Pawan orders Katamarayudu re-shoot

Share

Aiming at March 24th release date, Pawan Kalyan has wrapped the whole of “Katamarayudu” shooting in no time and kept only two songs pending. But here comes a shocker.

Actually after watching the first copy of Katamarayudu immediately after returning from his USA trip, Pawan felt that few scenes haven’t turn out as good as expected. So he wants to reshoot those scenes now and organised 2 days of shoot. To get dates of all the stars including Shruti for this shoot became a tough task now. Still, Pawan wants reshoot.

Featuring Pawan and Shruti in the leads, Katamarayuud happens to be remake of Veeram movie.

Students Worship Heroine To Lose Virginity

Share

hot

Does anybody believe this? Few students are worshipping anyone of a heroine every year on Valentines Day such that they could find a partner in 6 months and lose virginity in 1 year. Yes, it is happening.

Single students from Hindu College in Delhi are said to have undertaken a strange ceremony to lose their virginity. After conducting a poll, the hostel residents of this college have picked Loafer fame beauty Disha Patani over Nargis Fakhri, and adored a tree named ‘virgin tree’ with her sexy pictures. Later they worshipped her for an hour holding special pujas, Archana and haarathi as well.

Some people who know this happening revealed that every year first-year students of college perform this ritual on Valentines Day with a belief that they will find a partner soon and also lose their virginity. Only virgin boys are allowed to take part in this ritual, the source added.

“Every year we pick a heroine and make her or Damdami Mai and worship her. This year our seniors picked Disha Patani for us and we took part in the ritual” a student commented when a National TV channel interviewed them.

In the age where science is advancing like never before, one wonders what is this stupid belief in the name of losing virginity.

Krish Missed Buying Copyrights??

Share

krish

Recently news is everywhere that director Director Krish’s next film with Venkatesh got called off. It was said that there is some copyrights issue with the film and hence the Daggubati scion didn’t want to pursue it. Well, what is it anyway?

What is not known to many is that Krish got inspired from the novel “Athadu Adivini Jayinchadu” written by popular novelist Kesava Reddy in 1984. The novel deals with the story of a man who goes in search of his pregnant pig in a forest. As the whole timeline of the story is just between sunset to sunrise, the protagonist emerges with a new identity. Removing the pig element, Krish took the rest of story and crafted into his own idea with a view of buying rights for the novel anyway.

However, an award-winning documentary filmmaker named Dulam Satyanarayana has acquired the rights to the book much before. He’s planning to go to Cannes Film Festival in coming May and raise funds for the film’s production. Already he has scouted locations in Ontillu forest in Chittoor district and Dandakaranya in Adilabad for the film’s principal shooting.

Earlier when director Trivikram made “A..Aa” basing on Yeddanapudi Sulochana Rani’s “Meena” novel, he got trolled by everyone for not giving credits to the senior writer. Claiming that a technical glitch has missed out Sulochana Rani’s name, Trivikram added her name to title sequence from 3rd day of release. Keeping all these things in mind, hero Venkatesh don’t want to get into unnecessary copyright issues and plagiarism stuff, and hence asked Krish to drop off the project, says a source.

If that’s true, then Krish should have acquired copyrights well in advance.

Sharmila's Interesting Love Story

sharmi

41-year-old civil rights activist from Manipur, Irom Sharmila, doesn’t need much intro. She’s quite famous for fast-unto-death that she began on 2nd Nov, 2000 demanding cancellation of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958. in Manipur. After 16-long-years of fast, she ended it on Aug 9th, 2016.

Called as ‘Iron Lady, she had refused food and water for more than 500 weeks and “the world’s longest hunger striker”.

Ending her fast, she announced that she’d contest polls against Chief Minister Okram Ibobi. She has said that she plans to become the Chief Minister to repeal the AFSPA.

Meanwhile, not many are aware of her personal life. She has an interesting love story. Here’s Sharmila’s love story with an NRI whom she is going to marry after the Manipur general elections in March.

Sharmila has been in love with Desmond Coutanho, an NRI originally from Goa, for a long time. He used to rush to Imphal (Manipur’s capital) to accompany her whenever she was presented before a local court.

On one occasion, Desmond had faced the anger of local women and he was beaten up by the angry women activists in the court campus after he was seen holding Sharmila’s hand inside the courtroom.

It’s learnt that holding hands and PDA (public display of affection) are not socially acceptable in Manipur and hence he was said to be roughed up. Apparently, after the incident he had stopped coming there. Yet they’re in touch constantly. And now the love birds decided to get married. Confirming her marriage, Sharmila has made the announcement while speaking to media yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sharmila’s parents aren’t in touch with her. Even after she ended her fast, she had no place to stay in Manipur, as her family, including her mother, did not welcome her. In fact, she had to return to her “home” for 16 years — the security ward in a hospital in Manipur.

Aamir Khan’s Dangal has not just smashed the Box Office records and bagged critical acclaim, the film’s powerful performances were equally talked about. After Aamir, the two people who were noticed were the girls who played the roles of Geeta and Babita.

Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh are the girls who played Geeta and Babita respectively. Both Sanya and Fatima’s chemistry on screen got good applause and now their off-screen appearances too getting equal appreciation.

The latest photoshoot of Sanya and Fatima for Elle magazine has been getting wow response. Keeping their natural ‘androgynous’ style, yet the duo looked quite stylish.

Success Gone Waste for Taapsee?

tapsee

After stupendous success of Pink, Taapsee was riding high. She’s on the top. If she gets another good hit after Pink, it would cement her position. And she was counting on The Ghazi Attack and Running Shaadi. As both the films releasing this Friday (17.02.17), this Friday is crucial for her.

However, in what can be a double shock to Pink actress, these two films appear to have poured cold water on her hopes. While Running Shaadi received poor reviews, The Ghazi Attack got rave reviews but her role didn’t get appreciation. She couldn’t get noticed with her brief role in the Ghazi.

She has nothing much to do in The Ghazi Attack as the likes of Rana, KK Menon, Atul Kulkarni stole the show besides the film’s director Sankalp and production designer. The film’s talked about for its CG work, music and technical aspects. Taapsee is the last one in the film to get noticed, opine critics.

Though Ghazi is expected to do well given its positive word-of-mouth, Taapsee may not get much benefit out of this submarine war flick. Looks like, Pink success got wasted and now she has to wait for another big hit.

Trade: Shocking Losses To Distributors

onv

Is nagarjuna akkineni’s ‘On namo venkatesaya’ heading towards becoming the biggest disaster of the actor’s career? Probably yes, say trade reports.

After taking a shockingly low opening at box office, the devotional film never really took off. If the opening weekend numbers were dismal, the KRR directorial performed much worse in the week days.

As per trade reports, ONV collected around 7.3 Cr worldwide share in its opening week.

Below is the area wise breakup of share:

Nizam – 189 lacs
Ceded – 88 lacs
Nellore – 27.5 lacs
Guntur – 64.3 lacs
Krishna – 35.72 lacs
West – 36.5 lacs
East – 40.9 lacs
Uttharandhra – 71.5 lacs

Total 1st week AP & TG share 5.54cr

Karnataka – 115 lacs
Remaining – 60 lacs (approx)

Total 1st week WORLDWIDE share 7.29cr

From hereon, even 10 Cr share in lifetime looks too much to ask for. As 35 Cr was invested on theatrical rights, ONV could end up as a bigger disaster than nag’s earlier epic failures – Bhai and Kedi.

It’s sad to see the hard work of the ONV unit yielding no fruitful result and resulting in shocking losses to distributors.

Heroine To Director: Hit Me On My Navel

Share

Untitled

Hitting on the waist and navel of a heroine through some means of fruits and flowers may be seen as a most violent form of romance by some feminists, but from ages, such romance on silver screen is being liked by the masses.

Especially when it comes to director K Raghavendra Rao’s movies, making fruits follow the principle of buoyancy on the waists of heroines and dance on their lips is a usual sight. Flowers and Fruits always adore heroines at hot spots and make all the romance in his songs. But for the film Om Namo Venkatesaya, KRR never thought of hitting Pragya Jaiswal’s navel spot with flowers or fruits. Only after the actress made the request, he did it so.

“That’s the third day of shooting with KRR sir and we’re canning a song. But actually he’s not making any flower or fruit thrown at my navel or waist, that’s why I took courage to ask him to hit my navel with them”, said Pragya Jaiswal, who feels that KRR’s navel-hit will give her a stroke a luck. Joining Pragya, even Nagarjuna Akkineni confirmed that Pragya has demanded Raghavendra Rao to hit her navel with a flower. This is what we call crazy!!

Earlier the likes of Ramya Krishna, Roja, Rambha, Nagma and many others have got hit with flowers and fruits by K Raghavendra Rao in songs; and the stardom of these heroines reached a high later. We have to see what happens to Pragya.

Pawan Waiting For Shruti Permission!

Pawan Kalyan is back in the town after his much hyped USA tour that boosted the spirits of his fans out there. Immediately after touching down Hyderabad, he’s busy checking the progress of the post-production works related to Katamarayudu.

Coming to the unfinished shooting part of the movie, we hear that there is a couple of days patch work to be shot, as Pawan Kalyan didn’t liked few shots. At the same time, two songs are to be canned and Pawan is as usual thinking about flying to Switzerland to finish the same. But his desire to reach the Alps will be fulfilled only if Shruti Haasan vows to join.

Actually Shruti has allotted dates to the Katamarayudu team for canning of songs, but in case if she has to travel abroad for shooting, then the travel time will also get counted in the dates allotted. In that case, there will be shorter time in hand to shoot songs. However, if Shruti could allot extra time for flying, then Pawan Kalyan will land in Switzerland to do the dance jigs.

Earlier Pawan has shot songs in the same locations with Shruti for Gabbar Singh, Samantha-Praneetha for Attarintiki Daredi, Kajal for Sardar. Seems like serene locations of Switzerland have created some long lasting impact on the numero uno star.

For all the above said previous films, Devi Sri Prasad scored music, but for first time now it will be Pawan Kalyan dancing to the tunes of Anup Rubens in the snow capped lush green locales.

Ghazi Movie Review – 3.5/5

Share

Ghazi directed by debutante Sankalp Reddy is India’s first underwater war film that tries to decode the mystery behind the sinking of Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. This is a fiction story based upon real events. What stand out in Ghazi is its production design and the deft handling of the director with limited resources.

Story :

Submarine S 21 is sent on a classified mission to disrupt the plans of Pakistan naval army that is trying to target INS Vikrant, the first aircraft carrier for Indian Navy. Rann Vijay Singh (Kay Kay Menon) a rebellious Captain who wants to eliminate the enemy at the sight should be controlled by young officer Arjun Varma (Rana) as any amateur action could trigger the Indo-Pak war. Despite Arjun’s denial, Captain Rann Vijay launches a torpedo at Ghazi, the Pakistani submarine that is sent to create problems on the Indian east coast. The torpedo misses by a whisker and that results in the attack between both the submarines.

Performances:

Rana is pretty impressive as the Navy officer. His well built body and demeanor suits the character to the T. He has matured as an actor and that can be seen in his confrontation scenes with Kay Kay Menon. Bollywood actor Kay Kay Menon hams a bit, but is effective as the rebellious captain. Taapsee has little role to play in this film. She is okay within her limitations. Atul Kulkarni has a lengthy role and does justice to it. Actors like Satyadev and Bharath Reddy lends good support to the principal cast. Rahul Singh is good as the Captain of Pakistani submarine Ghazi. Late actor Om Puri is good in his brief role.

Technicalities:

Sankalp Reddy took a challenging script for his debut film. It is a difficult film to make as it an entirely new genre to Indian cinema. War at sea is an exciting subject on paper but it would need great amount of conviction to make it an engaging film. It is clear that Sankalp has done his homework for understanding how the submarines operate and all. He did a commendable job as a director and is a fresh talent to watch out for.

Music by K is one of the biggest plus for this film. Background score builds the tension and engrosses the audience into the film. Cinematographer Madhie is at the top of his game as he comes up with a stellar work in making this war film look real and authentic. Production design is top class and the writing is decent. Editor could have fine tuned the first half that needed a bit of trimming. Producers should be lauded for backing such a novel idea and providing sufficient funds to manufacture a quality product.

Thumbs Up:

  • War at Sea backdrop
  • Production design
  • Cinematography
  • Direction

Thumbs Down:

  • Over the top drama
  • Leisurely paced first half

Analysis:

Ghazi is a daring attempt from the director and its producers as well. There are a few reference films in the world cinema that are made in this subgenre, but no filmmaker from India has ever attempted to take up this subject. Ghazi is a difficult film to make and envision as the total story runs in a cramped up space with a handful of characters.

There is no scope for deviation from the proceedings as all the characters will be focused on their job. So to create drama with a few characters and to engage the audience with whatever happens in that ‘space’ is challenging to the filmmaker. Also he needs to educate the audience regarding the subject as most of the people don’t know how it works. Efforts have gone into understanding the makings of a submarine, firing of torpedoes and the duties of a captain and his subordinates.

More than ninety percent of the story happens under water and inside a submarine. So the production design has to be perfect to make us believe that we are watching real action in a real submarine. Technically, Ghazi is brilliant as every technician has come up with a wonderful output. Clearly, the director has limited resources compared to the multibillion dollar war movies that Hollywood makes.

Despite limited resources and an unfamiliar premise, director and his team of writers have done a wonderful job in creating engaging drama. The film is not short of action despite its limitations. Firing of torpedoes, explosions under water and the strategies that the Indian officers apply to counter the enemies are excellent to watch. Director makes us watch the battle with bated breath in spite of the predictability associated with it. Only complaint is its leisurely paced first half that takes time to get going.

Second half of the film is very engrossing with lots of nail biting moments. The finale could have been better though. It is too predictable and cinematic. Barring few hitches, Ghazi is a film that cannot be missed. Films like these are not only rare but also make us proud as they are right up there with the standard of world cinema.

Verdict: Gazillion times ahead.

At 24, She Debuted As Beautiful Mother

Share

pragati

Actress Pragathi is known for her mother roles in Telugu films and she’s one of those highly paid character artists as well who charges lakhs per day. But her turn to mother role after trying her stint as heroine in Tamil films makes us surely wonder in awe.

Though Pragathi is against going glamorous for films, she acted in seven Tamil films including Bhagyaraja’s Veetla Visheshanga as leading lady. Then she got married and turned to TV serials at the age of 24. Somehow for unknown reasons, Suresh Productions has decided to cast this actress as a mother to the then 18-year-old Aarti Agarwal in “Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu” movie.

As Pragathi has seen that her chances as heroine are totally closed, now that she’s both married and acting in TV serials, senior actress Sri Vidya persuaded her to pick up this chance which could help her settle as a character actress. Half-heartedly she agreed to don the beautiful mother’s hat and then rest is history.

Pragathi enjoyed playing mother to Aarti then, later she played the same role to Allu Arjun in Gangotri and Ram Charan in Chirutha as well. Sharing her thoughts, she says that life is not about what we plan but accepting the things coming to us. Till date she acted in 80+ films.

Telugu Man Behind Jaya-Sasi's Downfall

Share

jayal

Not many of the present generation are aware of the man behind the downfall of Jayalalithaa and VK Sasikala. The man in question is none other than Marri Chenna Reddy, the former governor of Tamil Nadu with whom Jayalalithaa had serious differences.

It all started when Marri Chenna Reddy was appointed as the Tamil Nadu Governor in 1993. When Jayalalithaa sworn in as the CM for the first-time in 1991 June, Bhishma Narain Singh was the Governor of the state. But on May 31st, 1993, Marri Chenna Reddy was appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu by then PM PV Narasimha Rao. Since then Jayalalithaa had serious differences with Marri and it was never-ending clash.

Given that both Marri & Jaya were the two headstrong personalities, the twain had been on the warpath.

On one-side, Marri was a strong man who had successfully tackled critical problems like separate statehood of Telangana and share great bond with then PM PV Narasimha Rao. Marri had proved himself as successful governor in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Contrary to the normal assumption that role of Governor in federal state is ‘nominal’ and ‘honorary’, Marri Chenna Reddy had proved otherwise by leaving an indelible mark as Governor in both states and was appointed as TN Governor by PM.

On other side, Jayalalithaa too was an iron lady and has great individuality. She was of the opinion that Governor shouldn’t intervene much in the state’s governance. This had led to the great differences.

Jayalalithaa had allegedly taken Marri “lightly” and said to had “insulted” him on many occasions. At one stage, she had skipped Governor’s inaugural speech before Assembly session and this had invited wrath of Reddy.

Reddy too started taking serious note on the allegations of Opposition parties against Jayalalithaa and state government. Usually, governors don’t consider such issues seriously. But Reddy didn’t leave a leaf unturn to trouble then CM Jaya.

At one time, Jaya had went to Delhi and complained to then PM PV Narasimha Rao against Chenna Reddy and sought his removal. But PV didn’t pay heed to Jaya’s request as he is aware of Chenna Reddy’s capabilities. All these have further aggregated the differences between Jaya and Marri.

During this situation, the lavish wedding of Jaya’s foster son Sudhakaran flared up by media, Opposition. Jaya’s disproportionate assets became talking point. Exactly then, Janata Party’s Subramanya Swamy has brought Jaya’s DA assets to governor’s notice and sought his permission to probe into Jaya’s assets. Subramanian Swamy had slapped case against Jaya, her aide Sasikala and others in DA case.

Normally in such cases, Governor’s won’t act fast and won’t give permissions to court to prosecute a Chief Minister. But setting a new precedent in India and for first of its kind, a state Governor has given permission to probe into allegations against sitting Chief Minister. This led to great debate. Jaya had appealed to several courts against Governor and their feud but nothing came in her favour. Courts have started probe. The case has been shifted to Karnataka for impartial probe.

After 20-years-long probe, Jaya and Sasikala were convicted in DA case by Karanataka High Court. Jaya was the first CM to be convicted. She had to resign as CM and went to prison along with Sasikala. During this lean period, Jaya had appointed O. Panneerselvan as the CM. Though she’s back as CM with slight relief, the ongoing case in Supreme Court had been worrying Jayalalithaa.

It’s buzzed that these cases have resulted in ill-health of Jaya who later succumbed on Dec 5, 2017 after 75 days of struggle in Apollo. Jaya’s demise has a lasting impact on AIADMK and it even divided AIADMK as both Sasikala and O. Pannerselvam have been waging swords against each other. With Sasikala now declared as convict by Supreme Court and sent to jail to complete her sentence of 3 years and six months, she stands unfit to contest polls for another 6 years thus blocking Sasikala to contest polls for 10 years. This is seen as “end-of-road” for Sasikala’s political ambitions.

Now that Palaniswamy, Sasikala’s loyalist, became CM of Tamil Nadu and Jaya’s protege OPS was stamped as anti-party man, AIADMK is crippled in the state thus strengthening opposition DMK. This is the story of how a Dravidian party suffered a death blow due to a Telugu man.
