Baahubali+Tubelight = 800 Crore?

Share

bahu

For the massive expectations on second installment of Baahubali franchise, no figure seem to be enough one to match it. But, a few Bollywood trade experts are sketching some cumulative numbers for the film in all languages.

According to a noted trade analyst of B-town, the collaborative collections of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion and Superstar Salman Khan’s ‘Tube light’ will effortlessly fetch the Industry close to 800 Crores at box-office. While the historical magnum opus is likely to make 400-500 Crore in total, Kabir Khan’s directorial Tube Light has the potential to mint 300+ Crore in both overseas and Indian markets.

Breaking down Baahubali-2 figures – the makers are said to have already pocketed 500 Crore with its theatrical, musical and satellite rights. Although makers exuding high confidence that movie has content that can breach the 1000-Crore mark also, market pundits are predicting a minimum of 200 Crore from Hindi version and 250 to 300 Crore from rest of the languages.

When it comes to Tube light, it’s the third collaboration of successful combination Salman Khan & Kabir Khan- after Ek Tha Tiger and Bhajrangi Bhaijan. It is a war drama set in the backdrop of 1962 Sino-Indian war wherein Salman falls for a girl in China. The film is striding into cinemas in June, 2017.

After a decent first quarter, these two films will deliver a rocking box-office, like that of Baahubali: The Beginning and Bhajranji Bhaijaan in July, 2015.

Wanted: Strong leaders for BJP in Telangana

Share

bjp-win-seats647x450

Hitherto, Bharatiya Janata Party is confined mostly to Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts and some pockets of north-Telangana. It has not been able to grow beyond it over the years.

Obviously, it is not enough if the BJP wants to emerge as a potential alternative to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Telangana by 2019 elections.

Sometime back, a senior BJP leader who reviewed the party’s strength in Telangana was surprised to know that it does not have even 40 leaders who are known across the state.

It shows the party does not have enough candidates to fight the elections in Telangana in 2019, leave alone dreaming of coming to power.

Apparently realising this weakness, BJP national president Amit Shah is coming to Telangana on a three-day visit to guide the party to become a strong alternative to the TRS.

The first point on his agenda is to see that the BJP gets enough number of visible faces across the state. For that, it has to lure prominent leaders from other parties into the BJP, promising them good posts and money in the coming years.

Sources said the BJP president is eying some senior Congress leaders from north Telangana districts who have the potential to fight the elections and credibility among the people.

Since the Congress leadership is weak, Amit Shah is of the view that if offered goodies, there may be exodus of the leaders from the Congress.

Besides, he also reportedly asked the party leaders to identify potential leaders from the TDP and also disgruntled leaders of the TRS. So, by next elections, the party should not face any dearth of the leaders.

Life beyond H-1B: Try L1, EB5 visas, experts suggest

visa

New Delhi: The cap for US H-1B visas for 2018 may have been reached but immigration experts say that Indian applicants, who form the majority of the recipients of such visas, have other options as well — such as the L1 and EB5 visas.

US missions across the world started accepting H-1B applications for fiscal 2018 from April 3. According to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), it received 199,000 H-1B petitions during the filing period.

On April 11, the USCIS used a computer-generated lottery to select enough petitions to meet the 65,000 general category cap and the 20,000 cap for those with advanced US degrees.

The new Donald Trump administration has also sought to make acquiring H-1B visas tougher. The USCIS on March 31 issued a clarification that computer programmers, to be eligible under the H-1B visa norms, must prove that theirs is a specialty occupation. Merely obtaining a computer degree may not be enough.

Meanwhile, a private member’s bill was also introduced in the US Congress by Democrat Zoe Lofgren which seeks to increase the minimum salary of H1-B visa holder to a whopping $130,000 from the current minimum of $60,000.

The bill, if passed, will impact the margins of IT companies, the biggest beneficiaries of the H1-B visa programme, or their clients will face higher charges for the work performed, Mark Davies, Global Chairman of Davies & Associates, LLC, which specialises in US immigration law, told IANS in an email interview.

According to Abhinav Lohia, Partner and Practice Chair of India and Southeast Asia at Davies & Associates, Indian companies will now have to scout for American talent or opt for alternatives like L1B or L1A visas to send workers to the US.

L1 visas facilitate the temporary transfer of a foreign worker in the managerial, executive or specialised knowledge category to the US to continue employment with an office of the same employer.

The L1 visa can help as “a lot of US companies prefer to deal with a local company or someone on the ground in the United States representing a foreign company instead of dealing directly with the foreign company”, Lohia explained.

“US presence gives the US companies/clients confidence since US courts will most probably have jurisdiction over disputes,” he added. “Also, the companies that establish a presence in the United States also register their intellectual property there, which again is viewed favourably.”

Of course, the H-1B and L1 visas are for employees. If you have enough money, you can opt for the EB5 visa, Lohia said.

For an EB5 visa, the applicant needs to invest $500,000 in a Targeted Employment Area (TEA) or $1,000,000 in a non-TEA and the investment should result in 10 jobs.

In recent times, there has been a sharp hike in the number of Indian applicants for EB5 visas and Lohia attributed multiple reasons for this, including the fact that the US is a better country to retire in and there are more opportunities to expand business operations.

According to Davies, parental gifting of the funds necessary for an EB5 application may now be the only option for Indian students seeking employment after graduation in the US.

Lohia said that EB5 and L1A visas may lead to permanent residence and eventually to US citizenship faster.

“It puts an end to the dependence on the employer for staying in the United States,” he said.

“Upon being fired from his/her job, an H1-B visa holder may have to leave the country along with his/her family, whereas once someone gets permanent residence they are no longer dependent on others for their stay in the US as long as they are law-abiding and renew their Green Card on time.”

Trump clearly targets Tata, Infosys & CTS

A bulk of H1B visa winners, every year, are from Indian IT giants like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant and others. So, they are eventually biggest-losers of new executive policy, to be passed by President of United States- Donald Trump, who’s likely to sign on Wednesday. As per Trump’s speech to media on Tuesday, the president yet again made an attempt to stress ‘Buy American – Hire American’ policy.

Now that executive order is expected to tighten rules for H1-B visa approvals – by scrapping the existing lottery system, only providing to highly-skilled and higher-paid workers across the world- a While House official pointed out that new executive order will target Indian IT and consulting firms namely Tata (TCS), Infosys (INFY) and Cognizant Technologies (CTS).

The official added, ‘these companies will apply for a large number of applications every year by putting additional tickets in lottery raffle. The new policy, to be signed by Donald Trump in Wisconsin, will keep them (Indian companies) in check and provide a uniform access to all the well-qualified graduates all over the world.’

So, each of these Trump moves suggest that accessibility for Indian Tech giants is no longer near normal and numerous H1-B picks every year will be a thing of the past. Besides these Indian companies, top US firms who file large number of applications are – Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google.

Warning To Baahubali, Rajamouli Caught in Mess

The dissent against Baahubali: The Conclusion in Karnataka is growing with each passing day. The latest is that Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has called for a state bandh tomorrow and stated that the film would not see release there unless Sathyaraj tender unconditional apology over his remarks in the sensitive issue of Kauveri water sharing between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Multiple protests have been held by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike in front of various popular multiplexes against the release of Baahubali: The Conclusion. The activists have cautioned the exhibitors not to screen the film and told them that there would be serious consequences.

This is after Sathyaraj (who is seen as Kattappa in Baahubali) had allegedly made ‘hurtful’ remarks. The KRV alleged that Sathyaraj had “insulted” Kannadigas and Kannada women and expecting an apology from him for the smoother release of the film.

President of Karnataka Film Chamber is also in favour of the pro-Kannada organisation that’s strongly raising voice against the film’s release until Sathyaraj apologies.

But the major twist is that Rajamouli is caught between a rock and hard place as the film also has a release in Tamil. If anything he does in favour of Kannadigas for the film’s release would affect the prospects of the film in Tamil. Even if Sathyaraj says a sorry, it is expected to have contrary consequences in Tamil Nadu.
