Drugs Case: Puri, Charmi, Ravi Teja Get Clean Chit

Share

The infamous drug scandal that broke out in July 2017 saw several big names of Tollywood. The drugs case and its investigation had shook Tollywood. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had busted a major drug racket which supplied high-end drugs like lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and methylenedioxy- methamphetamine (MDMA) to students, celebrities and a few people in corporate sector.

In this case, at least 15 well-known film personalities including director Puri Jagannadh, actors Charmi, Ravi Teja, Mumaith Khan, Tarun, Tanish, Navdeep, Nandu, Subbaraju, cinematographer Shyam K Naidu, art director Chinna and others were interrogated. Excise Enforcement Director Akun Sabarwal had probed the matter thoroughly and the high-profile had garnered a lot of significance in media. Even the samples such as strands of hair, nails, etc. of some of them were collected by the authorities for examination.

After a lot of probe, finally, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has given a clean chit to all the film personalities involved with the durgs racket. The film personalities were called for investigation after their contacts were found from the kingpin of Hyderabad drug racket Calvin Mascarenha who was arrested by the ED earlier.

Looks like, the drugs case that shook Tollywood then has now ended as a happy ending with no one from Tollywood found guilty. It’s a big relief to all those whose names were dragged into media in connection with the case.

Another Heroine Joins Jabardasth Gang!

One of the most popular yet facing the controversy axe, is the comedy show Jabardasth. Though new faces are quite common among the teams and teammates, very rarely we see Nagababu and Roja leaving their judge seats.

Due to general elections in Andhra Pradesh and with both Nagababu and Roja contesting the election, they have taken a break from the show, giving the mantle to Sekhar Master, Jani and Meena. However, Roja has returned to the show in quick time and is throwing judgements from the last couple of weeks along with Meena. But here’s another change to the judges’ team.

Now, Meena has finished her short stint on Jabardasth it looks like and her chair is now occupied by another heroine of her times, Kannada beauty Sanghavi. This Mysore girl is famous for films like Taj Mahal, Aaha, Samarasimha Reddy and Mrugaraju. She’s now going to sit by Roja’s side for a couple of episodes until Nagababu replaces her.

Buzz has that the mega brother will come back to the show only after election results get announced.

Chay’s Lady Cousin To Turn His Villain

One wonders why would they start their career as a heroine and then give it up in a single shot. Then they will be opting to wear the grease paint again and again. Highly successful Dimple Kapadia made the youths of this country mad with ‘Bobby’ and got married immediately thereby stopping her career for a decade. Later she made re-entry as a heroine and worked for years.

Coming to Telugu, though not such successful, we have Nagarjuna’s niece Supriya Yarlagadda debuting as a heroine with Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi movie of Pawan Kalyan. She has retired from the acting post that film for 20 years and recently gave re-entry with Adivi Sesh’s Goodachari. Buzz has that she will be continuing her career in acting now while she looks after the day to day affairs of Annapurna Studios as well.

Reports are coming that Supriya will be seen in Venky and Chay’s upcoming film “Venky Mama” in a negative role. Though discussions are over, Supriya is yet to join the cast officially, says a source from the film unit.

Buzz: Varun Tej Hikes His Remuneration

Share

All these days rumors about heroine Pooja Hegde’s remuneration for Valmiki have come out, finally making the heroine jump out of the ship. But now, have a look at how much mega hero Varun Tej is drawing for his lead hero act.

Earlier Varun Tej used to demand 3 crores, but after films like Fidaa and Antariksham, he got labeled as a hero who will pick different films and got a small hike. However, the success of F2 made sure that Varun Tej could easily pull off mega box office feats provided with right director and producer. That made Varun now demand a whopping 7 crores and he will be taking home nearly 6.5 crores after tax deductions. For his next Valmiki, we hear that he’s being paid this amount.

Among the mega heroes, Allu Arjun and Ram Charan are the super successful heroes who are now demanding more than 20 crores per film. And it looks like Varun Tej is next to them and couple of hits will push him into that 10 crore club.

Jabardasth: Nagababu Waiting For Results

Share

Mega brother Nagababu has unexpectedly taken a political turn in the recently concluded general election. After attending just one political meeting of Janasena party, he has acquired Bhimavaram MP ticket and party supremo Pawan Kalyan confirmed that as no one is coming forward to take that MP ticket he asked his brother to contest.

Whatever his political future maybe, Nagababu has earlier reiterated that he will be continuing to judge popular comedy show Jabardasth. But now that his fellow judge and MLA contestant Roja Reddy is also back to the show, one wonders what is stopping Nagababu from coming back. Inside sources revealed that his brother Pawan Kalyan is the reason for Nagababu not making his inroads into the comedy show.

“Though Nagababu is very much interested to go back to Jabardasth, he is right now wondering what Pawan will think about it, as the Powerstar is not all clear on coming back to films or not. After May 23rd, looking at the result, both the mega brothers will have a word, then Pawan might give him a nod to go for Jabardasth” a source said. Looks like Pawan is confusing his brother a lot regarding professional work.

Appreciation From Prabhas Is A Honour -Shahid Kapoor

Share

A couple of weeks back, celebrity hairstylist Hakim Alim revealed that he has made Prabhas call up Shahid Kapoor as the Baahubali star wanted to appreciate the Bollywood hero for his work on Arjun Reddy remake. But what did Prabhas exactly said to Shahid?

“That day Alim called me up from his mobile and made Prabhas speak to me. He appreciated that Kabir Singh teaser sounded quite original rather like a copy-paste film. With Prabhas coming from the same community Sandeep comes from, an appreciation from him is truly an honour. Kabir Singh is made for a different audience, but still, Prabhas liked it, and that’s his greatness” said Shahid, at the trailer launch of the film other day.

It looks like Prabhas is making good friends with Bollywood counterparts thus positioning himself as the next bilateral star on the lookout. Very rarely south heroes succeed in Bollywood in both films and friendships.

KCR lost hope on Modi returning to power?

Share

Why is Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao sending feelers to the Congress party through its alliance partners as being reported in several national media circles?

According to sources, KCR, who has been getting regular feedback from all sources over the trends in the ongoing elections has come to the conclusion after six phases that the chances of National Democratic Alliance under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi returning to power for a second term are very bleak.

In fact, KCR reportedly told the same to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M K Stalin in Chennai during their meeting on Monday.

Initially, the TRS chief thought he would garner the support of all regional parties and then bargain with the BJP for a better share of power. In the process, he even dreamt of becoming the deputy prime minister.

When he realized that chips are down for the BJP and Modi, he started reviving the concept of federal front so that it can form the government with either the BJP support or the Congress support. For that, he had to convince all the other regional parties, which are mostly against the BJP.

But KCR has sensed that the anti-BJP regional parties are not willing to take up the federal front experiment by ignoring the Congress. So, he has now started tilting towards the Congress.

At a recent meeting of the party leaders, KCR reportedly spoke positively about Rahul Gandhi.

So, when Stalin suggested to KCR that the TRS too should support the Congress to form a government, he did not rule that possibility out. But he also discussed the possibility of a regional coalition supported by Congress from outside.

“We won’t make Narendra Modi and Amit Shah to come back to power. If that requires supporting Congress or asking the Congress to support a coalition, we are fine with either,” a TRS leader said.

BJP slips but maintains advantage in betting market

Share

The 120-year-old satta bazar, or betting market, at Indore has rarely been so quiet during election season as this time around. The IPL cricket championship which concluded on Sunday was one distraction. But the bigger reason was the police raid a month ago that sent it into a hush.

The market that wagers big ticket on everything under the sun has cautioned all regulars against possible police raids. Last month’s raids led to several arrests and seizure of telephone networks in Indore and Bhopal. Only experienced hands know how to deal with the subdued mood caused by police vigil.

The “show has to go on”, says a newsperson who regularly reports the activity. The betting urge is irrepressible. Such measures, sometimes, push up the rates. The market is said to be operating under intense scrutiny.

The satta bazar had predicted a Congress victory in the December assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh which came true though the numbers fell short. The bookies initially gave the Congress party 122 seats while the then ruling BJP was trailing at 90. But as the tickets were finalised after the scrutiny and the battle lines were drawn, the BJP inched ahead past 100 to settle at 102 while the Congress slipped to 114. It stayed there on the figure in the market and in reality.

With just one phase of polling left in the current elections there has been a drop in support for BJP, according to punters. Till about ten days ago the odds were in favour of BJP to cross a total of 240 seats on its own and making a comfortable majority along with other partners of the NDA. The last two phases BJP’s tally is being quoted at 220 in the satta market.

In Madhya Pradesh the next round of polling is due in the Malwa and Nimar region, generally considered to a stronghold of the party. With the denial of tickets to some stalwarts and growing resentment among party men the stock has come down. Of the eight constituencies up for grabs in the final round the BJP held seven. Given the results of the assembly elections held just five months ago it was surprising that the betting market kept its trust with the BJP. The Congress is still tottering at 100 seats at the national level. That sentiment persists.

In Bhopal the change in mood was drastic after the nomination of Pragya Thakur. Divijaya Singh who seemed sitting pretty with a month-long advantage of structured campaigning suddenly found his younger rival zooming past riding emotive issues of Hindutva and nationalism. Punters mostly bet on the overall tally of the parties. But factors like local influences of contests sway the punters. The going rate is generally quoted on the tally the BJP is expected to reach at national-level. It hovered at 248 in the last week of April and has come to 220.

The odds could change. With the visits of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi the atmosphere is surcharged and both parties are revise their estimates. The rebel activity and dissent of dropped candidates, ability of the leadership to address the issues and the capacity of intra-party rivals to hurt the chances of various candidates do influence the punters. However, in the final analysis the gut feeling dictates the call.

Indore’s satta market has always witnessed intense activity during polling or the cricket season. The activity at other times is on ordinary issues like prospects of rain or rates of commodities or such events. Some calls have gone woefully wrong too. For instance the 2015 polls in Delhi and Bihar were called wrong by the Indore market. “The Aam Aadmi Party opened at 17 seats, but won 67,” says an old hand at the market.

The worst debacle was the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls of 2017. The markets called the BJP figure at 203 seats, which actually overshot to 325. That was perhaps the occasion when payments could not be made to many punters.

No Third Front: Stalin Pours Cold Water On KCR Plans

Share

DMK president MK Stalin on Tuesday said he saw no chances for a non-BJP, non-Congress “third front” post-Lok Sabha polls, but a decision could be taken only after May 23, the counting day.

Stalin’s remarks come a day after TRS supremo and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekara Rao, who has been pushing for a non-Congress, non-BJP federal front of regional parties, called on the DMK chief here.

Stalin, also Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition, said Rao had not visited the state for forging alliances.

“He did not come to form alliances. He came to Tamil Nadu to offer prayers in various temples and on that basis, sought an appointment with me for a courtesy call. That is all,” he told reporters here.

Rao had earlier visited the Sri Ranganatha Temple at Srirangam before meeting Stalin.

Asked about the possibility of a “third front” sans BJP and Congress, the DMK leader said, “It doesn’t seem to me that there is a chance for that.”

“However, that will be decided only after counting on May 23,” he added.

Poll Results: Interesting Verdict On Maharshi

Maharshi has opened to mixed talk all over, but has been doing phenomenal business at the box office.

The film is going great guns at the ticket windows across Telugu states. The word of mouth isn’t outright positive, but that isn’t affecting its collections much.

Even the netizens verdict on Maharshi has been largely mixed with more than twenty five percent votes for all three outcomes.

In a poll conducted by GreatAndhra, nearly 43% participants voted Maharshi as a hit. 32% felt it is average and 25% gave it the thumbs down.

Netizens verdict for Maharshi also is identical to the general word of mouth.

Maharshi isn’t a bad film, but simply couldn’t live up to the expectations because of rehashed ideas and scenes.

Mahesh’s performance is being lauded by everyone that has watched the film.

Actor prefers ‘kebabs’ over being ‘nawab’

Saif Ali Khan had a witty reply to a troll who questioned him about being a “nawab”. The actor commented that he prefers “kebabs”.

While on Arbaaz Khan’s chat show “Pinch”, Saif went through some social media comments made on him and was asked to react to them.

In a promo of the episode, Arbaaz is seen showing one comment to Saif. It reads, “On being a nawab and still clinging on to rotten ‘hukumat’.”

After reading it, Saif quipped: “I have never been interested in being a nawab. I prefer eating kebabs.”

Known for his wit and humour, Saif even hit back at a troll, who questioned the “Hum Tum” actor for turning up at actress Sonam Kapoor’s wedding in a simple white kurta pajama.

“It was her wedding, not mine,” responded Saif.

On the work front, Saif is gearing up for the launch of the second season of “Sacred Games”.

Watson batted with bleeding knee in IPL final

Share

Shane Watson, who scored a valiant 80 for the Chennai Super Kings in the finals of the just concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) which CSK lost to Mumbai Indians, batted all the way battling an injury, reveals his teammate Harbhajan Singh.

Watson almost proved the saviour in the cliffhanger chase, playing a sensational 59-ball knock in an almost one-man show as CSK tried to chase down Mumbai’s 8/149 on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The Australian almost pulled off the miracle to win the fourth IPL trophy for the Yellow Brigade who fell short by just one run.

Singh on Monday posted a photo on his Instagram showing the Australian on bended knee, flaying a ball through the off-side.

In the image, one can see a large patch of blood on Watson’s left upper thigh and Singh revealed how the opening batsman wasn’t going to be stopped by the wound.

“Can you guys see the blood on his knee,” Singh wrote. “He got 6 stitches after the game… got injured while diving but continue (sic) to bat without telling anyone.

“That’s our @srwatson33, almost pulled it (off) for us last night,” he added.

Watson fought valiantly for Chennai but couldn’t take his team over the line as CSK was bowled out for 148 with Lasith Malinga brilliantly bowling the final over defending 8 runs off it to see his side clinch the IPL title for a record fourth time.
