The Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju had to face tense moment in Lok Sabha as Shiva Sena MPs surrounded him in the house. The MPs are angry over minister’s firm refusal to intervene on the flying ban on their colleague Ravindra Gaikwad, who had assaulted an airline manager two weeks ago in a fight over a business class seat.

In an unprecedented scene, Ministers were seen shielding Raju in the Lok Sabha as Anand Geete and other Sena MPs surrounded him.

The dramatic developments were taken place when the house adjourned for a brief time. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other ministers rushed to Raju’s side and to help save the situation.

The Shiva Sena MP Geete was seen shouting that no flight will take off from Mumbai. The minister, however, said the law would take its course. Aircraft are machines where people fly and safety is important. Safety will not be compromised.

bahubali-2

Three weeks ahead of the worldwide release of ‘Baahubali 2’, the makers have planned to re-release the first part on 7th April to bring audiences back into the narrative.

The Hindi version of Baahubali first part is being released tomorrow in as many as 1000 screens across India. This will be a huge opportunity for Baahubali fans to relive the epic beginning before the conclusion comes into theatres. Reportedly, advance booking is pretty solid for the first part. The epic film may create another box office record during its re-release.

Re-releasing hit films was very common from 70s to mid 90s. However, the trend has vanished in the last two decades. Baahubali is bringing it back with its massive re-release, If the ploy works, we can see the many more such films following the suite in future.

Interim, ‘Baahubali 2’ will have the biggest ever release for any Indian film on April 28, 2017.

Controversial Kannada hero Duniya Vijay, who was recently banned by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, has reportedly been roped in to play one of the villains in NTR’s ‘Jai Lava Kusa’.

Duniya Vijay’s career has been marred with controversies. He was banned after two stuntmen died while shooting for his unreleased film ‘Mastigudi’ last year. The two stuntmen jumped from a helicopter into a reservoir and died as rescue teams failed to save them. The incident hit headlines all over media and Vijay was handed over a temporary ban.

When Kalyan Ram and director Bobby were looking for a new face to play the villain in NTR starrer, they came across Vijay’s profile and approached him. As his career came to a halt in Kannada film industry, Vijay reportedly agreed to play villain in ‘Jai Lava Kusa’ and thus make his debut in Tollywood.

Impact of IPL 2017 on Tollywood

IPL 2017, the latest season of the biggest T20 cricket spectacle, is back. Starting from April 5, the marathon-like tournament will end on May 21st. Given how fond people of this country are of cricket, IPL, every year gives tough time to films in theatres. Unless a film is solid enough, people will hardly show interest to go all the way to catch it in theatres when they can watch the enthralling IPL matches at home or along with massive crowds in stadiums.

The impact of IPL this year may not be big on Tollywood. The only notable films to release in IPL season are Mani Ratnam’s ‘Cheliyaa’, Varun Tej’s ‘Mister’ and the most eagerly awaited ‘Baahubali 2’. Katamarayudu has almost ended its theatrical run already and Guru reached safe stage.

Even if the evening slots are reserved for IPL, both Cheliyaa and Mister can attract audiences in morning and matinee shows since there will be no competition at box office. There might not be any impact of IPL on ‘Baahubali’, instead IPL organizers fear that the tournament may get hit because of the epic film.

No other notable film will release for at least two weeks and probably for another week after Baahubali 2 hits screens. By the time new films come out, IPL will be in its closing stages so the impact might not be much on them.

It may also be noted that 2016 films – ‘Eedorakam Aadorakam’, ‘Sarrainodu’, Supreme and Bichagadu were all released during IPL season and they became hits. It proves that if a film can offer engaging content, IPL can not stop them from striking gold at box office.

Two of the three Sankranthi 2017 releases – Gautamiputra Satakarni and Sathamanam Bhavathi were premiered on TV recently and they have recorded surprising TRP ratings.

Dil Raju and Sharwanand’s family entertainer, ‘Sathamanam Bhavathi’ was the true blockbuster of Sankranthi festival given how effectively the small film sustained the competition from two biggies and collected close to Rs 30 Cr share on a meager budget of Rs 6 crore.

When the film made its first premier on TV this Sunday, it reportedly recorded a TRP rating of 15.44, which is extraordinary. The adualtion people shown on this film during its stay in theatres, continued on TV as well.

On the other hand, Balakrishna’s landmark film Gautamiputra Satakarni, which also performed good at box office and became the first Rs 50 Cr film of the senior hero, has received a rather cold welcome on TV. The historical film, which was telecast on the eve of Ugadi festival on Star MAA, could fetch a TRP rating of only 5.5

Megastar’s Khaidi No.150 is yet to make its debut on TV.
