Complete Ban On Garuda Vega’s Screenings

Share

In an unexpected twist, the City Civil Court has ordered a total ban on the public screenings of Rajasekhar’s comeback movie ‘PSV Garuda Vega 126.18M’ at least 6 months after its theatrical release. The court has sent notices to Garuda Vega’s director and producer and YouTube India, asking them to not screen the movie anywhere including theatrical and digital exhibition.

The judgement came after a petition filed against the movie by the Uranium Corporation of India (UCI). The UCI lawyers argued that the movie had portrayed the UCI in poor light. The UCI is a subsidiary of the Government of India’s Department of Atomic Energy.

The UCI alleged that Garuda Vega’s story is about how a National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer (played by Rajasekhar) unearths a huge Uranium and Thorium scam at the UCI’s Thummalapalli Uranium plant. The petition mentioned that the film portrayed that the Thummalapalli constituency’s MLA, Home Minister Central Home Ministry officials and UCI Chairman were part of the scam. The next hearing will be after 4 weeks.

Avasarala Accepts ‘Mega’ Challenge

Share

We had already reported that the background work to launch Sai Dharam Tekj’s younger brother, Vaishnav Tej as a hero in the Telugu film industry had been in progress. Noted producer Sai Korrapati of Vaarahi Productions was assigned with the responsibility of giving a credible launch to Tej.

The latest we hear is that the makers have finalized the director to launch Tej. And, he is actor-cum-director Avasarala Srinvas.

Avasarala made his directorial debut with the successful rom-com, ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’. His next film was, ‘Jyo Achyuthananda’, which did reasonably well. Both the films were bankrolled by Vaarahi. Korrapati and Avasarala were supposed collaborate again for one more film, and Nani was supposed to play the lead.

However, as the Nani-starrer kept getting delayed, Avasarala pitched another youthful entertainer to Korrapati, who then took the subject to Vaishav Tej, and got a go ahead. The pre-production work is currently in progress and an official announcement is expected soon.

Avasarala knows that launching a hero from ‘Mega’ family, which has already produced more than half a dozen heroes, is a tough challenge as there will be the burden of expectations and significant criticism too. And, he is game for the challenge.

Vaishnav has already got trained in acting and dances. It is heard that he took training in martial arts too, on the advice of his uncle, Pawan Kalyan.

Kidambi Srikanth: 1st Indian Male Shuttler To Become World No.1

Share

In a proud moment, Indian badminton champion Kidambi Srikanth scripted history by becoming world number 1 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings on Thursday. Srikanth is the first Indian male shuttler to clinch the top rank. In the women’s category, Saina Nehwal had occupied the no. 1 slot in 2015.

25-year-old Kidambi Srikanth replaced Denmark’s ace badminton player Viktor Axelsen with 76,895 points in men’s singles category. Srikanth clinched the mixed team gold in the ongoing Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and continues to be the hot favorite to win the gold medal.

Srikanth is the disciple of champion maker and former Indian badminton star Pullela Gopichand. Srikanth burst onto the world badminton scene with a win at the Thailand Open in 2013. He had won 4 Super Series titles last year. The Indian government honored Kidambi Srikanth with Padma Shri and Arjuna Award in 2018 and 2015 respectively.

US Premieres: KAY Collects Only Half of MCA!

Share

Natural Star Nani is inarguably the numero uno hero among Tier 2 cadre heroes. He has been steadily increasing his market with each film. Especially in the US, his films open to very huge numbers. But, the opening of his latest film, Krishnarjuna Yuddham (KAY) is a shocker to buyers.

As per reliable trade reports, KAY collected nearly USD 155K from US premieres. Shockingly, this figure is almost half of the premieres gross of Nani’s last release, MCA, which raked in a mammoth USD 304K. This shocking performance resulted despite KAY being Nani’s widest release in US yet.

Trade analysts reason that in the case of MCA, Dil Raju’s brand and Sai Pallavi popularity also contributed to record such a huge number from premiers. But, in the case of KAY, the only crowd pulling factor is Nani. Even his double action couldn’t fetch a big number like MCA.

For comparison, Nani’s non-MCA highest premieres – Nenu Local (160K) and Ninnu Kori (159K). So, KAY’s 155K is a decent figure if we ignore MCA. But, such massive drop when compared to the last release is worrying buyers, especially since the film has received below par talk.

Pic Talk: Bhumika with her cute son

Share

Almost every other news item surrounding Bhumika Chawla talks about her relationship with husband Bharat Thakur, who’s a renowned yoga guru. Are they happy together? Or are they not? Well, the couple that tied the knot in 2007, has kept us guessing throughout, even as they seem to be progressing happily in marital bliss. In fact, when she made her Bollywood comeback with M.S. Dhoni’s biopic, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, she had said in an interview that squabbles were common for any couple but insisted that they were happy.

And their happiness was, of course, doubled with the arrival of Thakur junior in 2014. Interestingly, during the filming of Allari Naresh’s Laddu Babu, in which Bhumika plays the lead role, the actress was pregnant with the little one. And the film was the Okkadu actress’ first release after she became a mother.

Of course, motherhood has had its blessing on Bhumika who is confessedly in the happiest phase of her life. She recently grabbed attention for her role in Nani’s MCA and has even been nominated for a few awards this season.

Priya Prakash’s Second Film Is Not A Telugu Project

Share

Wink sensation Priya Warrier is luring Telugu fans from a long time about her rumoured Telugu debut. After she broke the internet with her wink acts, many top producers from Tollywood are after her to get her onboard. But here is a bad news.

Though her debut Malayalam film “Oru Adaar Love” is getting dubbed into Telugu as well, she will not be making her straight debut anytime soon. Her second film in her career is going to be her debut film in Tamil if reports are to be believed. While her debut opposite Surya is just a rumour, here comes a big news.

According to the grapevine, director Nalan Kumarasamy who made films like Soodhu Kavvum, Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum is coming up with dark comedy crime thriller soon. Reports have that Nalan is planning this film with newcomers and he feels that Priya Warrier is the right choice.

It’s being said that an official announcement will be made in a couple of days in this regard. So expecting this internet sensation in a straight Telugu film will be taking some more time.

Krishnarjuna Yuddham Movie Review

Share

Nani has been unstoppable at box office with a row of hits starting from Bhale Bhale Magadivoy till MCA. Can he continue the streak with Krishnarjuna Yuddham directed by Merlakapaka Gandhi who delivered back to back hits?

Story :

Krishna (Nani) is a villager who is desperate to have a girlfriend. Arjun (Nani) is a rock star who is a Casanova. Krishna finds Riya (Rukhsar) a medico from Hyderabad and Arjun bumps into Subba Lakshmi (Anupama) who doesn’t even pay attention to him. Arjun transforms into a good person to win Subba Lakshmi’s heart. Krishna also succeeds in winning Riya’s heart. At that point both the girls get kidnapped by a woman trafficking racket. Now Krishna and Arjun unites to fight for their missing girlfriends.

Performances:

Nani enjoyed playing Krishna, who mouths dialogue in Chittoor accent. He is superb in comedy scenes and keeps the spirits alive in the first half with his timing. As a rockstar Nani couldn’t impress much. The swag and style associated with a rockstar is totally missing. Nani tried his best to penetrate into the masses with heavy duty action, but comedy and emotions seems to be his forte.

Anupama is alright in a one dimensional character. Rukshar has a camera friendly face and did okay as another female lead. Brahmaji offers some rib tickling moments as Arjun’s manager. Sudarshan, Mahesh and Prabhas Srinu are good in their respective roles.

Technicalities:

Merlapaka Gandhi has a very good sense of humor. His first two films Venkatadri Express and Express Raja did well because of rib tickling comedy. This time the director tries his hand at making a formulaic commercial film. He has once again proved his authority over comedy in KAY, but couldn’t succeed in delivering a satisfactory masala film on a whole. There are moments here and there that have come out well, but the film fails to deliver those knockout masala moments that click with the masses. Director has shown decent grip over proceedings until the first half, but failed to keep the interest alive in the action packed second half.

Hiphop Thamizha’s background music stands out. It elevates some of the weakest scenes too. However the soundtrack is pretty ordinary barring Daari Chudu song. Cinematography is neat and editing is fine. Production values are very good. It looked like a high budget film in every frame.

Thumbs Up:

  • Nani as Krishna
  • Comedy in first half
  • Background score

Thumbs Down:

  • Nani as Arjun
  • Action part in second half
  • Weak script

Analysis:

Krishnarjuna Yuddham is a typical commercial film covering all the essential elements like comedy, romance, action and emotion. Director Gandhi did his best to deliver a neatly packaged masala film, but lost grip on the proceedings midway. After a fairly entertaining first half aided with good humor and cute romance track of Krishna, the film gets very serious in the second half.

Both the heroines are kidnapped at the interval point and from there it is a never ending chase to track them down. There is a desperate attempt to incorporate comedy into this action zone and the director even took liberty to squeeze in a couple of songs. Despite that second half runs on a single note where both the ‘heroes’ are on a mission to track down their missing girlfriends. Even Nani who is capable to cover up the weaknesses of a film is left helpless at times.

The film’s USP is Krishna character that is extremely entertaining and almost single handedly runs the show in the first half. Director did a huge mistake by turning it emotional post interval. Woman trafficking issue is a serious one that didn’t let the film to get back into entertaining mode at any moment. Viewers that enjoyed the first half will be left hugely disappointed with the second half that hardly has any crowd pleasing moments and drags on forever.

Arjun’s character is not written well and Nani too looked under prepared to play it. Entire flirting episodes and his love track with Anupama are super boring as they were seen in many films earlier. This track only comes alive when Brahmaji is on screen with his splendid comedy timing. Krishna and his friends save the day in the first half with their funny antics and conversations. Daari Chudu song also comes at the right time to keep the spirits alive.

It could have been a passable commercial entertainer if the second half also continued that entertaining tone. With director going away from his comfort zone even Nani couldn’t do much in the second half thus making it the weakest of the actor’s recent outings. This film will be the true test for Nani’s crowd pulling capabilities.

Verdict: Double Dose of Routine Masala!

Allari Alludu Remix Song : Rakul or Kajal?

Share

Naga Chaitanya’s Savyasachi has been in the news ever since it is launched with director Chandoo Mondeti, of Premam and Karthikeya fame.

The latest buzz is that director Chandoo has convinced both Naga Chaitanya, Nagarjuna to have a remix song from the latter’s classic cult film Hello Brothers. The iconic song ‘Ninnu Roddu Meeda Chusinadi Lagayathu’ will be remixed for Chaitu’s Savyasachi. A hunt for a prominent star heroine is underway.

Apparently, director Chandoo has approached both Rakul Preet Singh and Kajal Aggarwal for the special song. As soon as either one of them gives nod, the song will be shot well.

Already, the film has ensemble cast. While Madhavan will be seen in a pivotal role in the film, Nidhhi Agerwal and Bhumika Chawla are playing significant roles. The makers are planning to release the film on June 14.

Comment: Telugu Audiences To Spend 700 Crores

Share

In the wake of Summer holidays, the biggest entertainment people will happy about is none other than cinema. That’s in the blood and genes of Telugu people who are known for their patronage of silver screen treats.

Apparently, the gamble of cinema is getting bigger now. Already Ram Charan’s Ragnasthalam became a rage at the box office and the film might end up collecting more than 200 crores with already 150+ crores gross up its sleeve. And if the likes of Mahesh’s Bharat Anu Nenu and Allu Arjun’s Naa Peru Surya also repeat the same feat, then 400 more crores of money will be spent by the audiences. That’s nearly a 600 crore spending from the Telugu audiences.

If we add other films like Krishnarjuna Yuddham, Achari America Yaatra, Mahanati, Mehbooba, Raju Gadu, Nela Ticket, Taxiwala and Officer, these films are likely to collect around 250 crores gross if all goes well. Even if the expectations go for a toss, Telugu audiences are likely to spend around 700 crores of gross easily to entertain themselves with movies.

Definitely, this is what holidays do to them and Telugu audiences always love to spend for films. But the onus lies on filmmakers to deliver some good films with entertaining content such that they will not get disappointed. As Rangasthalam started with a bang, hope others follow.

Nayakudu Shades On Sharwanand

Share

Kamal Haasan’s iconic film Nayakudu released in 1987 and it was a huge blockbuster. The gangster drama was loosely based on the Godfather series and Kamal’s noble mafialord’s role is still one of the best in his career.

Now, Sharwanand, who is well known for his intense and emotional performances, is said to be playing a role similar to Kamal’s Nayakudu in his film with Sudheer Varma which is under shoot in Vizag. Apparently, Sharwanand will be seen as a gangster in the movie.

Sharwa’s character in the movie will have two shades, and whether he will be seen as a noble or a ruthless mafia lord will be known when the film releases later this year. Kajal Aggarwal and Hello actress Kalyani Priyadarshan are romancing Sharwa in the movie.
