deliver and take Bathukamma celebrations to new heights.
