Poor Reviews & Great Collections

Share

On the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi, Bollywood giant producer Yash Raj Films tried to snatch the market with WAR movie, which features Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff in the leads.

The two of the big stars of the current time that could shake up the box office with 100s of crores collection from films that have no story at all, have done it again.

Firstly, all the popular critics of Bollywood nailed the film for its spineless story. Some even pointed out how three different Hollywood action choreographers who worked on films like Avengers and Death Race have saved the movie.

Another critic noted that the film is more like a travel film as the two leading actors travels around the world from Australia to Kazakhstan for fights.

However, audiences are in awe of the action sequences and the sexiness flaunted by Hrithik Roshan in shirtless avatar. The film is most likely to post 35-40+ crores nett collections if trade reports are anything to go by.

That’s the biggest of both Hrithik and Tiger’s career, and we have to say that their double presence helped the film big time.

WAR is the biggest competition and threat to Sye Raa in the North region and it looks like the film really pipped Megastar.

Sr leader quits Janasena

Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena party’s disastrous performance in the elections has really impacted its leaders. After the polls, leaders one by one are quitting the party and this is more worrisome for the cadre.

In a fresh development, Jana Sena senior leader and government programs monitoring chairman Chintala Parthasarathy has resigned to the party. He sent his resignation mail to party president Pawan Kalyan and cited personal reasons for leaving the party.

But from the sources close to Chintala we hear that he is likely to join the ruling YSRCP or BJP. He would be having a word with his supporters and followers before taking a call.

In the last elections, Chintala contested for Anakapalli Parliament seat. He faced a humiliating defeat with just 6 percent votes. Post polls, the Chintala is unhappy with the happenings in the party and for the last couple of months, he staying away from the party activities.

Pawan has acknowledged Chintala’s exit with his partymen and as usual went silent.

All The Top Studios Bring Shine To Sye Raa

Share

For people who admire Visual Effects and who work in the Computer Graphics industry, its a dream come true to see the names of India’s elite VFX companies working for the same movie. With their seamless work ethic, these studios have literally made the hard work poured by Megastar Chiranjeevi shine very bright.

If you watched Sye Raa, one could not miss the posters of various freedom fighters (of whom we don’t even know 80% of the names for sure) during the end credits roll. With due respect to them, the scrolling end titles showcase how many VFX studios worked to craft Sye Raa in that way. Because the film never gave a chance for anyone to comment that a particular scene is done in graphics. The VFX is all realistic, believable and appears like live footage.

Some of the big studios like Makuta (Baahubali), Rexchillies (Zero), Gemini FX, Graft, Unitedsoft, Igene, EFX and many more companies from India joined to deliver Sye Raa’s spectacular visual effects. Then there are international companies like Al Zahra from Armenia, and others, who took part to deliver stunning CGI for the movie.

Integration almost 3200+ CG shots with the story is a daunting task and we need to appreciate the likes of Surender Reddy, Rathanvelu and Kamal Kannana for pulling off such a legendary feat.

Allu Arjun Starts ‘Blessing’

Share

For reasons unknown, stylish star Allu Arjun is trying to emerge out as the independent star, pushing his mega image and Allu tag aside. This not something that will be surprising his fans or any other fans, but one wonders what is really cooking.

Today we have Allu Arjun sharing that he’s doing the Bhumi Pooja of his new house, which is named ‘Blessing’. Whether that will be a palatial residence for the whole of Allu family or just Allu Arjun is not known, but gossips are out that he’s totally moving out of Allu Khaandaan. Earlier when Allu Arjun carved his own office with a signature ‘AA’ all over it and moved out of Geetha Arts office, similar rumours emerged.

Inside talk is that as four families are living inside Allu’s palatial residence in Jubilee Hills including that of Arvind and his wife, Allu Bobby and wife, Arjun and wife, kids, and Sirish, there is not said to be enough space for habitation. That is the reason Bunny is said to be building another house but there are no rifts between them.

Day1: Sye Raa Collects 38 Crs, Bigger than Saaho

Share

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s latest magnum opus “Sye Raa”, which featured him in the role of Uyyalwada Narasimha Reddy, has released other day amidst pomp and hype. Looks like the film had a field day in Telugu states as people thronged to theatres in huge numbers to catch a glimpse of India’s first-ever freedom fight.

Trade reports are indicating that Sye Raa has collected a whopping 38 crores share from Telugu states alone on its Day One. Though the collections in Nizam are 8.10 crores, way below than Baahubali and Saaho, it looks Chiranjeevi made his presence felt in Ceeded and Coastal areas with terrific Day 1 records.

Though there are variable reports on first day collections of Sye Raa from various sources, the number is altering between 37-40 crores share. Whatever it may be, Saaho has collected 36.5+ crores share on Frist Day in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and it looks like Sye Raa surpassed it easily.

Huzurnagar: TRS fielding up Big team

Share

The ruling TRS party is very serious to win the Huzurnagar assembly seat. Once again Working President KTR has taken up the responsibility and he will be hosting a roadshow tomorrow in the constituency.

Also, the TRS leadership is drawing special strategies to win the elections. About 50 incharges have been appointed in the last few days and nearly 10 ministers are campaigning in the constituency regularly. Minister Jagadeesh Reddy is in Huzurnagar ever since the notification was released and he is grooving his supporters to pull as many people as possible to the TRS party’s side.

The other advantage for TRS here is, the CPI’s support. After doldrums, the party decided to go with TRS and their votes could be crucial if the battle is neck to neck. Meanwhile, TDP is seeking CPM’s support as the former party’s candidature has been rejected by the election commission.

All the major political parties are putting their complete effort but the political experts believe that the fight will be between TRS and Congress.

Huzurnagar will go for polling on October 21st.

USA: Sye Raa Registers $1M Opening

Share

Sye Raa Narasimhareddy opened in cinemas allover the world yesterday to positive reviews. The huge hype and the rave reviews helped the film register thumping opening day collections in India and overseas.

Sye Raa grossed over $857K from the Tuesday night premieres in the USA and Canada, with over $810K grossed from the USA alone. Until the latest updates at 9 PM PST, the film has collected over $252K in North America, grossing over $1.11 million on its opening day. This solid opening reiterates Chiru’s unbeatable craze among his fans even after all these years.

With its rocking day 1 performance, Sye Raa has pulled off the all-time 8th highest opening for any Tollywood film in North America, standing next only to Baahubali 2, Agnyaathavaasi, Baahubali, Khaidi No 150, Spyder, Saaho and Bharat Ane Nenu.

Devarakonda played safe with Chiru & Venky

Hero Vijay Devarkonda is now trying his luck as a producer as he comes up with his maiden production venture Meeku Maatrame Chepta that has director Tarun Bhaskar turning up as the lead hero. So when is this film releasing anyway?

Initially, the young hero and his team are said to have thought that October 4th or 5th is a good date considering the Dasara holidays, but the presence of ‘Sye Raa’ and Megastar Chiranjeevi has pushed them back to October 18th. While some dates are there in between, movies like RDX100 and Chanakya are sitting tight on the dates. And now, Vijay is said to be worried about another possible threat to come on 18th.

Though there are only small budgeted movies around, reports are coming that ‘Venky Mama’ release date will be locked for around same time. That might hamper the chances of Meeku Maatrame Chepta to get a grand solo date. Owing to these factors, now Vijay Devarkonda is said to be locking November 1st as the release date of the movie as there is no competition around.

Tamannaah Sweats It Out On Kabaddi Field

Share

Of late, Tamannaah has been portraying diverse, performance-oriented female-centric roles apart from the typical glamorous roles. She has been getting a decent response for her fiery act in Sye Raa Narasimhareddy.

And recently, Tamannaah signed a film in which she will be romancing Gopichand. The project will be directed by Sampath Nandi, her Racha and Bengal Tiger helmer. The film had its formal launch ceremony this morning in Hyderabad.

Interestingly, Tamannaah will be playing the role of a kabaddi coach in the movie. She is currently undergoing kabaddi training at LB Stadium everyday. She has been sweating it out on the kabaddi field for 2 hours daily and is mastering the skills of the game. We will have to wait until the film’s release to see how well Tamannaah shines in this one of its kind role.

Why Is Sivaji Silent On Pattiseema?

Share

After being in a virtual hibernation for several months, Telugu actor Sivaji of “Operation Garuda” fame, is back in the news, once again making sensational allegations.

He released a five-minute video on Wednesday, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, on the social media platforms, talking about patriotism, treason, values in politics and surrender of media to political parties.

His latest target in the video is Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) which is all set to bag the multi-thousand crore contract of Polavaram major irrigation project.

Sivaji went on to explain how Megha Engineering had managed to bag various contracts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including Polavaram, Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme and more importantly, ONGC rigs contract, besides electric buses contract, in a fraudulent manner.

He sought to know how Megha Engineering could amass wealth to the tune of Rs 26,000 crore in a span of just seven years.

According to Sivaji, the way Megha Engineering bagged all these contracts was nothing short of “desadroham” (betrayal of the country). He claimed that he has all the evidences to prove the irregular practices of Megha to get the contracts.

“Megha Krishna Reddy has been pocketing public money. I will disclose these evidences in the social media, as the mainstream media does not have the guts to publish the same,” the actor claimed.

He took pot shots at Andhra chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao indirectly for favouring Megha.

“I will expose all the irregularities committed in the form of reverse tendering and redesigning of irrigation projects,” he said.

Stating that he was feeling threat to his life, Sivaji said he was not afraid of death.

“I have already brought it to the notice of Prime Minister and Union home minister. Now, I will expose the fraud in public,” he said.

Well, Sivaji has spoken about every contract bagged by Megha Engineering. But he conveniently avoided Pattiseema lift irrigation project which was built by Megha Krishna Reddy, on a contract given by TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The former CM not only gave extra money to Megha Krishna Reddy for completing the project before the deadline but also felicitated him in public. Why didn’t Sivaji speak about this project? Was there no “Desa Droham” involved in it?

Apparently, the man behind Sivaji is believed to be V Ravi Prakash, former CEO of popular television channel TV9. Both Sivaji and Ravi Prakash have been close friends and also partners in business.

After the channel was acquired by Megha Krishna Reddy and My Home Rameshwara Rao, Ravi Prakash has been trying to defame them in various ways. The latest allegations made by Sivaji are also believed to be part of this game plan, say sources.

‘War’ could have been named ‘Bore’

Share

Strictly speaking, “War” is not a film. It is a smart product manufactured to gyp you with hardsell, tempt you to splurge on the multiplex tickets in a festive season when the spirit of indulgence runs high.

“War” was always about a catchy title, and about crafting a set of irresistible teasers that promised two of the industry’s hunkiest heroes in full-on action mode, at some of the most gorgeous locations across the planet.

They spent hundreds of crores all of the above. Who needs an engaging story?

I know what you are thinking. Commercial products as “War” are never meant to be about engaging story. Bollywood would rush to defend such ridiculous filmmaking as dutiful efforts to deliver ‘entertainment, entertainment and entertainment’. The operative word used to defend such stuff is ‘timepass’.

With “War”, however, that is precisely where things go all wrong. Despite the hype and hoopla it has arrived with, there is very little entertainment in the film. Time simply doesn’t pass. “War” could have been named “Bore”.

For obvious reasons of commerce, the saleable package is entirely set up around the film’s two heroes – Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff – reducing everything and everyone else including heroine and villains to essential props.

An excuse of a screenplay (Shridhar Raghavan and Siddharth Anand) is set up to insert those standard Hollywood-rehashed action scenes. A parkour sequence somewhere reminds you of Daniel Craig in “Casino Royale” – which looked so glorious all those years ago in 2006. A bike chase is a clean rip-off from Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible” stock. Half a dozen tired cliches used to carry forward the action could set you on a guessing game as to which Hollywood flick you last saw it.

All this is ceremoniously packaged with mandatory mentions of ‘gaddaars’ and ‘deskhbhakti’, since the story is about the Indian intelligence and national security (yes, there is the mandatory high-importance hard drive that everyone is after, because it contains vital info that could jeopardise the country’s safety).

The script credited to Aditya Chopra and Siddharth Anand introduces Hrithik as a rogue agent named Kabir who, at the start of the film, has apparently turned against the nation. He is assigned to eliminate a top terrorist, instead he guns down a high-ranking official of the Indian secret service. Kabir’s onetime protege Khalid (Tiger Shroff) takes on the mission to track him down, with orders to shoot him on sight.

Much of the first half is wasted in establishing their back stories, serving up very little action, much lesser thriller quotient, and almost no plot progression that may catch you by surprise. For most parts, oscillating between flashback and present day setting, the film hangs on to a one-point question – why is Kabir killing people who are considered honourable by India?

And while you could guess the answer to that one long before the film finally, lazily serves it, you go into the second half hoping some solid action will make up for the dead early portion.

Sadly, a snailpaced narrative goes through the predictable motions post interval, before the stage is set for what you paid to watch – Hrithik and Tiger squaring off against each other in an all-important climax showdown.

The climax action is an outcome of a ludicrous plot twist, involving an outrageously unimaginative subtext about plastic surgery. Still, despite its sheer silliness, the twist would seem like the only original thing about “War”.

The action climax, which the final twist lets Hrithik and Tiger engage in, is sadly a throwback of standard stunt scenes that looked spectacular in Hollywood movies of the nineties. Long before the Hrithik-versus-Tiger fight draws to its predictable end, a lot of the audience was actually heading for the exit.

Just as it was never meant to be a film in the strictest sense, “War” was also never meant to be about acting skills. Hrithik and Tiger were never really required to act in this film – they were required to pose, strut and unleash the swag, and they do all of it with gusto. If “War” was always about its leading men, the duo manages to deliver some thunder in this piece of absolute blunder.

Go for “War” only if you root for Hrithik and/or Tiger.
