The Telangana Congress party on Monday alleged that the printing of pattadar passbooks to be issued to farmers smacked of a big scam worth over Rs 85 crore.
According to TPCC president Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy, the government had entrusted the job of printing passbooks to preferred private printers at a rate of Rs 160 per passbook, though the state-run security printing press had come forward to do it for just Rs 50.
“When we questioned the same in the assembly, KCR said the passbooks would be of waterproof quality and they were tamper proof. But the passbooks now being issued to farmers are neither water proof nor tamper proof. Moreover, he said there would be 26 features in the passbook, but they have been reduced to 18 features,” he said.
Uttam alleged that even the printers who had absolutely no experience and were blacklisted in other states, were given the contract for printing passbooks.
“The government security printing press at Mint Compound, which has four printing units has been ignored.
The general manager of the government press wrote a letter to the state government that the printing of passbooks by the private presses was faulty and that the state press would not take any responsibility if there was any goof-up in the work.
He also said the government security press was withdrawing from bidding,” he said.
Even in the distribution of passbooks, the government had totally bungled.
“First, the chief minister said the passbooks would be distributed from January 26. Later, he said he would invite President of India or Prime Minister for the distribution on March 11. But now, they say it would be done on May 10,” the PCC chief criticised.
The announcement made by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to rename Krishna district as NTR district in the name of legendary actor and Telugu Desam Party founder N T Rama Rao has pushed the TDP leadership to a corner.
The TDP leaders sought to create a controversy over the issue, questioning the moral credentials of Jagan to use NTR’s name.
There were contradictory statements from ministers – one said the TDP government was already considering the proposal to rename Krishna district as NTR district, while another minister said Jagan was only playing to the gallery to create confusion among the TDP cadre. The TDP also tried to prove others against Jagan.
A section of farmers’ association leaders and party leaders opposed Jagan’s move, stating that the district got its name from the holy river of Krishna which had made the area fertile with its waters. They vehemently opposed dropping the name of the river from the district.
On Monday, controversial transgender actor Tamanna also opposed Jagan’s proposal. She demanded that the district should be named after famous Kapu leader late Vangaveeti Ranga and even took up a silent protest near his statue in Vijayawada.
However, Jagan has the masterstroke to counter all these attacks from the TDP and its supporters. It is learnt soon after coming to power, he would reorganise the state into 20 districts from the existing 13 districts.
As part of that, Gudivada or Machilipatnam would become a new district and since Nimmakuru, the birthplace of NTR would fall in the new district, it would be named as NTR district.
So, original Krishna district including Vijayawada and Krishna delta region would remain as it is. This would not only satisfy NTR fans, but also those who are opposing dropping of Krishna river name from the district!
It appears the noose is gradually tightening around Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in cash-for-vote case.
According to latest reports doing rounds in the media circles, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has been protecting his Andhra Pradesh counterpart all these years, has given nod to the Anti-Corruption Bureau authorities to expedite the case and prosecute Naidu.
It is learnt Governor E S L Narasimhan, who made a brief visit to New Delhi last week, submitted a complete dossier to the Centre on the cash-for-vote case along with evidences collected against Naidu.
The top bosses in Delhi reportedly told Narasimhan to prevail upon KCR to expedite the ACB case against Naidu, failing which it would have to open the CBI cases against the Telangana chief minister as well.
Soon after his return from Delhi, the Governor called KCR to Raj Bhavan and explained the situation. Though reluctant, KCR was forced to agree to speed up the case against Naidu.
Accordingly, he reportedly issues orders to the ACB authorities. Moreover, it would help the Telangana chief minister to settle scores with Kodangal MLA A Revanth Reddy, who had become thorn in his flesh.
However, the Telangana ACB authorities would go cautiously in dealing with the case as it involved the chief minister of the neighbouring state.
It has to follow the procedures as per the Constitutional norms before considering arrest of Naidu or others, say sources.
After waging war against sexual harassment in the movie industry and bringing the serious topic on to the mainstream discussion, actress Sri Reddy had started sounding as if she lacks sense.
Her recent Facebook posts and Tweets are more like attention seeking attempts than anything else.
She recently held a press meet in Press Club threatening to take legal action on trollers and also said that she would drag the names of actor Nani and director Sekhar Kammula but no one took her serious.
Because in the past she said she made allegations against Sekhar Kammula to seek the attention of her followers. So, media had not started taking her serious.
Yet, she has not stopped tweeting against Tollywood biggies. In her recent Facebook posts she said that theaters are in the grip of four “mafia” celebrities – Suresh Babu, Allu Aravind, Sunil Narang and Dil Raju.
She even slammed Roja as she said there is no casting couch. “Probably they didn’t find you attractive to approach you,” she posted on FB.
She now tweets against ‘Natural Star’ Nani accusing that he made life of a girl hell. Her Facebook posts and Tweets are like mud-slinging posts without any proofs.
With just one day left for wedding of Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja, whole Bollywood is busy with Mehendi and Sangeet ceremonies. Kapoors residence is all full with celebs visits and decorations.
Many stars joined the Mehendi ceremony and here are the beautiful cousins of Sonam Kapoor, Jhanvi and Khushi. Jhanvi kapoor looked elegant and beautiful in gorgeous ethnic wear probably designed by Manish Malhotra. The sisters are stealing the show at cousin’s pre-wedding festivities.
In a significant development, the Supreme Court has transferred the sensational Kathua gangrape and murder case outside Jammu and Kashmir. The case has been transferred to Pathankot in Punjab. A bench headed by the Chief Justice Dipak Misra directed that the trial should be held in-camera, be fast-tracked and conducted on a day-to-day basis to avoid any delay.
This is after the apex court had earlier given a stern warning and said it would transfer the Kathua gangrape-and-murder case from the local court in the “slightest possibility” of lack of fair trial, saying the “real concern” was to hold proper prosecution.
The top court also said the trial would be carried out in accordance with the provisions of Ranbir Penal Code, which is applicable in Jammu and Kashmir. The apex court said the trial must be fair to the victim’s family as well as the accused. It also ordered continuation of security to the family members of the victim, family friends and lawyer representing them and directed translation of statements and records of the case from Urdu to English.
The victim, an eight-year-old girl from a minority nomadic community, had disappeared from near her home in a village close to Kathua in the Jammu region on January 10. Her body was found in the same area a week later. The girl’s father had moved the apex court earlier, apprehending threat to the family, their friend and their lawyer Deepika Singh Rajawat.
A separate plea was also filed by two accused seeking that the trial in the case be held in Jammu and the probe handed over to the CBI. The state police’s Crime Branch, which probed the case, filed the main charge sheet against seven persons and a separate charge sheet against a juvenile in a court in Kathua district last week. The charge sheet has revealed chilling details about how the girl was allegedly kidnapped, drugged and raped inside a place of worship before being killed.
South India’s first-ever biopic, Mahanati, is doing a lot of noise for the last few days. Apart from the film’s prominent cast including Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverekonda, Samantha, Mohan Babu, Rajendra Prasad, director Krish, Tarun Bhascer and more, here is the inside buzz about the film.
Apparently, the key highlight of the film is its climax episode. Director Nag Ashwin said to have conceived 8-minute-long emotional climax sequence for Mahanati and it said to have shaped up quite well. Samantha, who is playing the role of Madhuravani, a journalist and a documentary filmmaker, said to have turned quite emotional while shooting the sequence.
According to sources close to the film’s unit, there is a one particular scene in the climax which is Sam’s favourite. In fact, this is the scene that forced Sam to take up the role. Even during the narration of the scene, Sam apparently got teary-eyed. The shooting of the scene is also said to be an emotional experience to Samantha.
Sweet Promotions
Meanwhile, the film’s promotions are bringing huge buzz on the film. The makers have distributed specially made cashew sweet box to the industry people and film journos. And it has a Savitri connection to it. Savitri was fond of cashew sweets. This is why the makers of Mahanati are distributing cashew sweet boxes to the film fraternity.
Sushanth might have had a tumultuous phase. But the teaser of ‘Chi La Sow’ wipes out all those bad memories and gives a fresh feel. Thanks to actor-turned-director Rahul Ravindran, whose directorial debut ‘Chi La Sow’ has a feel-good feel laced with breezy romance.
Tipped to be a youthful entertainer laced with fun element, the film revolves around impending wedding of Chiranjeevi Arjun played by Sushanth. Whilst Arjun is a die-hard fan of Salman Khan and an ardent devotee of Lord Hanuman, he wants to follow their suit by remaining bachelor in his life – opposing marriage. Though his mother wants him to get married, he keeps passing the buck.
Arjun has a bestie (Vennela Kishore) who is also unmarried but his problem is different as no girl seems to be interested in him. Will cupid strike Arjun? Who is that one girl that changes Arjun’s mind and fate? It has been kept under the wraps.
Prashanth R Vihari, who composed for Vellipomakey and Mental Madhilo, has impressed with his background music. The teaser is interesting. One has to wait and see whether Sushanth break his jinx or not.
Almost all the star heroes work hard to get their characters on the silver screen sound perfect, but among them, this hero goes an extra mile to make sure that he’s banging on target. He’s none other than Stylish Star Allu Arjun.
Looking at Naa Peru Surya, one could easily identify the hardships he went through to bring life to soldier Surya’s character. From carving out a tough physique to coming up with a new hairdo, from taking physical risks for certain scenes to torturing himself to smoke that heavy cigar, Allu Arjun delivered his best. At the same time, the way he practised those cap-tricks for Lover Also Fighter Also song are amazing.
But the problem is, only himself delivered the best and carried the film on his shoulders, while the writer-director played a safe game. Needless to say, our directors and writers should stop writing some routine and spineless stories for such a hardworking hero. His last three films including Sarrainodu, DJ and Naa Peru Surya prove that wrecked stories are taking a toll on the hard work he does.
For example, if Bunny’s similar tough grind is complemented by a story like that of Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Identity” series, or a Tom Cruise in “Jack Reacher” like films, imagine the box office rage he’s going to create. It’s high time writers realise the potential of Stylish Star and come up with new-age engaging stories for him. Let’s see who is going to give such film to Allu Arjun.
In the film “Bharat Anu Nenu”, versatile actor Prakash Raj played the role of a chief head of a party and calls all the shots from within his house. In one scene, he even slaps a CB CID officer who is investigating a high profile disproportionate assets case. Those acts are irking him now.
These days after being politically active with his own comments on Narendra Modi and BJP, he is talk of the town. The other day when Prakash Raj attended a conclave held by a TV channel, a retired police officer irked the actor by saying that he could slap whoever he wants on the silver screen. At the same time, the IPS also slipped words that directors found a good villain in Prakash Raj. The actor retorted to this saying, “They found a good actor in me, not a villain. How dare you say that. Learn how to speak!!”.
While the show moderator didn’t allow the IPS officer to speak any further, Prakash Raj also got stunned to see why Bharat Ane Nenu or his film roles are being brought to discussions. “Don’t try to castigate me by the roles I play in the films” he’s heard uttering while confirming that the questioner has no moral right to ask him anything, as he doesn’t know how to talk.
The questioner might have tried to ask on why Prakash Raj slapped a police on the silver screen when he preaches so many morals and ideologies in real life. Well, once again the answer is clear, cinema is for entertainment and nothing should be taken seriously.
