Can Saaho Touch The Mighty 500 Cr Mark?
Prabhas “Saaho” is in theatres since the last two weeks and entertaining a section of audiences big time, though the film hasn’t welcomed any showers of praise from critics. And the big numbers being printed on the latest posters of this heavy budgeted movie are now catching all the attention.
The other day a poster of Saaho has come out indicating that the film has collected 424+ crores ‘gross’ so far from the worldwide box office. Well, if we look at ‘nett’ collections, the film made its entry into 300 crores club as this number suggests. That makes Saaho join the sides of many biggies including PK and Tiger Zinda Hai that collected 340 crores nett.
But the reality is that, even though Saaho collected huge money, the Telugu version buyers are going to lose nearly 30%-40% of their investment as the film is struggling to cross the 80 crore mark ‘share’ while the needed recovery is at 123 crores. Hindi distributors might get no losses due to good run in Bollywood.
And the thing is, fans want to see if Saaho could collect another 75+ crores gross and touch the 500 crore mark. For now, its an impossible dream.
Gang Leader Day 1: Decent Start
Nani and Vikram Kumar’s Gang Leader has got decent start at the Box Office. The family heist-thriller opened well despite low pre-release buzz and mixed reviews. As per trade analysts, Gang Leader earned a share of Rs 1.66 Crore in Nizam on Friday.
Even as the figures of Andhra and Ceded are yet to clock in, it is learnt that the film got decent opening there as well. In the US, Gang Leader took off well. Including Thursday premieres and Friday opening, it collected USD 350 K.
However, Gang Leader posted slightly less collection than Jersey’s Day 1. Jersey earned 1.93 Crore share in Nizam on its opening day and collected USD 410 K through US premieres and openings.
Whereas in ticketing portals, Gang Leader got good user ratings. 89 percent ratings were seen in portals like BMS. As Nani is pulling crowds single-handedly to theatres and family audience expected to flock to theatres, trade is hoping that Gang Leader will post good numbers on Saturday and Sunday.

AP’s world-class capital dreams have shattered. The dreams crashed as soon as new government under YS Jagan took oath as the CM. Right from the steep decline of land value in capital city to lack of investments to lack of employment to huge losses to businesses set up in new capital to dilemma among investors over the capital to real-estate builders to unavailability of sand to stalling of works to cancelling of contracts to call for reverse tendering to renegotiation on PPA (Power Purchase Agreements) to collapse of agricultural and allied industries, former CM Chandrababu Naidu’s dream capital city i.e “world-class” capital city Amaravati is struggling to the core.
A pal of gloom descended over Amaravati ever since Municipal Administration minister Botsa made critical comments on the capital and the possible shift of capital.
Especially, the construction sector is badly hit in Amaravati. Government’s restriction on Sand has stalled majority of constructions resulting in lack of work for poor coolies and mestris. Labour are in lurch of work and unable to feed their hunger.
Earlier in Naidu government, a truck load of sand used to cost Rs 500. Now, a truck load of sand officially costs Rs 1400 and bribes are additional. All these are affecting construction section to the core. With unable to meet steep high in prices of construction materials, several builders have stalled the works. The payments are stopped. It is daily-wage labour who are most affected. Despite their hue and cry, government is not even bothered to set things right.
Farmers who bought earthmovers and leased to corporate houses are now in distress as the machines have been unused over two months and they are rusting in sun and rain. A farmer from Tulluru had bought 3 earthmovers with a private loan of Rs 60 lakh and his monthly EMI is Rs 70,000 and he has to pay salaries to his staff. With no work and no income, the farmer is so worried as he may default his installments of loan. With no other option, he has put the earthmover on sale for loss.
On the other hand, several people have sold their properties elsewhere and invested in appliance showrooms in AP capital hoping for boom and it would become another Hyderabad. But their dreams crashed as there are no footfalls and no business in new capital resulting in big losses to shop owners.
Even as Union Government itself has cautioned AP government over PPAs and it could effect the foreign investors and they may lose confidence, unfazed Jagan administration doesn’t mend its way. And so Polavaram where state government wants reverse tendering. After their contracts are terminated, Navayuga has moved the High Court and got a suspension order from HC interim on AP government’s order. And the issue is in court.
Polavaram is now delayed and this may even increase the overall cost of the project. If these are not enough, nonetheless World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), who were supposed to lend over 2130.92 Crore to AP, have backed out after the change of government.
Naturally, all these are being projected against Amaravati in national media in bad light. Of late, there are several painful articles in almost all top media publications on ‘Amaravati Ghost Town’ and how the city is turning into nightmare.
With political war erupted between YCP and TDP, Amaravati has become a victim of the political whims and fancies. As CM Jagan is trying his best to wipe out all the deeds (good or bad) of Chandrababu and adopting a step-by-step measure to curb crucial decisions taken by Naidu and his government. This led to a great fear among capital region farmers who sacrificed their lands to government under Ramesh. The ongoing conundrum over capital, and recent times have pushed many into dark.
It is high time, Jagan administration should keep politics aside and act immediately to get back to normalcy. As people in large numbers are suffering, this is government’s responsibility to ensure economy isn’t affected. While an Experts Committee is constituted on AP Capital Amaravati and expecting a report within six weeks, on the other hand, government should initiate damage control steps. Several companies and investments have already backed out of AP causing loss of investment and employment to state.
Hoarding kills techie: ‘Sorry Subhashri’ Is Trending
The horrific, heart-wrenching and saddening news of Subhasri’s death is currently leaving the whole nation in a mourning state. The 23-year-old Subhasri, who was an IT Techie in Chennai, died in a dreary road mishap, after an illegal hoarding, which was swinging loosely on a divider, came and fell on her bike. She was later crushed by a tanker lorry coming from behind, leaving her spot dead. The frightening video of her death was recorded on CCTV.
The fateful incident of a young girl with many aspirations has been buried all of a sudden and her family and friends can not take the news at all. Soon after, the locals made a protest on banning all the illegal government hoardings.
High Court Serious:
On this, the Madras High Court directed the TN government and the Chennai Corporation to take strict action against officials who failed to look after such illegal hoarding erections. The hoarding which fell on Subhasri and turned into a death trap was to welcome Dy.CM O Panneerelvam to the wedding of ex-AIADMK Councillor S Jayagopal.
The state government was ordered to pay an interim compensation of Rs 5 lakh to Subhasri’s family. “The corporation and the police have failed in their duties. Life would not have been lost if they had done their duties properly. The Chief Secretary and the Corporation Commissioner have not kept their word,” said HC.
Also, the High Court passed orders on a contempt petition over the TN government’s failure to check illegal hoardings despite a court order banning them. An action had been taken against the tanker lorry driver who rammed onto Subhasri out of control and an FIR has been registered against the person who erected the illegal hoarding. The state government’s council later said that the traffic cops should ensure no banner is erected without permission.

It is unfortunate that in spite of wearing a helmet, Subhasri had to succumb to the fatal injuries and the social media showed outrage over government’s negligence after bidding a teary goodbye to the 23-year-old. Also, a hashtag #SorrySubhasri and #WhoKilledSubasri is trending on the internet calling it a political murder.

Pawan’s Report: YS Jagan Failed In 100 Days
Breaking his silence on YCP rule, Pawan Kalyan has unleashed a direct attack on YS Jagan administration. Unveiling a report on Jagan’s 100 day rule at party office in Mangalagiri on Friday, Pawan alleged that the YCP government has failed in all major aspects including investments, health, Polavaram, Sand policy, PPAs. He said Jagan’s 100 day governance couldn’t take necessary measures to control seasoned diseases like Dengue, Malaria.
He said both vision and transparency are lacking in Jagan’s rule. Stalling of irrigation projects like Polavaram have been found fault in Janasena’s report. Pawan said the law and order situation in AP is deteriorating due to politics of vendetta. Pawan expressed his dissent over lack of basic facilities, infrastructure in government schools.
Blaming Jagan government, Janasena report has 33 pages highlighting 9 crucial topics. He said the policy on sand has pushed construction field and its labour into trouble. He asked whether the woes of workers are reaching the government or not. Pawan opined that there is no transparency in the decisions taken by Jagan administration.
Pawan went onto criticize Jagan rule. He said that there is no match to YCP’s manifesto and its implementation. The Janasena chief stated that he is moved by the degrading of ethics, values in politics. Speaking on Grama Volunteers, Pawan opined that the goverment’s move looks like for preparation of next election. He said the Grama Volunteers will be deathknell to YCP like how Janmabhoomi committees became to TDP.
Nannapaneni facing arrest for abusing SI
Stage is set for the arrest of senior Telugu Desam Party leader and former AP Mahila Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari for allegedly abusing a Dalit police officer using her caste name.
YSR Congress party MLA from Mangalagiri Alla Ramakrishna Reddy on Friday met Director General of Police Gautam Sawang and submitted a petition demanding the immediate arrest of Nannapaneni Rajakumari.
During Chalo Atmakur rally on Wednesday, Nannapaneni allegedly made objectionable comments against a Dalit sub-inspector Anuradha, who came to the hotel where the TDP leader was staying to prevent her from coming out to participate in the rally.
Hurt with Nannapaneni’s comments, the SI filed a complaint with Mangalagiri police station. The police have booked a case on Nannapaneni under 303, 506,509 r/w 34 IPC Sections.
On the other hand, the YSRCP leaders strongly condemned the abusive language used by the former Mahila Commission chairperson. They staged a dharna in Mangalagiri demanding her arrest.

5 of a family killed in Andhra crash
Amaravati: Five members of a family were killed and another injured as a car in which they were travelling caught fire after it overturned in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district on Saturday, police said.
The victims comprised three children and two women. The ghastly tragedy occurred near Mamudugu village when the family was on its way from Tirupati to Bengaluru.
The driver, Vishnu, apparently lost control of the car, which overturned and fell off the road. Under the impact of the crash, the vehicle caught fire, trapping the occupants.
The driver, who survived the accident with burn injuries, was shifted to a hospital in Tirupati.
According to the police, Vishnu’s wife, a son, a daughter, sister and nephew were killed in the accident.
‘Yellow media’ trying to create rift between KCR & Harish!
Yellow media in Telangana which raised a hue and cry all these days saying that TRS chief and Telangana CM KCR had sidelined Harish Rao by not taking him into his cabinet till recently, is now trying to create rift between KCR and Harish.
KCR not only inducted Harish into his cabinet recently but also gave him important portfolio of finance, which is considered to be No.2 position in the cabinet.
This left yellow media shell shocked as they are unable to publish ‘cooked up stories’ against KCR and Harish since then.
The yellow media is now desperate to find new routes to create rift between KCR and Harish.
They are deliberately highlighting Harish in their newspapers and not giving importance to KCR’s news.
They are publishing interviews of Harish by making their own interpretations to give an impression as if Harish is running the state government.
One yellow newspaper recently carried a banner story on Harish saying that Harish started taking tough decisions as finance minister like cutting down MLA, MLC constituency development funds, cancelled customary gifts being given to MLAs, MLCs during Budget session of Legislature, cancelled dinners being given to MLAs, MLCs, officials during Budget session etc.
Anyone with a common sense knows that such decisions on crucial financial matters will be taken at CM-level and not at any minister-level.
The news tried to project as if Harish succeeded in setting right the things in these times of economic recession, where KCR failed.
To embarrass CM, they have taken big picture of Harish on top and a small picture of KCR in the bottom.
Few other yellow media organisatios are publishing stories that Harish is upset at KCR for giving him finance ministry which is ‘insignificant’.
They say KCR gave him finance ministry because it has no connect with people which does not suit a mass leader like Harish.
There were never any instances of projecting finance minister as ‘insignifcant’ whether at Centre or in States.
But the yellow media is desperate to project finance ministry as insignificant with a view to create rift between KCR and Harish.
