Trump appoints Indian-American as US Ambassador to Peru
U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Indian-American Krishna R Urs as the new US Ambassador to Peru.
A career service American diplomat since 1986, Mr. Urs is currently Charge d’ Affaires of the US Embassy in Madrid, Spain, where he was also the Deputy Chief of Mission.
During his three decades of State Department service, Mr. Urs has specialised in economic issues and developed extensive policy experience in the Andean region of South America.
He has served at seven US embassies as well in senior leadership positions in Washington, DC, a media release said.
Mr. Urs earned a MS from the University of Texas and a BS from Georgetown University. He speaks fluent Spanish as well as some Hindi and Telugu.
Previously, Mr. Urs served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Affairs and Chief US Government Aviation Negotiator at the Department of State from November 2010 until June 2014.
He has also served as Director in the Office of Aviation Negotiations in the Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs in the Department of State, Charge d’ Affaires, at the US Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia, Deputy Chief of Mission at the same embassy, Director of the Office of Economic Policy and Summit Coordination in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs at the Department of State.
Samsung To Invest $380 Million in US, Create 950 Jobs
With an aim to tap deeper into the US’s large home appliances market, Samsung Electronics said it would invest $380 million in the country to set up new production facility, which is likely to generate about 950 jobs.
The South Korean tech giant said the investment will be made in Newberry county, South Carolina, Yonhap news agency reported.
Yoon Boo-keun, who heads Samsung’s home appliance business, met Governor Henry McMaster of South Carolina on Wednesday to sign a letter of intent for the project.
The announcement came ahead of the first summit between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump on Thursday.
Samsung had been considering building a new production facility in the US for the past three years.
The company said it chose Newberry because the area boasts excellent human resources along with sound transportation infrastructure.
Samsung plans to start production from the plant in the first half of 2018.
The latest investment will allow Samsung to expand its business in the US, Yoon said, adding that the company will join forces with industry experts and other innovative companies based in the world’s No. 1 economy.
While Samsung took up around 17.3 per cent of the US market for electronic appliances last year, according to the data compiled by industry tracker Traqline, industry watchers said the company aims to further solidify its lead with the new production facility.
Apple acquires German Eye Tracking Company
Apple on Tuesday confirmed its acquisition of SensoMotoric Instruments, a German computer vision company specialising in augmented reality (AR) and eye tracking, media reported.
Apple essentially confirmed the deal, offering the standard statement it gives when it buys companies, reported Axios.com.
“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” Apple was quoted as saying.
Apple also unveiled its new ARKit platform at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month to allow developers to build new apps that could place virtual content on top of real-world scenes.
Given Apple’s increasing focus on augmented reality applications, this acquisition could help it further develop software for future versions of the iPhone or other devices.

The tennis star found out that she was expecting her first baby with her fiance, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in January this year. Who Is Behind DJ’s Piracy?
On Wednesday, ace producer Dil Raju has approached officials of CCD (Cyber Crime department) to seek their assistance in pulling out those people who are spearing some online piracy links of DJ (Duvvada Jagannadham) on social media platforms, particularly Facebook and Twitter. Director Harish Shankar also joined him when the producer complained police about piracy and they addressed media later.
Speaking to the journalists, Producer Dil Raju made an shocking comment – ‘Our film DJ is being deliberately targeted by someone who can’t digest its huge success at box-office.’ The producer also submitted some information about listed Twitter, Facebook profiles that are continuously posting trolls and passing negative posts, comments against the movie.
Later, Harish Shankar spoke to media and urged audiences and anti-fans to stop spreading such piracy links as it will no way effect the director & actor of the film. He further said, ‘we have already received our payment from producer and if your intention is to defame the actor or director, you wouldn’t be successful. And, in-a-way, it will impact thousands of workers who’re dependent on films.’
On other hand, the makers are quite happy about collections as the film managed to pass the weekday test also. In first 5 days, DJ raked in 46.76 Crore share in Telugu speaking states and a worldwide share of 58 Crore (approximately).
First Time A Bad Alien Coming to India?
Those who watch Hollywood films are aware that aliens attack the world, US primarily, in almost all alien-themed films. Aliens are generally portrayed as vicious creatures. SC Order On Social Media A Big Blow To Naidu!
An order quietly passed by Supreme Court on Tuesday striking off Section 66-A of the Information Technology Act of 2000 has nailed the Chandrababu Naidu government which was using the section to intimidate social media activists who criticised him and his government.
A division bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Chalameshwar (who is surprisingly a relative of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu) ruled that the Section 66-A of IT Act of 2000 would curb the freedom of expression in the social media.
The court opined that what is good for few could be hurting to some and that does not give right to government to jail people for expressing views in public domain and dismissed the Section 66a.
This has exonerated social media activists like Inturi Ravikiran and Ravindra, who were arrested by the AP police for posting objectionable comments against Naidu and his government in the social media.Now, one has to see how the Naidu government would react to the social media comments against him!
Naidu Spent 18 Lakhs On Dinner For 19 Guests?
Shocking as it might sound, a dinner hosted by the Chandrababu Naidu government for just 19 guests in February cost a whopping Rs 18.29 lakh, at the rate of Rs 96,285 per head!This was revealed from an RTI query posed by an activist to the state government.
The event was a two-day conference on intellectual property rights held by the government in Vijayawada on February 23 and 24.As per the information obtained under the RTI Act, only 19 guest including Supreme Court and High Court judges and other legal luminaries attended the dinner hosted by the government on February 23.
While an amount of Rs 13.38 lakh was spent on actual dinner, the remaining amount of Rs 4.90 lakh was spent on tents, tables and other arrangements.The guest list has only 19 names and even one were to assume that their gunmen, drivers and other assistants also had the dinner, the number would not exceed 100. Even then, the dinner would not have cost that much!
Does it not show the kind of corruption involved even in organising dinner for judicial officers? Or wastage of public money just to please judges?
Maa TV Fires 80 Employees!
Mass layoffs are not just confined to the IT sector alone. Maa TV, which turned as Star Maa after Star group acquired it, said to have sacked 80 of its senior-most employees. People in various senior positions have been asked to quit their jobs and handover their Employee ID cards and leave the office immediately.
This said to have come as a major shocker to its employees who have been working long for the company over 7 years on average.
Ever since Star Maa took over, there have been rumours of the layoffs of old employees. However, the transition of Maa TV to Star Maa reportedly had a clause not to sack the existing employees for certain period. It’s learnt that the period has been completed and Star group said to have voted to fire the old employees.
Despite great planning, Star Maa is not able to deliver as expected. Even the most anticipated Chiru’s Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu has failed to meet the expectations. Now Star Maa is keen on more productive employees and buzz is that it may hire new employees in the old positions depending on the actual requirement.
The decision has come as a shocker days ahead of its most popular Big Boss Telugu with Jr NTR as the host.

At Thank You meet that was held on Monday, the team was in euphoric mood and said nothing would stop the movie’s dream run at the box-office. Now they are requesting the audiences to save their film! What a contrast?
