How Many Takers For Paruchuri’s Comments??

Share

Paruchuri Gopala Krishna is one of the most acclaimed writers in Tollywood and has penned down some chartbuster movies along with his brother Venkateswara Rao in his long film career. From some time, he is actually analysing stories of super hits and how the screenplay is designed and all.

At an event other day, Paruchuri Gopala Krishna remarked that Tollywood has a story crisis. He claimed that good stories are not coming up these days. “Telugu Film Industry is one of the highest grossing film industry in our country but is now in need of some innovative stories. I got saddened that no creative and unique stories are coming out lately. Young writers should come up with concept-based stories” he said.

Recently, TCWA (Telugu Cine Writers Association) launched a three-day workshop on script writing and screenplay. Taking part in the event with acclaimed scriptwriters like Vijayendra Prasad, these comments are made by Paruchuri. His comments are once again reminding us of how Tollywood is churning out only those routing run of the mill films with some new spice. Even happening heroes are also coming up with similar mass projects. So who is going to take Paruchuri’s comments seriously?

“In an industry where many want to make 20 crores profit with 5-10 crores investments, only mass films are the way. If they do concept-oriented films only once in a decade films like Pellichoopulu and Arjun Reddy click. Who would want to dump crores to get some meagre profits?” a small-time producer whose film is getting ready for Summer release commented.

So, we have to see how Paruchuri’s words will be taken seriously and concept films replace commercial movies.

Give This Director Some Good Luck

Share

Becoming a star director in the industry is not that easy. Sometimes, despite having the talent and dedication some directors fail to establish their career and can’t bag good offers from the producers. On the other hand, the directors who are not even eligible to be one might end up carving back to back films.

One such talented director who still remained in the background is none other than Sagar Chandra. He marked his directorial debut with Ayyare movie starring Rajendra Prasad. The movie is critically acclaimed as a thought-provoking film. Later, he directed Appatlo Okadundevadu starring Nara Rohit and Sri Vishnu. It got lauded for its gripping story set in the 90s backdrop. However, it took nearly four long years for director Sagar to get this offer after Ayyare.

Recently, he succeeded in convincing hero Ram to star in his upcoming movie with a sensible script. 14 Reels Entertainments banner was supposed to bankroll this project. When everything was going well, Ram suddenly opted out from the project due to reasons unknown. Now the entire team is back to square one as Sagar should start hero hunting again.

One wonders why this young director is struggling that way to get a hero and a film to take off. Let’s hope he will get some good luck.

Padmaavat all set to enter Rs 100 crore club today

Share

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Padmaavat”, despite protests marring its screening in some states, is set to march past the Rs 100 crore mark in its opening weekend in India, say trade experts.

The Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh starrer opened to mixed reviews on January 25 — a day before the Republic Day holiday — but paid previews on January 24 had given its earnings a jumpstart.

According to Viacom18 Motion Pictures, the film minted Rs 5 crore from paid previews on January 24, followed by Rs 19 crore January 25, Rs 32 crore January 26 and Rs 27 crore on January 27, taking the cumulative total to Rs 83 crore.

Ranveer is all “smiles”, while Deepika described the box office figures as “absolutely unbelievable” and Shahid celebrated the response by tweeting “balle balle”.

Trade analysts are confident that the movie will cross the Rs 100 crore mark with Sunday’s collections, giving the magnum opus a promising opening weekend figure.

Trade analyst Atul Mohan tweeted on Sunday: “‘Padmaavat’ had a big Saturday with Rs 27 crore, which brings its total to Rs 83 crore. Will march past Rs 100 crore today.”

Mohan is confident the movie’s first week collections will amount to Rs 180 crore to Rs 210 crore.

Another trade expert Taran Adarsh said “Padmaavat” has continued to “sparkle” at the box office.

“Business on Saturday (after a big holiday on Friday) was exceptional. Will comfortably cross Rs 100 crore mark today,” he said.

Ranveer, who essays Alauddin Khilji in the film, tweeted a photograph in which he looks visibly happy with all the praise coming his way.

“All smiles,” he captioned it.

“Padmaavat”, based on 16th century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s poem “Padmavat”, was caught in a row after protests from Shri Rajput Karni Sena which contended that it distorts historical facts and dents the pride of the Rajput community.

As a result of the violence that ensued, the movie did not release in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Age Is Just A Number: Shruti Haasan

Share

Shruti Haasan turned 32 on Sunday, and she is not fretting over her age. The actress finds the number concept “silly”.

“Age is just a number. I have always wondered why, be it any artiste anywhere in the world like Tom Cruise, there will be a bracket and then their age will be there, or it will read so and so 23-year-old. I have always wondered why do people do that,” Shruti told IANS over the phone from Los Angeles.

“It is really odd because the number concept, beyond a point for me, is really silly,” she added.

As for her 32nd birthday celebration, the daughter of stars Kamal Haasan and Sarika, says there is no big party planned.

“I am in LA and I am going for dinner with all my friends from here, so I am really excited about it. About having a warm cosy evening with my friends,” she said.

Looking back at all those growing up years, Shruti, who sings and acts in films in multiple languages like Hindi and Tamil, said: “It has been wonderful. I have always been big on birthdays. My parents have been so wonderful to me during my birthdays, my sister, my friends everyone. So, there are fond memories.

“There are so many fond memories that I can’t pick one.”

Shruti had a shaky start to her career, with films such as “Luck”, “Anaganaga O Dheerudu” and “7am Arivu” failing to elicit expected response. But Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu film “Gabbar Singh”, a remake of “Dabangg”, changed the game for Shruti and got her into the big league.

The actress says she has learnt a lot over all these years, with the art of remaining patient, being the most important thing.

“It has really been about patience. I have learnt a lot of patience and still I am not that patient which I like to be. But yes, it has been better than it was before… I have learnt to be more empathetic.”

Shruti wants to continue on the same path of growing and learning.

“The challenge is to make something new in the path of growing and maintaining balance.”

After the release of “Behen Hogi Teri” and “Katamarayudu” last year, Shruti decided to take a step back to re-assess her career. The actress says the process turned out to be a “great neutraliser”.

“I have never done it before. It was (all about) learning as I go, and by God’s grace, once you get successful, then doing this and that and next thing and next thing… I felt like I really wanted to take a step back and I really wanted to balance music in my life as well. I felt I needed a neutralising experience.

“It is difficult to change your point of view when you are in the same situation constantly. I took a step away and went to London which was a completely new environment, new me and there was no baggage of the past. There were no expectations and I met some lovely artistes. For me, it was a great neutraliser and a great re-assessing when I wanted.”

On the work front, the actress says there will be announcements soon, and promised she will “do lots of music this year”.

Why Is Pawan Focussing So Much On Anantapur?

Share

Why has actor turned politician and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan chosen Anantapur district to kick off his political tour?

Of course, this is not the first time that Pawan has toured Anantapur district. He did it in the past, too, and even announced that he would contest the next assembly elections from Anantapur.

He has now set up his first office of the party at Gooty road in Anantapur. He even said he was determined for the development of drought-prone Anantapur district.

He also sought to erase the factionism tag given to Rayalaseema and announced that he would continue to work till the area becomes green.

The question is whether there is any specific reason why Pawan had chosen only Anantapur for his campaign?

According to YSR Congress party legislator and Public Accounts Committee chairman Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Pawan had deliberately chosen Anantapur district only to weaken the opposition because the YSRC had chances of bagging all the MLA seats in the district in next elections.

“Similarly, Pawan is focussing on East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts, where the YSRC has fair chances of bagging the maximum number of MLA seats this time,” he pointed out.

Sharwanand’s Crime Saga From February!!

Share

Picking up different genres and new directors has become the game for Sharwanand from quite sometime. However, a big blockbuster result is still eluding him and right now he’s working on a couple of interesting projects including Sudhir Varma and Hanu Raghavapudi’s films.

What’s more surprising is that he has picked another interesting director who has made ‘crime stories’ his surname with just one blockbuster. ‘Dandupalyam’ director Srinivas Raju is all set to join hands with Sharwa soon. After turning such a brutal and scathing crime story on to the screen, what is he going to do with Sharwa?

Well, Srinivas Raju’s Dandupalyam is made with a budget of 3 crores and went on to collect 40 crores, though the total story revolves around slit-throating villains. Will Sharwa now don a similar villain kind of role? Or will he be the hero in this Dandupalyam directors’ film?

Latest update on this project is that Sharwa is getting ready to start the first schedule from February. Bankrolled by Anil Sunkara, it will be a crime thriller and two heroines are likely to join Sharwanand.
