Not A Big Financial Task For Venky And Varun

Share

To cash on the Sankranthi season, producer Dil Raju has carefully placed his latest film “F2: Fun and Frustration” after two big releases. And the failure of those two big films to capture the market might help F2 big time now.

In that scenario, if we have to talk about the kind of business F2 did, actually, most of the film is being released by Dil Raju on his own. Such is the confidence on this project which is carved as a pure comic caper by director Anil Ravipudi. However, if we have to calculate the film’s theatrical rights, there is a figure here.

On a whole F2 has to collect 33 crores share, as trade pundits have valued the theatrical rights of the movie at that range. In the recent times, Venkatesh’s films are getting decent collections due to quality factor, while Varun Tej recently scored big with Fidaa and Tholiprema though Antariksham disappointed him.

So it will not be a daunting task with Venkatesh, Varun Tej, Tamanna and Mehreen in the leads to reap that 33 crores from the box office, provided with the fact that the film is not a dud. Let’s see what happens.

Why Charan Didn’t Think Twice For This?

Share

At a time when back to back mass films like Bruce Lee spoiled his image, Ram Charan took a break from the routine and carefully planned his next films. But then, one mistake could spoil the whole show and pour water in his creative dreams.

After coming out with films like Dhruva and Rangasthalam, Ram Charan has surely created immense respect for himself. Many started valuing him more as an actor and then as someone who would go any far for the sake of a film’s story. Also, his down to earth and natural portrayals in those films won him some newer audiences too.

But with the mega decision of starring in a film like Vinaya Vidheya Rama is going to haunt Ram Charan big time now. Though he has RRR in the arm right now, one would really get shocked to see how come a hero like Charan gave a go for a film like VVR. Neither there is a story, nor interesting scenes, nor any scope for acting, so what excited Charan when it comes to taking this film?

Some say that believing a director blindly will directly create cracks in the glass-palace like stardom of a star hero. This is Charan’s time now!

Petta Is The Best Rajinikanth Film In Years

Share

In what seems like an unwanted political intrusion in an out-and-out formulistic entertainer, Vijay Sethupathi—who has a pivotal role to play in propelling the plot forward—is attacked in a cowshed by goons who accuse him of being a beef carrier.

Well, to be honest, Sethupathi does have quite a beefy role. In fact it’s the most powerfully written secondary part I’ve seen in any recent Rajinikanth starrer. Seethupathi plays Jeetu, a sleazy hitman in Uttar Pradesh who ends up being horribly confused about his parentage. In fact the script turns his parentage into a bit of a savage joke.

But director Karthik Subbaraj knows when to pull back the punches. He lets the 3-hour marathon masala fare roll on like a steamroller that knows exactly how to run its course without plundering any of the tropes in a Rajinikanth starrer. Petta is a film that satiates both the Rajini devotees and the non-devotees. While it harks back to his most famous screen avatars it gives a fresh fecund flavourful twist to every manoeuvre that brings the plot closer to its nemesis.

To begin with Rajini is a boisterous hostel warden who plays Uncle Cupid to a young couple. While aiding the courtship Rajini falls in love with a spiritual hero(Simran, looking lovely). This part of the film is light to the touch, frothy and tantalizing in a cute kind of way.

In the second half the plot simply takes off, creating a badland of bloodshed and retribution where bullets and bombs pelt down in a devastating tale of caste and communal wars. The clannish violence is cannily constructed to highlight Rajinikanth’s stage-capturing image. He has never looked so young in the past decade. He performs the action sequences and the dances with a disarming relish and his character doesn’t shy away from killing the enemies.

It all adds up to a visually rich drama replete with twists and turns that are not only unforeseen but also deftly written to accentuate Rajinikanth’s image. And yes, Nawazuddin Siddiqui makes a formidable adversary . The confrontations between the two leading to a bloodied finale leaves no room for the audiences to exhale.

When was the last time I had so much fun watching a Rajinikanth film? The last few years topped by the appalling 2:0 last month have been pretty abysmal . Pehaps the Thalaiva, as he’s called by his devotees, had begun to take himself too seriously in his recent films.

In Petta Rajini doesn’t allow his swagger to be weighed down by responsibilities. A genuine sense of fun runs through the taut plot. Except for a few stretches where the director seems to lose grip(for instance the early scenes in the hostel are way too flighty ) this tale of a father-figure fighting to save a young boy (Sananth Sethi) from murderous enemies is just what the Rajinikanth image needed at this juncture.

Naidu’s Anti-BJP Front A Futile Exercise?

Share

Even as Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has failed to muster much support to his anti-Congress, anti-Bharatiya Janata Party front of regional parties, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is also making a futile attempt to build up an anti-BJP front at the national level.

While Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee did not evince much interest in the federal front plan of KCR, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati have also made it clear that they have no interest in joining hands with the Congress party.

The SP and BSP came to an understanding in seat sharing in Uttar Pradesh for the ensuring Lok Sabha elections and expressed confidence that they would win majority of Lok Sabha seats in UP.“We got our maths right in the UP. We shall defeat the BJP. There is no need for the Congress,” Akhilesh Yadav said on Friday.

So, Naidu’s attempts to convince SP and BSP to join the grand alliance failed. Naveen Patnaik has already made it clear that he won’t join the alliance.Mamata also want to go it alone in West Bengal. JD (U) is unreliable, as it might dump Congress and join hands with the BJP any time. So, only DMK chief M K Stalin is left with Naidu.

The other smaller parties like NCP and National Conference are already with the Congress and there is no need for Naidu to make any special efforts. So, what is he trying to prove by making a hungama in Delhi saying he is bringing all parties under one umbrella against BJP?“It is just a show put-up. And once Naidu loses elections in AP, no other party will care about him,” a BJP leader said.

KCR To Break NTR Record!

Share

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is going to create a new record on Sunday when he completes one month in office for the second successive term.

The record is that the Telangana chief minister has been running the government without having a full-fledged cabinet for more than 30 days.

KCR was sworn-in as the chief minister on December 13 and he would be completing one month on Saturday.

Though he has taken just one cabinet minister – Mohammad Mahmud Ali and gave him the home portfolio, there is nothing much for him to do. So, virtually, there is no cabinet of KCR in Telangana for the last 30 days.

It is unlikely that the cabinet will be expanded before January 18. It means, KCR would be running the show without full-fledged cabinet for over 35 days.

In that, KCR has broken a three-decade old record of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh and Telugu Desam Party founder-president N T Rama Rao, who had run the government without cabinet for 31 days!

No rest for Jagan even after padayatra?

Share

It looks like YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is not going to take rest for some time, even after completing the marathon 3,680 km long padayatra in the name of Praja Sankalpa Yatra, aimed at bringing down the alleged corrupt Chandrababu Naidu government.

Jagan, who had a darshan of Lord Venkateshwara in Tirumala on Wednesday, is understood to have chalked out yet another yatra – this time by bus, to tour the constituencies which he could not cover during the padayatra.

The schedule for his bus yatra would also be finalised at the earliest, party sources said.

He wants to wind it up quickly in the next one month, so that the party would be ready for the battle when the election schedule is announced in the last week of February.

Jagan also wants to complete the task of finalizing the party candidates to all assembly constituencies.

During the padayatra, Jagan ascertained the party strengths and weaknesses and also the prospective candidates of the party to contest the elections.

The YSR Congress leader will announce the candidates of the assembly segments of Kadapa district first. He will hold a meeting with Kapada leaders soon.

In 2014 elections, the YSR Congress won 9 assembly and 2 Lok Sabha seats. The party is still strong in Kadapa, party sources said.

‘Path to citizenship’ could be coming soon: Trump to H-1B holders

Share

US president Donald Trump on Friday said major changes are coming to the H1-B visa programme of which Indian IT professional and Indian IT firms have been the single largest beneficiary.

Trump said that the new approach will bring both “simplicity and certainty” and lead to a more direct path to citizenship.

The H1-B visa allows US companies to hire foreign workers in some skilled occupations. The programme has been under scrutiny and mounting restrictions since Trump took office and unveiled his “Buy America, Hire America” vision to encourage local manufacturing and local employment.

“H1-B holders in the United States can rest assured that changes are soon coming which will bring both simplicity and certainty to your stay, including a potential path to citizenship,” the president wrote on Twitter Friday.

“We want to encourage talented and highly skilled people to pursue career options in the US”.Trump did not offer specifics on what changes he plans to make to the H1-B visa programme, and no timeline.

Purandeswari To Join YCP?

Share

Strong buzz doing rounds in political circles is that Daggubati Purandeswari would soon quit BJP and would join Jagan’s YSRCP. Talk is that Daggubati family is in touch with Jagan and is holding deliberations. As part of the talks, Purandeswari has been offered Visakhapatnam parliament seat. However, Purandeswari said to have expressed her interest in either Narasaraopet parliament seat or Guntur parliament seat to contest from YCP.

Learning about Purandeswari’s political plans, BJP state chief Kanna Lakshminarayana has stepped in and tried to pacify her. On the other hand, Purandeswari’s son Hitesh Chenchuram is keen on contesting on YCP ticket. He is expecting Parchur Assembly constituency. Daggubati Venkateswara Rao has also made ground to join YCP.

Meanwhile, TDP’s Nara Lokesh and Nara Brahmani also stepped in to action. Considering good rapport with Hitesh, Lokesh and Brahmani said to have offered Hitesh and Daggubati clan to join TDP. With this, both TDP and YCP camps have become quite active and is doing their best to rope in Daggubati family.

Looks like, BJP is at the receiving end. After Rajahmundry MP Akula Satyanarayana’s resignation, if Purandeswari too joins the bandwagon, it’d have a telling effect on party.

Pics: Lakshmi Parvathi & Chandrababu of ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’

Director Ram Gopal Varma has revealed the actors who are going to play Lakshmi Parvathi and Nara Chandrababu Naidu in his upcoming movie ‘Lakshmi’s NTR.’

Kannada actress Yagna Shetty will reprise Lakshmi Parvathi whereas actor Sritej will be seen as Chandrababu Naidu.

RGV also shared pictures of the duo and added both the characters are very important in the movie. Surprisingly, actor Sritej was last seen in ‘NTR – Kathanayakudu’ as YS Rajasekhar Reddy. It’s a rare opportunity for this upcoming actor and one of its kind to essay two politicians.

While Yagna Shetty featured in RGV’s ‘Killing Veerappan’ movie.’Lakshmi’s NTR’ is nearly based on politician and NTR’s second wife Lakshmi Parvathi’s book.
