From Ram Gopal Varma to Gunasekhar to Krishna Vamsi to Puri Jagannadh to Sreenu Vaitla to VV Vinayak, many top directors who had once ruled the industry are now struggling to make a mark once again. Let alone making a mark, most of them are failing to even convince the audiences and make them hook to their seats in theatres.
The old-fashioned and old-schooled filmmakers often become monotonous and repetitive although mostly they’re unconscious of it. Especially when it comes to the scenes, they’re recurrent. In addition to it, people around them push into a pseudo state and create an illusion that audiences are wanting same – like comedy or family elements or love or action – from them. By the time everyone around him and he realise, the situation would be out of control. .
RGV
Trailblazer Ram Gopal Varma is also the starter of this ‘deteriorating’ trend. Varma, who had once delivered classics like Shiva, Satya, Rangeela, Sarkar, has lost his sheen. Perhaps, he is the only filmmaker who had made ‘n’ number of films inspired from The God Father. And his upcoming film Sarkar 3 is going to be another version of The God Father.
Gunasekhar
Although Guna got a commercial success with Rudhramadevi after a spree of flops, even Rudhramadevi has failed to impress critics. The film just sustained at the ticket windows due to its hype and thanks to Baahubali: The Beginning which paved a way for Rudhramadevi.
Krishna Vamsi
Vamsi’s last film that got both critical acclaim as well as commercial success was Chandamama way back in 2007. And it’s followed by Mahatma which is an okay film. Whereas Sasirekha Parinayam, Mogudu, Paisa, Govindudu Andarivadele have all poured cold water on the hopes.
Puri Jagannadh
Puri’s downfall started after Businessman. His list of flops include Devudu Chesina Manushulu, Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu, Iddarammayilatho, Jyothi Lakshmi, Loafer, Ism and the recent Rogue. While Heart Attack is average, Temper had a close shave. Thanks to Vakkantham Vamsi’s story and Jr NTR’s performance, Temper bailed out Puri. But his last offering Rogue has got severe backlash like never before. The film turned out to be one of the biggest disasters in his career. And it’s a total washout in the overseas market.
Sreenu Vaitla
Vaitla’s flop streak began with Aagadu. This is continued with Bruce Lee and his latest film Mister received severe bad talk on social media. The latest talk in industry circles is that no one would dare to work with Vaitla after back-to-back duds. As he failed to use the opportunities come his way, looks like, going gets though for him in the future.
VV Vinayak
Vinayak too falls into this category as the director hasn’t made anything interesting. Of course, Chiranjeevi’s comeback and landmark Khaidi No.150 is an exception. While a major part of the credit goes to Chiru, the remaining part goes to the original film Kaththi. His Badrinath, Alludu Seenu, Akhil have failed to impress. It’s time for Vinayak to look out for good scripts.
PS: However, not everything is wrong in them. All they need is to realise their mistakes and correct themselves immediately to bounce back. At the same time, they need to update themselves. It’s better late than never. Directors like Rajamouli, Trivikram and Boyapati still hold the grip – of course, they have their own limitations, mistakes!
