Producer Refused Rajamouli’s Request for 2.0!

Share

It may sound unbelievable but it is heard to be true. Leading Tamil production house Lyca Productions who were partners in Telugu film ‘Khaidi No 150’ , reportedly declined Rajamouli’s request. Rajamouli’s friend and producer Sai Korapati has put up an offer of Rs 60 crore for the Telugu dubbing rights of ‘Robo 2.0’ being made by Lyca Productions owned by A Subaskaran.

However, when Tamil production house, were reluctant to budge from their figure of Rs 80 crore, Sai Korapati sought the help of his friend and partner in his production house S S Rajamouli to put in a word. Few weeks ago, both the Rajamouli and Sai, reportedly travelled all the way to Chennai and visited the production house for a discussion on the rates.

When Rajamouli expressed that Sai will promote the film in the big way and they could consider reducing the rate, Subaskaran politely declined request of ‘Baahubali’ director and informed that they have no plans to compromise on the price since their sci-fi thriller is expected to rock box-office.

Sticking to their guns, Tamil production house sold the same for Rs 81 crore to exhibitor-distributor Sunil Narang who outwitted Sai Korapati, Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao, and others to bag the dubbing rights.

Power of 8: After Galaxy S8 and S8+, Galaxy Note 8 to Hold Samsung’s Fort Amid Chinese Uprising

Share

The resistance Samsung showed after it had been hit hard by the Galaxy Note 7 debacle was remarkable. The speedy recovery of the South Korean conglomerate was largely attributed to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ handsets that brought back high demand for the company’s smartphones that lost credibility to some extent due to the ill-fated Note 7.

But those bad days are long gone, and Samsung now has a convincing lead over its closest rival Apple in the worldwide smartphone market. In fact, in the second quarter of 2017, the company’s smartphone sales grew 7.5 percent over the same period last year while Apple’s iPhone sales were largely flat, market research firm Gartner said in a new report on Tuesday.

During the three-month-period ended in June, Samsung sold 82.5 million smartphones, accounting for a market share of 22.5 percent. Apple, on the other hand, sold 44.3 million iPhones during the quarter with a market share of 12.1 percent. Rounding out the top five were China’s Huawei, Oppo and Vivo with market shares of 9.8 percent, 7.1 percent and 6.6 percent, respectively.

The Galaxy S8, which is currently the world’s most popular Android smartphone, managed to lure customers with its attractive curved-screen design and a rich portfolio of software apps while Samsung’s retail distribution across dozens of countries helped revive its fortunes.

According to Gartner, Samsung’s annual smartphone sales growth in the April-June quarter came after three consecutive quarterly declines. And, the company is expected to maintain this growth throughout the year.

“Despite growing competition from Chinese brands such as Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, we expect Samsung to register growth in 2017,” Anshul Gupta, research director at Gartner, said in a statement.

Although Gupta didn’t name any product, Samsung’s estimated smartphone growth in the second half of the year will hugely depend on the Galaxy Note 8, which is expected to be unveiled on Wednesday. The upcoming Note 8, which is likely to go on sale in mid-September, is projected to drive Samsung’s smartphone sales over the next few quarters.

When it comes to Apple, the company’s smartphone sales were down 0.2 percent year-on-year. However, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also expected to come back on track with the launch of the new iOS 11 and a redesigned iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 8.

“Apple’s sales in emerging markets are expected to grow as older-generation iPhones continue to attract buyers. The new iOS 11, which will include augmented reality, machine learning, an improved Siri and a new display design, will likely fuel strong iPhone sales in the fourth quarter of 2017, and help Apple increase its sales in 2017,” Gupta added.

With both the leading smartphone makers gearing up for releases of their own premium flagships, a fierce battle in the high-end smartphone segment is all but confirmed. It will be interesting to see how Chinese companies will react to this power show by giants, and where they continue to win customers despite increasing competition.

Pakistan Using India As An ‘Excuse’ To Support Terror Groups: U.S

Share

Pakistan is using a perceived threat of encirclement by India as an “excuse” to continue its support to terrorists, a Trump administration official has said, dismissing concerns over Indian development activities in the war-torn country.

“What India is doing in Afghanistan is not a threat to Pakistan. They’re not building military bases. They’re not deploying troops,” National Security Council (NSC) spokesman Michael Anton said on Tuesday.

This is an “excuse” on the part of Pakistan, Politico quoted Anton as saying.

“In the worst case,” the Trump administration official said, the Pakistani government has been guilty of “active direct support” for terrorist groups.

“(Indians) are not doing the things that would constitute encirclement, for lack of a better term, which is one of the things that the Pakistani’s complain about,” he said.

His comments came after US President Donald Trump laid out his policy for Afghanistanand the larger South Asian region. Trump sought a greater involvement from India while criticising Pakistan for tolerating terrorist safe havens and for its support to terrorists.

The U.S.President has preferred a regional approach for peace in Afghanistan and said the US “can no longer be silent about Pakistan’s safe havens for terrorist organisations, the Taliban, and other groups that pose a threat to the region and beyond.”

Pakistan’s foreign office reacted to Mr. Trump’s announcement of the new strategy, saying the threat to peace and security “cannot be isolated from the complex interplay of geopolitics, continued existence of festering disputes and pursuit of hegemonic policies.”

“Non-resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the primary obstacle to peace and stability in the region.”

The foreign office asked the US to work with Pakistan to eradicate terrorism, instead of relying on the “false narrative of safe havens.”

Jim Mattis, In Baghdad, Says IS Are ‘On The Run’

Share

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said on Tuesday he is confident that U.S.-backed Iraqi forces will finish off the Islamic State militants clinging to strongholds that are shrinking in size and number.

“ISIS is on the run,” Mr. Mattis told reporters after meeting with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and other Iraqi government leaders. “They have been shown to be unable to stand up to our team in combat.”

Mr. Mattis spoke alongside Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, who is due to finish his tour of duty here in early September.

“The fighting is tough,” Lt. Gen. Townsend said, “but the momentum is with our partners.”

Earlier, Mr. Mattis described the extremists as being trapped in a military vise that will squeeze them on both sides of the Syria—Iraq border.

Mr. Mattis had arrived in the Iraqi capital hours after President Donald Trump outlined a fresh approach to the stalemated war in Afghanistan. Mr. Trump also has pledged to take a more aggressive, effective approach against IS in Iraq and Syria, but he has yet to announce a strategy for that conflict that differs greatly from his predecessor’s.

The Pentagon chief told reporters before he left neighboring Jordan that the Middle Euphrates River Valley roughly from the western Iraqi city of al-Qaim to the eastern Syrian city of Der el-Zour will be liberated in time, as IS takes hit from both ends of the valley that bisects Iraq and Syria.

“You see, ISIS is now caught in-between converging forces,” he said, using an alternative acronym for the militant group that burst into western and northern Iraq in 2014 from Syria and held sway for more than two years. “So ISIS’s days are certainly numbered, but it’s not over yet and it’s not going to be over any time soon.”

Mr. Mattis referred to this area as “ISIS’s last stand.”

Unlike the war in Afghanistan, Iraq offers a more positive narrative for the White House, at least for now.

The ranking U.S. Air Force officer in Iraq, Brig. Gen. Andrew A. Croft, said that over the past few months, IS has lost much of its ability to command and control its forces.

“It’s less coordinated than it was before,” he said. “It appears more fractured flimsy is the word I would use.”

It seems likely that in coming months Mr. Trump may be in position to declare a victory of sorts in Iraq as IS fighters are marginalized and they lose their claim to be running a “caliphate” inside Iraq’s borders. Syria, on the other hand, is a murkier problem, even as IS loses ground there against U.S.-supported local fighters and Russian-backed Syrian government forces.

The U.S. role in Iraq parallels Afghanistan in some ways, starting with the basic tenet of enabling local government forces to fight rather than having U.S. troops do the fighting for them. That is unlikely to change in either country.

Although the Taliban is the main opposition force in Afghanistan, an IS affiliate has emerged there, too. In both countries, U.S. airpower is playing an important role in support of local forces, and the Pentagon is trying to facilitate the development of potent local air forces.

In Iraq, the political outlook is clouded by the same sectarian and ethnic divisions among Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish factions that have repeatedly undercut, and sometimes reversed, security gains following the toppling of Saddam Hussein’s government in 2003.

An immediate worry is a Kurdish independence referendum to be held Sept. 25. If that’s successful, it could upset a delicate political balance in Iraq and enflame tensions with Turkey, whose own Kurdish population has fought an insurgency against the central government for decades. McGurk reiterated U.S. opposition to holding the Iraqi Kurdish referendum.

With Iraqi troops on Tuesday reaching the first urban areas of the IS-held northern town of Tal Afar on the third day of an operation, Mr. Mattis has refused to predict victory. He said generals and senior officials should “just go silent” when troops are entering battle.

Chiru Spoiled Akhil’s Show!

Share

They plan something, and something will happen in the end. That’s how results of most films and most ideas happen. We have Akkineni Nagarjuna also doing one such big promotion stuff, but finally, his friend and business partner spoiled the show.

Young hero Akhil Akkineni has been eagerly waiting for the right film from the past one year and it was Vikram Kumar who impressed Akkineni family with a power packed action and romantic drama. The makers revealed the film’s title as “Hello” along with the poster last evening. Though they have created huge uproar before the title name revealing, afterward that hype didn’t sustain despite many top celebrities giving a video-byte about it.

No doubt, we have to blame Nagarjuna’s friend Megastar Chiranjeevi for this happening. The motion poster was released just a day before Megastar’s film motion poster launch, which has been carrying huge buzz. With the arrival of “Sye Raa”, automatically focus of everyone moved to Megastar’s movie and then “Hello” got lost in time. Jokingly many are saying that Chiranjeevi spoiled the show for Hello of Akhil.

Akhil and Nag have been eagerly waiting for some time to release the poster and unveil the title of the movie. But they should have waited for Chiranjeevi to come first and then release their motion posters. When Nagarjuna’s birthday and Vinayak Chavithi festival are around, fans are wondering why the title of Akhil’s second film got announced on August 21st in a hurry.

Chandrababu Speeds Up Lobbying For Key Post

Share

Ever since Venkaiah Naidu has been elevated as India’s Vice President from Union Urban Development Minister, there have been growing speculations over the induction of new person in to Modi’s cabinet. Close on the heels of cabinet reshuffle by PM Modi, AP CM Chandrababu Naidu and key member of NDA is pulling all stops to fill the spot with his close aid. Naidu is reportedly building pressure on Modi to allot the key post to a TDP MP.

Even as TDP MP Ashok Gajapathi Raju is working as Union Minister for Civil Aviation and YS Chowdary as Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, Naidu’s fresh proposal to allot another key Union Ministry to TDP MP is not going down well with the BJP MPs from Andhra Pradesh.

BJP’s AP unit president and MP Hari Babu has been expecting a berth in Modi’s cabinet reshuffle. BJP leaders from AP have been wanting Modi to fill the spot with AP BJP leaders since Venkaiah hailed from the AP.

However, inside sources reveal that Modi has his own plans for the cabinet reshuffle. Political analysts too opine that TDP MP may not be allotted a direct Union Ministry given lack of experienced persons.  If Naidu insists, Modi may allot a Union Ministry of State for a TDP MP that too depends on various equations. At the moment, Modi is keeping all cards close to his chest.

20 Percent Less Than Pelli Choopulu!

At the most Arjun Reddy could collect 20 percent less than Pelli Choopulu’. These comments of Tammareddy Bharadwaj on the dais of the film’s pre-release event has left the makers of Arjun Reddy in great shocker. In fact, Tammareddy was right to an extent.

The existing GST impact on the films and its impact on the collections have been grossly ignored by many and Tammareddy has rightly pointed out by explaining how it would affect.

Stating that producers are at the receiving end, Tammareddy said that had Dasari Narayana Rao is alive today, he would have raised the issue. He added that he is raising the issue as Dasari is no more. He also bluntly said that Arjun Reddy is releasing as Asian Films bailed out them.

“There are many films such as Arjun Reddy which are made every year. But not many would get released. And GST is acting as a death knell for small-films. This is a serious issue. Everyone within the industry should raise the voice,” said Tammareddy.

Lady Behind Vennela Kishore’s Weight Loss

In a short span, comedian Vennela Kishore rose to a new level in Tollywood and the recent release “Anando Brahma” is another example of his ability to pull hilarious comedy with his timing and expressions. But these days he lost oodles of weight and there’s said to be a romantic reason behind this.

Actually, in a blockbuster that released early this year, Vennela Kishore was asked to play a small role and after going to sets he got shocked to know one thing. An effervescent lady whose age is nearly 45 years is made to pair with him as his wife, while Kishore is pretty younger than her. Shocked by the pairing, Kishore then realized that he’s way too fat and looking as a perfect fit for her husband role.

When the director also told him the same thing, he got shocked, but as he gave the commitment to play that role along with call-sheets he got no option than to play it. Then Venneka Kishore decided to lose oodles weight such that he will look young. In a way, this is a romantic reason because in case if he got paired with a young lady definitely he would not have lost weight thinking that he’s alright. But as they pairing mismatched to him in his heart and mind, immediately he started dieting and cut off the flab.

Currently, a happening comedian in Tollywood, Vennela Kishore not just finishes his work and leaves the set, but also attends promotional events if needed. He revealed this thing in one such promotional program only.
