‘Mr Majnu’ Movie Review

Share

Akhil Akkineni’s Mr. Majnu is a romantic drama directed by Tholi Prema fame Venky Atluri. The director has once again shown his command over handling romance dramas. Mr. Majnu has enough entertainment and drama to fetch the first hit for Akhil.

What is it about?

Vicky aka Vikram Krishna (Akhil) has a problem with longtime relationships. Despite knowing his flirtatious attitude, Nikki (Nidhi) falls for him. However, Vicky couldn’t reciprocate the love to Nikki and they separate. Now Vicky realizes his love for Nikki and goes to win her back.

Performances:

Akhil is stylish, suave and very much believable as the guy who can win any girl. Besides his handsome looks and fit physique, Akhil has come up with a very good performance as Vicky. He has the talent and attitude to compete against the best. Nidhi Agarwal is good looking but the character demands a better performer. Priyadarshi and Adhi offers humor as the hero’s sidekicks in the first half and second half respectively. All the senior actors like Nagababu, Sitara and Rao Ramesh have done a neat job. Subbaraju is good as the tough looking guy with a soft heart.

Technicalities:

Venky Atluri is talented enough to make a routine story work with his narrative skills. His story doesn’t offer any freshness, but the treatment makes it click with neatly sprinkled emotions and well written dialogue. He knows the elements that would click with the youth and also does a fine job in handling emotions.

Thaman who had done a fabulous job in Tholi Prema has impressed with his work again. Mr. Majnu has some very good songs and a fine background score. Cinematographer George C. Williams cinematography is the highlight. The color palette and the warm tones make it a pleasant viewing experience. Editing is okay and the production values are rich.

Thumbs Down:

Analysis:

Mr. Majnu is a straightforward film that can be easily guessed by anybody where it is headed to. It has a predictable storyline with a serious girl falling for a flirtatious guy. The breakup and patch up also could be guessed straightaway. Despite the predictable plot and the screenplay, Mr. Majnu works because of the well written scenes and good emotions. Although the film is predominantly about the differences between the boy and girl, director Venky works the family emotions around in an impressive way.

The biggest challenge for the director is to convince the viewers about the serious girl falling for a guy with such a ‘loose’ character. And Venky has done a tremendous job in making so. There are some fine scenes between Akhil, Rao Ramesh and Jaya Prakash that will strike a chord with the viewers. Also the non-commitment of the protagonist’s character towards the female protagonist has been established well.

First half is very entertaining and impressive, but the second half takes the routine route like many love stories. There is an attempt to make it entertaining with the introduction of few funny characters like an animated kid, Adhi and Subbaraju. However, the fun quotient is not enough to overlook the cliches. But what works is Akhil’s sincere performance and well thought out dialogue that saves the film from losing the interest of viewers. Venky does a good job in tying the loose ends and ending the film on an emotional note.

Mr. Majnu has a nice soundtrack that is a must for any love story to work, cool visuals and trendy characters that click with the contemporary audience. Despite the cliches and been-there-seen-that appeal, Mr. Majnu mostly works for its sincerity and simplicity. On the box office front, it should work in A centers better compared to the B and C centers.

Verdict: Akhil Steals the Show

Yatra Team Waiting For Jagan’s Date

Share

Yatra, the semi-biopic on former chief minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhara Reddy, has completed its shoot and is clearing all decks to hit screens on February 8th. Malayalam star Mammootty will be seen as YSR in the film.

Meanwhile, Yatra’s team has been planning to organize a grand pre-release event in the last week of January to take the buzz around the film to the next level. Apparently, the makers have invited YSR’s son and YSRCP President YS Jagan to the event.

However, Jagan is said to have left the makers on a waiting mode. He is yet to confirm his date from his busy schedule and that’s why Yatra’s team has not announced the date for the pre-release event so far. Some clarity on the event’s date is expected in a few days.

Two Item girls rejected Gopichand?

Share

It’s no secret that the Loukyam star Gopichand is going through a rough patch these days. Regardless of that, Producer Anil Sunkara has opted him to make a big budget film under the direction of Thiru. Recently, the principal shooting of this untitled film kicked off at India-Pakistan border. But there’s something that is bothering the makers of this film currently.

The casting unit has received a setback from two hot ladies, who demanded a heavy pay cheque to feature as second heroine opposite the struggling actor. Reportedly, the Kollywood hottie Raai Laxmi, who recently failed to make a successful Bollywood debut with ‘Julie’, has demanded Rs 45 lakhs and another item girl Hamsa Nandini, who acted with Gopichand in the past, also asked Rs 40 lakhs for that role. Considering that it’s not the main lead role and the amount of time for that character, the casting team felt the moolah they demanded was too hefty and irrational.

So, the producers have decided to drop both the hotties as they are demanding more than their due and finally zeroed in on Bollywood actress Zareen Khan, who’s popular with films like Housefull 2, Hate Story 2 and Aksar 2. Padi Padi Leche Manasu fame Vishal Chandrasekhar will be scoring audio tunes for this action film and Abburi Ravi is the dialogue writer.

Pic Talk: Samantha Tries The Cart Wheel

Share

When it comes to fitness, queen bee Samantha wins all the gold medals amongst Tollywood actresses. Also, she loves to try various new things in the gym. But sometimes that sets some happy and some feel envy.

Other day Mrs. Akkineni has tried a cartwheel in the gym, where she has to rotate her whole body to the sidewards like a wheel, balancing on her hands. Sharing a picture of the act, surely she has set temperatures soaring. “When the body does not disappoint the mind. Day 2 .. learning to do a cartwheel” she wrote, sharing the picture.

Needless to say, she is looking super hot and her fit look is going to be another trendsetting point for Tollywood. Maybe she is trying to burn the calories she might have put on during her recent Netherlands trip to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s week.

On films front, Samantha is taking part in Nandini Reddy’s next, a remake of a Korean movie, and also getting ready to join next schedule of ‘Majili’ movie.

Mahesh’s Speech On Villages Is A Superhit

Share

These days Mahesh Babu wants to do more of socially interesting films rather than just commercial movies. That is the reason he is agreeing to films like Srimanthudu, Bharat Ane Nenu, and Spyder, though one of them didn’t work. And here comes an interesting tidbit about his next.

In upcoming ‘Maharshi’, as we said already, the film is all about a software engineer from the USA returning to his native village, realizing the beauty of his own family, people and the village itself. Though laced with lots of commercial elements, the film’s main theme is a socially relevant one.

A birdie revealed us that the interval part of the film is going to be a big bang in theatres. Mahesh Babu will be delivering a lengthy speech about the importance of villages in the 7-minute-odd interval block, they say. And we hear that the dialogues written by a couple of writers for this scene are so terrific.

With April 25th locked for Mahesh already, looks like the buzz is already building up for this Vamsi Paidipally directorial.

Cong Ready For Alliance With Jagan, Pawan!

Share

The Congress party might have declared that it will not have any pre-election alliance with the Telugu Desam Party in the ensuing general elections in Andhra Pradesh, but it is ready to have an alliance with YSR Congress party headed by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Jana Sena Party headed by actor Pawan Kalyan.

Well, this was the opinion of senior Congress leader and former MP from Tirupati Chinta Mohan.

He told media in Tirupati on Thursday that the Congress was ready to ally with YSRC for Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections if Jagan Reddy had no objection.

“if the alliance materializes, we don’t mind giving the chief minister post to Jagan,” he said.

In the same breath, Chinta Mohan also said the Congress was also ready to ally with Jana Sena Party.

He said that Pawan Kalyan was the brother of Chiranjeevi, who belonged to the Congress, so there would be nothing wrong in having an alliance with Jana Sena.

However, the Congress leader said the comments were entirely his personal opinions, but said he would talk to the high command about these alliances if necessary.

Chinta Mohan hailed the party’s decision to contesting alone and not joining hands with TDP for coming polls in AP.

He said the Congress would have to face serious troubles had it allied with the TDP in AP, as had happened in Telangana.

“The Congress party is not ready to repeat the same mistake,” he said.

Meanwhile, APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy lashed out at YSRCP for alleging that the Congress was contesting the election in AP alone only to split the anti-establishment votes, so as to benefit the TDP.

“It is utterly ridiculous and shameless on the part of the YSRC to make such allegations,” he said.

Wait Gets Longer For Brahmin Billionaire!

Share

During the Telangana agitation, using the money they allegedly extorted from Andhra businessmen, KCR family started ‘Namasthe Telangana’ newspaper.

KTR used to oversee the management of the newspaper and it soon started incurring losses.

The newspaper was then taken over by ‘Bada Brahmin’ contractor CL Rajam. Maybe it was luck or efficient management, the newspaper made a turnaround into profits.

Rajam who was a close friend and financier of KCR was promised a Rajya Sabha seat but equations changed after the formation of Telangana.

Not only was Rajam not sent to the Rajya Sabha, his newspaper ‘Namasthe Telangana’ was forcibly taken over by KCR who felt the need for a Party mouthpiece.

An infuriated Rajam quit the TRS and joined the BJP. But the Party has hardly any presence in Telangana and during the recent elections, Rajam promoted the Congress vigorously in his new Telugu newspaper Vijaya Kranthi.

With TRS romping back to power and the BJP not in a position to accommodate Rajam’s Raya Sabha aspirations as of now, the wait could get longer for this Brahmin billionaire.

Tweet Review: ‘Mr Majnu’, first day, first show

Share

“Mr. Majnu feels like my debut film. This should have been my first film,” Akhil told during his media interaction.

Nagarjuna said Hello is a re launch for Akhil after his debut film Akhil bombed at the box office. Sadly, re launch also didn’t yield desired results for Akhil that he had to cut down on budget in his third attempt.

While Akhil and Hello fell into Rs. 40 crore bracket, Mr. Majnu falls into under Rs. 25 crore bracket, which makes it a bit easier for the Akkineni Prince to score a success.

However, Mr. Majnu clearly lacks the pre release buzz and hype that his first two movies had. Although the film looks promising with good songs and decent looking promos, it hasn’t raised curiosity among the film buffs.

Mr. Majnu needs to open to positive word of mouth to cash in on the weekend. It doesn’t have much competition from straight films, but it may face stiff competition in Hyderabad with Manikarnika getting maximum number of shows in multiplexes.

Mr. Majnu is directed by Venky Atluri who scored a hit with his debut film Tholi Prema. The director yet again offers a youth-friendly film with lot of contemporary elements.

We brings to you the Mr Majnu experience and all the excitement of this gripping fare live via tweet review.
