Why Is Naidu Opposing Population Control?
For the last couple of years, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been advocating against population control measures.
He has been openly asking the youth to marry at an early age and give birth to more than two children. He has been expressing anguish over the way the youth are becoming career-oriented and ignoring family life.
“If we take up population control, very soon India will become like Japan with more aged people and less youth force. The country needs more and more young people,” he said several times in the past.
However, the actual reason for Naidu’s fear is not growing number of old people. He apparently fears if there is a fall in population due to strict implementation of population control measures, the fund flow from the Centre would come down as less population growth is an indicator to the economic growth.
Secondly, Naidu also fears if the population comes down, there would be reduction in the number of assembly and parliament seats as well.
He expressed this concern while addressing the Collectors’ Conference which concluded in Amaravati on Wednesday. He told the Collectors that he had been expressing this doubt right from the days of former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee.
He pointed out that 10 assembly seats were reduced in Andhra Pradesh while there was an increase of 14 seats in Telangana owing to migration as per the 2001 census.
He said he had raised the issue during the Vajpayee regime and as a result, the population of 1971 was used as a cut-off mark under the 14th Finance Commission.
“I have implemented measures to control population during my earlier stint as chief minister. We even competed with Kerala in the matter of population control,” Naidu said.
He expressed doubts over the intention of the 15th Finance Commission’s decision to take the 2011 Census as a benchmark.“If that happens, we will forego more,” Naidu said, adding that the number of Parliament seats across South India would also be reduced.
Rajamouli Delivers Speedy Review For Mahanati
The likes of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao and versatile director SS Rajamouli often watch various films and gives a review about them through their micro-blogging sites. And here comes a review from Rajamouli, but this time we have to call it ‘speedy’ one.
“Keerthy’s portrayal of Savitri garu is one of the finest performances I’ve ever seen. It is not just imitating. She brought the legendary actress back to life. Dulquer Salman is absolutely fantastic. I am his fan now. Congratulations Nag Ashwin and Swapna. Your belief, persistence and determination are remarkable. #Mahanati”, tweeted Rajamouli, by 1’o clock, immediately after watching the 10 am show today.
These words coming from one of the greatest director about a greatest actress and a biopic that emulated her story are truly a worthy feedback. Also, this will be now helping the film get more footfalls as Rajamouli’s word is almost ‘sila sasanam’ for many cinema lovers.
Apart from Rajamouli, the likes of actor Mohanbabu, director K Raghavendra Rao and Tamil director Atlee also heaped praises on “Mahanati” in no time.

All eyes were on Mahanati, the prestigious biopic on legendary actress Savitri. The film released today to thumping reviews. The unanimous positive word of mouth is helping the film register solid collections at the box offices in India and overseas.

Revanth Wants Nothing Short Of CM Post!
Firebrand MLA from Kodangal A Revanth Reddy seems to be terribly upset with the Congress party into which he had defected after resigning from Telugu Desam Party.
Reason: he feels the Congress party has not been able to utilise his services properly.
“If the Congress party makes use of my services effectively, it has a bright future. Otherwise, it has to bite the dust in the elections,” he said in an aggressive tone with the media.
Revanth said before he joined the Congress party, the envoys of party president Rahul Gandhi had made several promises.
“But they have not been put into practice. Now, they say I would be made party’s working president. I don’t want the post and I will write a letter to Rahul Gandhi to that effect. I am ready to work as an ordinary party worker,” he said.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the functioning of the Pradesh Congress Committee leadership, Revanth said there was none who could give proper advice to the PCC chief.
“I want a post that suits my stature. I don’t want any other post,” he said.
The Kodangal MLA said he had lot of future in politics.
“My ultimate goal is to become the chief minister of Telangana. And I am confident I will achieve my goal one day,” he said.
Keerthy’s performance is the finest, I’ve ever seen: SSR

Talk Of Town: That Accidental Comedy on BJP
Though the main target of newspapers is to take right news, ideologies and analysis into people, they carry ads in order to sustain financially. And with elections in the near sight, political parties are also advertising a lot in the Karnataka state.
Apparently, when BJP issued an ad through a leading English daily in Bangalore, the least they expected is the news that will be covered right below the ad. While the BJP ad reads, “Vote for Change, Vote for BJP”, the heading right below it reads that “37% BJP candidates face criminal charges as per a study”. And that’s a tactic blow to the saffron party for sure.
However, while the heading talks about just BJP alone, the whole study says that 28% of all the May 12 election contestants in Karnataka from all parties in the election fray face criminal charges. While BJP tops the list with 83 of its candidates from the total 224 facing criminal cases, Congress stands in second with 59 (26%) of its 220 candidates embroiled in criminal cases. And Janata Dal is not a clean slate here as 41 (20%) of the fielded 199 candidates face criminal cases.
Anyway, for any party that is busy coming up with interesting ads in papers, the actual news that is being published is making a mockery of their slogans. That’s the accidental comedy!!
B’Day Treat: Hero’s Free Ice Cream Trucks For Hyd
Though he doesn’t like to celebrate his birthday, young actor Vijay Devarakonda feels that he want to give a treat to the city of Hyderabad. And then he feels that his treat should give respite from the soaring temperatures. Here goes his unique plan.
Employing three trucks that carry ice cream, the actor says, “Say Hi to #TheDeverakondaBirthdayTruck”, and these trucks distribute the ice cream for free. “We will be giving away Ice Cream to as many as possible and If you spot them, don’t be shy just go and take some IceCream, smile and enjoy it” he adds, asking the eaters to pose a snap with the truck and share it back on social media.
But the main idea is not about publicity, but only to give relief to people working under the hot sun, he says. “The idea is to give out free ice cream to everyone going about their day in the heat. The traffic cops, the street vendors, students, employees” Vijay adds, explaining that a few days of shooting in the sun made him do this.
And guess how his fans reacted about this? They felt happy with some asking, send the trucks to Vizag and Chennai as well. The young actor surely knows how to live up to the hype.
A Book Coming Up On Rangasthalam?
Truly one of those long awaited super hits after the super success of Baahubali 2 has come in the form of “Rangasthalam”. Even though some movies turned super hits in between, they didn’t get that cult status for their content. But Ram Charan and Sukumar have just mesmerised everyone.
Whenever a terrific blockbuster comes out, media folks always put their pen forward to write best pieces about it. This time, one such enthusiastic journalist has come up with the idea of writing a book on the movie. For now, the journalist doesn’t wish to be named, but truly, he has some genuine reasons to write the special memoirs.
Actually, this journalist also hails from Godavari region and identified himself with Rangasthalam village while watching the film. From landlords to village president, politics to recording dances, he got connected to everything. “Sukumar and Charan made me time travel into my past and the film is haunting even now, a month after its release. My tribute to them comes through my new book” he said.
In the age of web and smartphones, many wonders what could a hard copy (a book) do to audiences, but the journalists believe, old is always gold and people will get back to it somehow.
