“Canada Updates PGWP Rules to Align with Labour Market Needs”

Share

Effective June 25, 2025, Canada has implemented significant changes to its Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program as part of a broader initiative to better align international education pathways with national labour market demands. These updates involve a comprehensive revision of eligible study fields and reflect Canada’s 2025 Express Entry priorities, which emphasize addressing long-term workforce shortages.

As part of the reforms, 178 non-degree study fields have been removed from PGWP eligibility, while 119 new fields—primarily in health care, social services, education, and skilled trades—have been added. These changes impact non-degree programs, such as diplomas and certificates. To be eligible for a PGWP, graduates of such programs must now complete studies in a field directly linked to occupations experiencing labour shortages.

Degree programs—bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral—remain unaffected by these field-of-study restrictions and continue to be fully eligible for the PGWP.

With these revisions, the total number of PGWP-eligible fields stands at 920.

Applicability
The new eligibility criteria apply to students who submit a study permit application on or after November 1, 2024. For these students, the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code for their field of study must appear on the eligible list either:

At the time of their study permit application, or

At the time of their PGWP application.

Exemptions
The field-of-study restrictions do not apply if:

You applied for a PGWP before November 1, 2024;

You completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree;

You graduated from a PGWP-eligible flight school;

You submitted your study permit application before November 1, 2024.

Additionally, students already enrolled in programs and whose study permits were submitted before June 25, 2025, will be assessed based on the eligibility list in effect at the time of their application. This ensures that no retroactive penalties are applied to ongoing students.

Conclusion
These targeted reforms aim to better position international graduates for long-term success in Canada by ensuring their education aligns with in-demand career paths. Prospective students are strongly advised to consult the updated list of PGWP-eligible CIP codes before applying for study permits or enrolling in non-degree programs.

Anushka Shetty Likely to Join Kaithi 2 Cast

Share

The excitement around Kaithi 2 is steadily building, with Karthi all set to reprise his iconic role as Dilli. But what’s really driving the current frenzy is the strong buzz suggesting that Anushka Shetty might be joining the sequel. The rumors have sparked lively discussion across social media, especially with the idea of her playing Dilli’s wife — a role described as bold, emotionally grounded, and crucial to the story.

The speculation began following a report by Asianet, which hinted that Anushka’s character would be far more than a mere supporting role. While there’s been no official confirmation from the filmmakers, fans are already imagining the powerful dynamic she could bring to the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).

Adding more weight to the anticipation are reports that Kamal Haasan and Suriya might return as Vikram and Rolex, continuing the shared universe that began with Kaithi and expanded in Vikram. If these pieces fall into place, Kaithi 2 could go beyond being a simple sequel and emerge as one of South Indian cinema’s most ambitious crossover events.

Anushka and Karthi’s on-screen chemistry has already been tested in films like Alex Pandian, with the actress also featuring in Saguni and Thozha. Their past collaborations were marked by a dynamic energy that could now evolve into something deeper and more emotionally charged in Kaithi 2, adding personal stakes to Dilli’s intense journey.

Meanwhile, Anushka isn’t waiting on just one project. She’s gearing up for her next release, Ghaati, scheduled to hit theatres on July 11, 2025. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and co-starring Vikram Prabhu, the film explores the gritty world of cannabis smuggling through the story of a woman who is pulled into the trade and rises to infamy.

Whether or not she steps into Kaithi 2, one thing is clear — Anushka Shetty continues to shape a powerful and unpredictable career, quietly redefining her screen presence with each new role.

Vijay Antony Eyes Telugu Comeback with Music and Direction

Share

Tamil actor and music composer Vijay Antony is set to return to the big screen with his upcoming crime thriller Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan, also known as Morgan. The film is directed by Leo John Paul, a former editor making his directorial debut. Slated for release on June 27, the movie is produced under the Vijay Antony Film Corporation banner by the actor himself.

As part of the film’s promotions, Vijay Antony interacted with Telugu media, sharing several intriguing insights. He expressed his admiration for the Telugu audience, stating they always support films with strong content. Drawing a parallel to his blockbuster Bichagadu, he confidently claimed Morgan too has the potential to become a major hit.

Vijay Antony emphasized that he personally involves himself in every aspect of his films—from script selection to character understanding—before committing to a project. He also revealed that he is currently committed to six upcoming films.

When asked about his directorial plans, Vijay Antony confirmed that his next directorial venture will be Bichagadu 3, scheduled for a Summer 2027 release. He promised that the third installment will be markedly different from the first two.

On the music front, he admitted that his focus on acting in recent years led him to give less attention to music composition. However, he plans to shift his focus back to music post the release of Pichaikkaran 2 (Bhadra Kali in Tamil).

During the media interaction, a journalist reminded him of his past music work in Telugu films like Mahatma and Daruvu and asked which Telugu hero he would like to compose for now. Vijay Antony smiled and turned the question around, asking them to suggest a name. The journalist promptly mentioned Jr. NTR and said fans would love to see him compose for Telugu films again.

Responding to this, Vijay Antony expressed confidence in his ability to deliver music for big star films. He noted that while his own movies may lack the mass scale needed for high-energy tracks like item songs or commercial hits, he definitely has the capability to create such music when working with mass-market stars. He assured that after Bhadra Kali, he will be giving more focus to music composition again.

Kamal Haasan and Ayushmann Join Oscars Voting Panel

Share

The prestigious Oscars ceremony is set to take place in March next year, and preparations are already underway. As part of the process, the Academy has finalized the committee for the voting phase. Notably, Indian actors Kamal Haasan and Ayushmann Khurrana have been invited to join the global voting panel, marking a proud moment for Indian cinema.

Both actors have received official invitations to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). They will now play a role in the Oscar nomination and final voting process alongside several prominent Hollywood personalities.

The Academy recently released the list of newly invited members for 2024, which includes not just Kamal Haasan and Ayushmann Khurrana, but also Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia and acclaimed fashion designer Maxima Basu. These members will now be eligible to vote in selecting the final list of Oscar-nominated films.

This year, the Academy extended invitations to a total of 534 new members, with a significant 44% of them being women. The new members were selected from 19 different categories, including actors, directors, technical experts, and producers. The Academy expressed pride in welcoming such a diverse and talented group.

The 2025 Oscars ceremony will be held on March 15, with the nomination process scheduled between January 12 and 16, followed by the official announcement of final nominations on January 22. With several high-profile films in contention, the upcoming Oscars are expected to be a grand and competitive event.

Telegram Bot Sells Indians’ Personal Data for ₹99

Share

A disturbing new investigation has uncovered a Telegram bot that is brazenly selling highly sensitive personal data of Indian citizens—including Aadhaar numbers, PAN card details, voter IDs, and residential addresses—for as little as ₹99. First reported by Digit, the bot operates openly on the encrypted messaging platform, allowing users to retrieve comprehensive personal profiles by simply entering a 10-digit mobile number.

The investigation revealed that the bot delivers results within seconds, offering full names, father’s names, alternate contact numbers, current and previous addresses, and even scanned identity documents. The pricing model starts at ₹99 per individual request and scales up to ₹4,999 for bulk or unlimited monthly access, making the service disturbingly affordable and accessible.

To verify the authenticity of the data, the publication tested the bot using mobile numbers belonging to its editorial team. The results were accurate and up to date, in some cases reflecting information from just three to four years ago. While the precise source of the leak remains unclear, experts suspect it may be linked to historic breaches involving telecom providers, fintech applications, and public utilities.

Telegram bots are a standard feature and can be developed by anyone to automate tasks or integrate services. However, the misuse of this capability to facilitate large-scale privacy violations exposes a serious gap in oversight and moderation on encrypted platforms.

Grave Implications for Privacy and Security
Cybersecurity experts warn that such tools can be exploited for a wide range of malicious activities including:

Identity Theft

SIM Swapping

Fraudulent KYC Verification

Financial Scams

Harassment and Impersonation

With personal information so readily available, threat actors can easily impersonate individuals to gain unauthorized access to bank accounts, commit fraud, or exploit social engineering vulnerabilities.

This incident also revives concerns following the massive data breach reported earlier this year, where over 16 billion credentials were found circulating online. It underscores a harsh reality: in the digital age, personal privacy is becoming increasingly elusive.

The Need for Urgent Regulatory Action
Despite recurring concerns about Telegram being used for piracy, illegal drug sales, and now data trade, enforcement and regulatory action remain minimal. The availability of such bots with little to no oversight raises critical questions about platform accountability, data protection enforcement, and the adequacy of India’s cybersecurity framework.

How to Safeguard Your Data
In light of this alarming development, citizens are urged to take proactive steps to protect their digital identities:

Lock your Aadhaar via the official UIDAI portal

Avoid using unverified apps and websites

Never share OTPs or personal data over phone calls

Be alert to suspicious SIM porting or KYC requests

Audit your digital footprint regularly

Report incidents via the national cybercrime helpline (1930) or cybercrime.gov.in

This episode highlights the critical need for stronger data protection laws, stringent enforcement mechanisms, and responsible platform governance. Until then, the onus remains on individuals to remain vigilant and take every possible measure to secure their personal information—because in today’s digital marketplace, your identity can be traded for less than the cost of a cup of coffee.

Kannappa Review: A Flawed Epic Redeemed by a Powerful Climax

Share

When Manchu Vishnu first announced Kannappa, it was clear he was embarking on the most ambitious project of his career. With a mythological subject at its core, a high production budget, a celebrated TV director at the helm, and star-studded cameos from Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Akshay Kumar — expectations were understandably high. After years in development and extensive buzz, Kannappa finally made its way to theatres.

Does it live up to the monumental expectations? Partially. While Kannappa fumbles in its narrative structure and emotional depth early on, it redeems itself with a gripping final act filled with devotion, drama, and divine presence.

Plot Summary:
Set against the lush backdrops of tribal India, Kannappa tells the tale of Thinna (Manchu Vishnu), a fierce atheist and the son of tribal chieftain Nathanathudu (Sarathkumar). When the tyrannical Gandhara king, Kalamukudu, sets his eyes on the sacred Vayu Lingam, chaos brews in the peaceful forest dwellings. In the face of impending war, the five tribal clans unite. Amidst this, Thinna undergoes a profound transformation — from a non-believer to an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. This metamorphosis, catalyzed by divine encounters with Rudra (Prabhas) and others, forms the crux of the narrative.

Performances:

  • Manchu Vishnu delivers a mixed performance — initially stiff, but gradually growing into his role. He shines brightly in the emotionally charged climax, delivering his career-best work in the final act.
  • Mohan Babu, though limited in screen time, leaves a mark with his commanding presence and impactful dialogues.
  • Prabhas as Rudra is a scene-stealer. His role, though brief, is pivotal and emotionally powerful. His monologues and spiritual dialogue delivery give the film its much-needed momentum.
  • Mohanlal offers grace in his short appearance, lending weight to the mid-section of the film.
  • Akshay Kumar embodies Lord Shiva with a serene, dignified presence. His cameo, though short, is effective.
  • Preity Mukhundhan, as Nemali, delivers a decent performance but her character is undermined by an unnecessarily glamorized romantic track. The sensual portrayal feels misplaced in an otherwise devotional narrative.
  • Kajal Aggarwal as Parvati is passable, while several supporting actors offer inconsistent performances — with Madhoo’s over-the-top expressions standing out for the wrong reasons.

Technical Aspects:

  • Music by Stephen Devassy is undoubtedly one of the film’s greatest strengths. His background score elevates emotional moments, especially in the climax. The devotional songs are spiritually resonant.
  • Cinematography by Sheldon Chau captures the grandeur of nature — particularly the forest landscapes of New Zealand — with finesse.
  • Editing could have been far crisper. The film drags in several places, particularly in the first half, and suffers from uneven pacing.
  • Dubbing is a noticeable weak link. Many non-Telugu actors’ dialogues feel disjointed and disrupt the emotional rhythm.
  • Production Design is refreshingly naturalistic, though some might miss the grandeur of sets typically seen in mythological dramas.

What Works:

  • Impactful final 30 minutes
  • Strong cameos from Prabhas, Mohanlal & Akshay Kumar
  • Musical score that supports spiritual depth
  • Manchu Vishnu’s emotionally honest performance in the climax

What Doesn’t:

  • Weak and lengthy first half
  • Forced romantic subplot with excessive glamor
  • Lack of emotional engagement early on
  • Jarring dubbing and uneven acting from the ensemble cast
  • Underdeveloped character arcs for several key roles

Verdict:
Kannappa is an earnest attempt at reviving a timeless tale of devotion with modern cinematic language. While it struggles with tonal inconsistency, a weak first half, and misplaced romance, it finds its footing in the final act. The emotionally charged climax, bolstered by stirring performances and powerful music, elevates the film to a respectable devotional drama.

For those willing to look past its flaws, Kannappa offers a spiritually fulfilling experience — especially in its closing stretch.

Bottom Line:
A flawed mythological epic saved by a powerful finale. Stay patient, and you’ll find moments worth remembering.

Mohan Babu Joins Nani’s Paradise for a Key Role

Share

Natural Star Nani is currently gearing up for what is touted to be the most ambitious project of his career — Paradise. The film is in its pre-production stage, with the casting team working diligently to lock in the key roles.

In a surprising and exciting development, Kannappa director Mukesh Kumar Singh has revealed a major update about Paradise. According to him, veteran actor Mohan Babu is all set to play a crucial role in Nani’s upcoming film. He added that Mohan Babu is extremely enthusiastic about the character and is already preparing for the role with great dedication.

Interestingly, Nani had reportedly seen select footage from Kannappa and was deeply impressed by Mohan Babu’s powerful screen presence. This appears to have influenced the team to bring the seasoned actor on board for Paradise.

What makes this collaboration even more special is that the film’s narrative seems tailor-made to offer a substantial and impactful role for a veteran like Mohan Babu. His inclusion adds significant weight to the cast, and this unique pairing of a legendary star with a current-generation favorite like Nani is expected to be one of the film’s standout features.

With such an intriguing mix of talent, Paradise is shaping up to be a highly promising cinematic venture that is sure to generate strong anticipation among fans.
