Watch Actress Rama Prabha Exclusive Interview | Frankly With TNR
Officer Movie Review
Nagarjuna and RGV teaming up after twenty five years has grabbed eyeballs initially. But RGV successfully killed the excitement around the film with bizarrely cut trailers and teasers. However, a few optimistic fans still had hopes that Officer would offer something special from the Shiva duo. Officer turned out to be as bizarre as its promos with weird camera angles and absolutely pointless story and screenplay.
Story :
Shivaji Rao (Nagarjuna) is appointed as the special officer to investigate allegations against Mumbai Police officer Pasari. Soon Shivaji realizes that Pasari is not a person but an entire system who is running mafia in Mumbai. Pasari tries to outsmart Shivaji and the tug of war begins.
Performances:
Nagarjuna’s age defying looks will leave us mesmerized. He had put in a lot of hard work to look fit and perfect as a tough cop. He tried his best to make Officer an engaging fare, but he has been left helpless with an incoherent script. The actor who played Pasari is expressionless and a total miscast. Ajay and Sayaji Shinde made their presence felt. The child actor who played Nag’s daughter is cute and expressive.
Technicalities:
Ram Gopal Varma did everything that he has been doing lately. There is little focus on story in spite of having a saleable star like Nagarjuna as the lead. A decent script would have made Officer a watchable fare, but RGV refuses to put some thought into writing. All he does is place the camera in the weirdest possible angles and have fun. His ardent fans might have hoped some sort of a comeback from the genius filmmaker, but RGV misuses a great opportunity given by Nagarjuna.
The film has very low production values that it looks like a rookie’s work in most of the frames. RGV’s films used to have great technical values, but Officer is no better than any of his recent works in terms of technicalities. Music is loud, confusing and out of sync most of the times. Cinematography is bad. Everything about the film is very bad that we just pity the actors for being part of such a dismal film with unforgivably low production values.
Thumbs Up:
- Nagarjuna’s look
Thumbs Down:
- Script
- Direction
- Cinematography
- Music
Analysis:
Officer might not have generated curiosity or raised expectations if Nagarjuna isn’t a part of it. Nagarjuna teaming up with his ‘Shiva’ director after twenty five years has made headlines. With Nag on board, one would expect the film to be a watchable one in spite of being aware of RGV’s recent track record. However, like Sarkar 3 with Big B, Officer also turns out to be another dud from the director of masterful classics like Shiva, Company and Satya.
RGV yet again sticks to his template of cops and mafia. This time he explores the bad in the police department itself. It must have sounded like a nice idea on paper, but like always RGV just goes to the sets with a single line story. There is no thought put into the script that it turns out to be a pointless film with disjointed screenplay. Vintage RGV would have done wonders with the same line, but the current RGV just focuses upon weird camera angles and ‘new sound’.
First half is bearable to an extent, but the second half tests the patience of viewers with nonstop action scenes with people shooting guns all the time. None of the twists and turns makes sense. All the actors including Nagarjuna appear clueless after a point. There is a thread of father and daughter to give an emotional touch to this action film. But those scenes are heavily dramatic and make the film even boring. Climax fight between hero and villain goes on and on and comes to an abrupt end as if they had run out of funds all of a sudden.
Ram Gopal Varma’s films used to be thoroughly entertaining with novel themes, entertaining characters, thrilling elements and technical finesse. He has lost it completely that he is unable to undo some of his recent traits in spite of getting a nod from frontline actor to play the lead. Officer will go down as another dud from RGV who desperately needs a break. It is better to watch his old films to admire his brilliance than watching duds like Officer and lose respect for him. This is a film that will not please you a bit even after going with zero expectations.
Verdict: Nonsensical!
Arrogance and Attitude: Two Reasons For BJP’s Downfall
The By Poll 2018 verdict is a major blow to Narendra Modi and Amit Shah personally than to the party. Since the duo is the face of the party and government, naturally, the result is also aimed at them. Most significantly, the by-poll 2018 result has put the BJP under 272 figure, i.e half-way mark in Parliament. This is a very crucial development in the prevailing political conditions.
Although BJP along with its NDA allies (remaining) has the required number today, but the Saffron party cannot survive – either on its own or anyone of its friends switch sides – when a No Confidence Motion is moved. What’s more? Even among BJP, 8 to 10 MPs are openly expressing their agnst against the party and are ready for a revolt if any such crisis really arises. One has to notice that all this is taking place after TDP, main ally of NDA, walked out of it predicting BJP’s sharp downfall and its failure to fulfill its promises.
Meanwhile, take a closer look into the results of By Elections 2018. Let’s anlayze what are the reasons for its loss.
Political analysts, commentators and senior politicians cutting across states are expressing that two ‘A’s as the main reason – Arrongance and Attitude. The ‘arrogance’ of BJP leaders and their over-confidence on their electoral prospects said to have affected their result.
“BJP’s over-confidence and arrogance has lost it in Kairana today. They need to change their attitude,” commented Acharya Pramod Krishnam – Political Commentator & Founder Sri Kalki Pitadhi. Many are sharing similar opinions with Acharya Pramod. Apart from the above, anti-people decisions such as high tax burden, lack of improvising employment opportunities and many others have brought a great anti-incumbency against Modi government.
Although the result of by-election (conducted in 11 states) is a mixed one, political analysts indicate that this is a wake-up call for Modi-Shah. Already BJP lost many of its friends like Chandrababu Naidu, Shiv Sena and is on the verge of losing more. It’s high time, Modi and Shah should instrospect and change their attitude towards people. Else, they should be ready to face consequences in 2019. Already in South, BJP has no sway. While it lost Karnataka general election, its strategies did not work in Tamil Nadu’s RK Nagar by-election. And the situation could be much worse in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as well.
Big Confusion Ends, Clarity Today on Portfolios Allocation
Ending days of dilemma over the cabinet portfolio allocation, finally Congress and JD(S) combine seems to have arrived at a conclusion. While the key Finance portfolio would remain with JD(S), as decided earlier, the Home Department would run by the Congress.
Contrary to previous reports, Congress has now agreed for Kumaraswamy to be the Karnataka Chief Minister for 5 years. None other than Congress president Rahul Gandhi joined the negotiators through a conference call to settle matters. Rahul said to have played a substantial role in the entire Karnataka episode. The high-level talks between Congress and JD(S) have become successful.
Congress and JD(S) combine is going to form a coordination committee which will meet regularly to ensure effective management of the partnership. It will also state that a common minimum programme will be drawn up, largely by distilling the manifestos of the two parties which contested elections separately. Kumaraswamy is going to announce the portfolio allocation today.
The interesting development is Congress and JD(S), which fought separately in the general elections and by polls, are going to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls together in Karnataka. This is a crucial development that is a major blow to Narendra Modi and Amit Shah who are dreaming to get good number of Lok Sabha seats from Karnataka where it had won 100-plus MLAs in the recent general elections.
Congress and JD(S) admitted that the clash between them had given an edge to BJP in 2018 general elections and hence, they have decided not to give any such chance to BJP again in future. As the noise for United Opposition growing louder every day, Congress and JD(S) combine fighting 2019 Lok Sabha polls is a big set back to BJP.

May Belonged to This Heroine!
The summer holiday season has almost come to an end. In Telangana, schools are resuming on June 1st, while in Andhra Pradesh schools begin ten days later. However, the major holiday period is over now. This summer we had seen three major blockbusters – ‘Rangasthalam’ in March, ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’ in April and the entire month of May belongs to ‘Mahanati’.
The month of May saw major release of Allu Arjun’s ‘Naa Peru Surya’ that went onto become a disaster at the box-office as the film has barely collected Rs 50 Cr leaving distributors in nearly 40% losses.Five days later ‘Mahanati’ hit the screens. The film saw ordinary openings but it picked up the steam with glowing reviews and terrific word-of-mouth. It saw great run throughout this month and killed the prospects of all other releases.
Puri Jagannadh’s ‘Mehbooba’ starring his son Akash Puri turned out to be turkey.Vijay Antony’s dubbed movie ‘Kaasi’ sank without a trace and Ravi Teja’s big movie ‘Nela Ticket’ had no takers at the ticket window.Naga Shaurya’s family drama ‘Ammamma Gaarillu’ too failed to attract the audiences.
All in all, Keerthy Suresh starrer ‘Mahanati’ emerged as true winner in May.
Releasing Today: Litmus Test For RGV and RT
Ram Gopal Varma who usually doesn’t care about the box office outcome of his films is much tensed about Officer that is releasing today.RGV hopes to reclaim his position and respect as a filmmaker with Officer starring Nagarjuna. He may not be hoping to recreate the magic of Shiva, but will definitely wish to deliver a decent project that doesn’t get panned by critics and fans.
RGV’s recent track record is so bad that there is absolutely zero buzz about Officer. Even fans are not looking forward to this film.Nagarjuna need not bother much about the outcome as the entire credit for the film would go to RGV. Officer is not going to enjoy solo release though. It is clashing with Raj Tarun’s Rajugadu. It is a key film for Raj Tarun who has been going through lean phase in his career.
Raj Tarun’s previous film Rangula Ratnam was a dismal flop. The young hero needs to get back on track as the competition among young actors is at an all time high at the moment. Both these films are clashing with Abhimanyudu, a dubbed version of Vishal-Samantha-Arjun’s Tamil hit Irumbu Thirai. This cannot be taken lightly as a dubbed film because it has got the bigger release among all the three films.
