In overseas, family entertainer is the most successful genre and the film looks to be cashing on the sentiments of people. By Saturday, the Sharwa starrer has raked in $233K in the US.
The film’s box office numbers are staggering given that it is competing with Chiranjeevi’s ‘Khaidi No.150’ and Balakrishna’s ‘Gautamiputra Satakarni’.
With decent word of mouth and Dil Raju’s clever post-release promotional strategy, Shatamanam Bhavati is expected to post a great weekend total. The footfalls on Sunday morning were reported to be encouraging. The real test however will begin on Monday.
This is the real meaning of Sankranti. There is a shining new glow in Telugu states as Telugu audiences are queuing before cinema halls for Gautamiputra Satakarni tickets. Nandamuri Balakrishna’s historical 100th Gautamiputra Satakarni is getting robust each day. After an outstanding first day response, collections are going strong and steady making buyers in all the regions to feel happy.
Producers Rajiv Reddy, Bibo Srinu from First Frame Entertainments banner communicated with the individual distributors and are hereby divulging these statements:
Sai Korrapati (Ceded/Vizag): Ceded territory is a shell tank for Balakrishna. His strong hold in the region made me to bag GPS at fancy prices. The film will breakeven by Sunday and GPS will be into all time top 5 records in this part.
Sudhakar (Krishna/Guntur): I am glad to have distributed the prestigious Balakrishna’s 100th movie made on historical Satavahana subject. Startling response from Krishna and Guntur audience is shattering records. My investment made is safeguarded by this overwhelming public reaction.
Sudhakar Reddy (Nizam): After watching GPS first copy, I’ve forecasted a record run for NBK. Today my words have come true. Financial result is on definite positive side and hopefully excess flows begin from Monday.
Suresh Babu (East): We are moving towards financial overflows. I told producer and my friend Rajiv Reddy to get ready from Monday.
LVR (West): Repeats have started in this region. Balakrishna’s fan frenzy and powerful content is pushing us into gains by today.
Bharat Kumar (Nellore): Never witnessed such huge crowds and exceptional response. Every scene and every dialogue is extolled. Tickets are sold like hotcakes and we are under pressure to increase the screens. Commercially, GPS is first film in Sankranti to have run into profits.
Srujan (Overseas – 9PM): Till date, collections are sustained without any fluctuations. Word of mouth talk and reviews have done a great deal of help. Expecting $2M in the long run and we might bracket into all time top 5 or 6. The film is all set to touch $1M in next couple of hours.
In Australia, UK, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore, buyers are already reaping profits from day 2. GPS is also released on public demand in Japan, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Singapore and few more areas which is unusual for a Telugu film to garner special adoration.
Producers Rajiv Reddy and Bibo Srinu are extending their warm wishes to audience and congratulations to buyers for encouraging their film thus surpassing breakeven records within just four to five days.
After Megastar’s super hit movie Khaidi no 150, Fans rejoiced again with supreme star Sai Dharam Tej’s upcoming flick Winner trailer that released on Sankranthi. As usual Tej looked energetic in this movie. No doubt that his dialogues in this movie will take him to another level.
“Nee lanti vaallu adugaduguna vuntaru, Naa lantodu arudhuga vuntadu. Adhey date, adhey place, adhey time, adhey track, adhey range” is the dialogue said by Sai Dharam tej. The story line is all about the father, and lover and how the hero wins them.
Jagapathi Babu as usual will be a huge plus point for this movie. Earlier Jaggu bhai has teamed up in Sai Dharam tej’s block buster Pilla Nuvvu Leni Jeevitham. Jagapathi Babu now a days is selecting characters of his age which seems to be a good sign for him.
Directed by Gopi chand this movie will hit the screens on 24th of next month. Rakul preet is playing the female lead while this movie is being bank rolled by Nallamalapu Srinivas and Tagore Madhu.
We are very much aware that Chiranjeevi’s comeback 150th film ‘Khaidi No 150’ is a remake from Tamil hit ‘Kathi’ but this did not hamper the film’s chances to kick top most industry records with its left leg. Produced by Ramcharan, the craze and hype surrounded this project during crucial pre release times is marvelously turned into Box Office flows as profits are overflowing for Charan for his first time experience as a producer.
If reports are anything to go by, ‘Khaidi No 150’ is made on a very moderate budget of Rs. 20 Crores (definitely excluding Chiranjeevi remuneration because Konidela production house is his own house). Pre release business is already informed to have come close to Rs. 100+ Crores and now profits being assured in many areas, the overall producer’s gain shares are likely again to be increased in coming days.
Chiranjeevi’s charm kept the Fans and common audience bound together making revenues to speak. Breaking into $1M club on day 1 in the US is not a simple achievement. Huge Fan frenzy around the globe for Mega Star proves a fact that Chiru will not stop here and continues with 151st and 152nd very soon.
The phenomenal success of Baahubali apart from putting Tollywood on the stage of world cinema also served to increase the market of Tollywood exponentially, overnight.
Nobody expected the movie to perform the way it did, although they were confident of a grand outing. Now, the public is getting ready for the sequel and trade analysts are amazed at the business potential of the movie.
In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone, the movie is expected to do business of around Rs 200 crore.
And considering the Bollywood and international markets and other regional languages, satellite rights, merchandising etc, the movie can easily generate business of close to Rs 1000 crore.
If that indeed happens, Tollywood cinema wold shine on the international stage like never before.
Lagadapati Rajagopal, who created sensation with his ‘Pepper Spray’ act in Lok Sabha during the discussions on united AP bifurcation bill in 2014, has astonished all the Telangana people with his latest act. For the first time, he praised Telangana Chief Minister and K Chandrasekhar Rao, who had spearheaded the separation movement openly.
Surprising all, the Andhra leader visited the temple town Yadadri, the abode of Laxmi Narasimha Swamy, and offered prayers to the god. He said that the temple town has emerged as a world famous spiritual and religious centre under the leadership of KCR. He hoped that Telangana state will also develop in all spheres and become a well-developed state in near future.
Rajagopal has been staying away from active politics ever since the bifurcation of state. He was also suspended from the Congress for indulging in anti-party activities.
In contrast to the decades of old tradition of conducting Cock fights during Sankranthi festival, local people in Rayalaseema region in Andhra Pradesh organized Pig Fights in the wake of ban on cock fights.
People of Tadipatri village in Anantapur district gathered in a big number to have a glimpse of the pig fight that was being conducted for the first time in the faction ridden area since this morning. TDP MLA JC Prabhakar Reddy inaugurated the game amidst festive spirit.
The cinematic fight between the pigs enthralled the audience who also participated in betting. This is the first time that pig fights have taken place on the eve of the Sankranthi festival in Andhra Pradesh.
Nandamuri Balakrishna’s magnum opus Gautamiputra Satakarni is ruling the Box Office. Be it in domestic or overseas, Balayya has shown his clear domination. Thanks to unanimous rave reviews.
Now the film is said to be influencing many, especially kids a lot. Kids who have all watched the historic epic, are impressed with the idea of changing names with their mother’s name in the prefix.
“We have watched Satakarni with 30 of my family members including relatives. We all liked the film and nearly 15 of us were kids. They started calling each other adding their mother’s name along with their names. This we had not expected and it’s a good sign,” said a parent who watched the movie.
Also kids are loving the portions of Pulumavi who acted as son of Satakarni. His courageous dialogues, his training in sword fight, scenes of Pulumavi and Satakarni in battle zone and his dialogues with Nahapana have all won the hearts of kids.
While a few elders are also started adding their mother names, kids are more who got affected with Satakarni. Parents are happy to see their kids giving due respect to parents and also thus knowing the cultural and historical significance of Telugu.
The producers of Gautamiputra Satakarni are tight-lipped over the collections of the film and this is inviting the ire of Balayya’s fans who are mounting pressure on the producers to declare the opening day numbers officially.
When asked about the same, producer Rajeev Reddy said on Friday, “We’ve been so busy whole day and couldn’t get time to take a look at them. We’re not going to bother about how much we got yesterday and we’re focusing all energies on how to increase it from tomorrow.”
He added, “Also, our motive is not on the collections. Our idea is to make the film reach to maximum number of people. We’re going to get more screens and thus revenue will be increased.”
Rajeev said, “GPSK is not one-day film. We’re going to stay long. Our intention is not going to get all monies in a single day.”
Rajeev said that GPSK has got phenomenal openings in Balakrishna’s career and stood as highest-ever in his career. He said he is proud of producing the film. “It’s been 17 years we returned to India from abroad. Every new year, Krish and me wish to do something great. Finally, after 17 long years, we feel proud that we both did something really great,” concluded Rajeev Reddy.
Meanwhile, it’s learnt that producers of GPSK are going to announce the official collections of the film sometime today or tomorrow.
After disappointing with Majnu, Nani is prepping up with Nenu Local. Although the film was supposed to hit the screens in December last year, due to demonetization and other prevailing conditions in the industry, the film has been postponed to Feb. Finally, the makers have unveiled the trailer of Nenu Local along with its audio launch today.
The trailer begins with an interesting dialogue of Nani about a girl student, a boy student preparing for exams. This was inspired from Trivikram’s dialogue in Nagarjuna’s Manmadhudu, yet the way Nani mouths it makes the difference. And this dialogue is followed by Mohan Babu’s popular dialogue from Pedarayudu.
The trailer sticks to the film’s tagline ‘Attitude is Everything’ and totally runs on Nani’s attitude. His characterisation stands out. Nani is after Keerthy Suresh for her love. And their chemistry looks good. Nani talks more and gives little chance for others to speak in this two-minute trailer.
Posani, Eeswari Rao as Nani’s parents bring laughs. Keerthy Suresh looks good and does a neat job. Director Trinadh Rao has weaved another romantic entertainer yet again. Background music is good.
Young woman lawyer Rachna Reddy Bollu, who has been waging a legal battle against the forcible land acquisition by the Telangana government for various irrigation projects, is now under aggressive attack from the fans of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on the social media.
With KCR himself making a statement in the assembly accusing Rachna Reddy of instigating the people and spreading blatant lies against the irrigation projects, his supporters have launched a tirade against her for stalling the projects. According to a media report, the KCR followers launched a campaign of character assassination against Rachna.
Some of them called her Shoorpanakha, others called her Hidimbi and Sikhandi and some others called her a puppet in the hands of some vested interests inimical to the development of Telangana.
A woman supporter even called Rachna a vamp, comparing her with Silk Smitha and Mumaith Khan for opposing KCR, whom the supporter call “Bapu and God”.
For the sake of record, Rachana is a practicing human rights lawyer. Hailing from Nizamabad, she studied in Hyderabad, Pune, and in UCLA, USA, where she specialised in Human Rights Law.
After practicing for 5 years in USA, she relocated to India, taught for a few years at NALSAR, Hyderabad.
Sridevi and her daughters are as fashion forward as they come. While the ‘English Vinglish’ actress is stunning and ageless as always, her daughters Jhanvi and Khushi now match up to their mom to perfection.
The divas along with Boney Kapoor were in Florence, Italy for a fashion show and the Kapoors made sure that they made most of it with an extended vacation.
And their Instagram pictures are giving new vacation and fashion goals to people out there. Check out their holiday pictures which will leave you green with envy.

Nara Devansh Naidu – the name of Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s grandson is not so unfamiliar to the people now.
In fact, he even made it to the national news a couple of months ago, when his father Nara Lokesh, general secretary of the Telugu Desam Party, declared that Devansh is richer than his grandfather Chandrababu Naidu.
While declaring the family assets, Lokesh said the total assets of Devansh were Rs 11.57 crore with no liabilities, whereas the assets of Naidu were worth Rs 3.73 crore, while he has loans to the extent of Rs 3.06 crore; indicating that the net worth of Naidu is only Rs 67 lakh.
Now, Devansh is back in the news again. Lokesh has declared that his son would take over the family business of Heritage Group in future.
“He is going to be my successor in heading the Heritage Group and continuing the business activities,” he said, while participating in the Sankranti celebrations in the Heritage milk factory premises at Chandragiri.
So, the future is set for Devansh and he has no worries about his career. But he is not even two years old now and it will take at least another 16 years to get a formal post in the company.
Till such time, his mother Brahmani would hold the forte, while Lokesh would get busy in politics!
Tollywood industry’s Power Star Pawan Kalyan is in the process of remaking Kollywood industry’s leading star Ajith’s movies Veeram and Vedhalam. It was stated that Chiranjeevi is also joining him and his next project will be the remake of Ajith’s 50th movie Mankatha.
Yet the official confirmation about the making is not announced. Pawan Kalyan’s fans are waiting eagerly to know their Star’s next project and as the news is not a confirmed one, presently there is no confirmation till date.
Currently Pawan Kalyan is acting in Katamarayudu with Shruthi Hassan and the shooting is going on in full swing. Keep watching for more updates.
As per latest report from sources it was stated that Chiranjeevi’s comeback movie Khaidi No 150 has made huge records and the collections have boosted up than anticipated. It was also stated that Power Star Pawan Kalyan is acting in Katamarayudu along with Shruthi Hassan.
Recently, ‘Khaidi No 150’ shattered all records at Box-Office. Presently anticipations are high for Pawan’s ‘Katmarayudu’ which is an Official remake of Kollywood industry’s star Ajith’s ‘Veeram’.
Trade sources feel this movie would easily beat ‘Khaidi No 150’. Ajith’s Veeram was a successful hit movie as far as Kollywood industry is concerned. Pawan Kalyan’s fans are waiting for the release of the movie at the earliest.
Things are not well between the Akkineni and Nandamuri families. Balakrishna neither turned up for the funeral of Akkineni Nageswara Rao nor did he invite the Akkineni family to his daughter’s wedding.
Also, when Nagarjuna went to his residence to sort out matters between them, he was given the message that Balayya was not at home although he was apparently at his home during the time of Nag’s visit.
But putting all issues behind him, Nagarjuna magnanimously congratulated Balakrishna and Krish on the eve of release of Gautamiputra Satakarni. This is really commendable on the part of Nagarjuna and by acting in such a mature manner, he has proved himself worthy as an elder in the industry.
A complete contrast is Junior NTR who is shunned by the Nandamuri family, yet tweeted his best wishes to his Babai while having no time to spare at all for the king of Tollywood, Chiranjeevi! As somebody once said, “Common sense is not so common.”
That Balayya is highly dedicated to his craft is a well-known fact. Most of the stars and technicians who had worked with Balayya in the past were all praises for his sincerity and supportive nature.
The producers of Balayya’s 100th movie, Gautamiputra Satakarni, are no exception. In a promotional interview, GPSK producers Rajeev Reddy and Bibo Srinivas hailed Balayya’s modesty and out of the way support during the making of Gautamiputra Satakarni.
While the entire Tollywood is in awe of GPSK makers for wrapping up such a grand project in just 79 days and 55 crores, the producers say that they couldn’t have pulled off this feat without Balayya’s support.
Apparently, Balayya strictly instructed the makers to only book economy class flight tickets during his journeys abroad. Balayya took this decision to cut excess expenditure keeping in mind the film’s lavish budget. Also, Balayya used to stay at modest hotels along with the rest of the cast instead of star hotels.
Furthermore, Balayya never left a call sheet go wasted even though he sustained injuries during the shooting. Terming Balayya as an inspiration to young generation stars, the producers also revealed that Balayya spent nearly 10 hours on a horse, which shows his commitment.
YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is trying all tricks to attract the people and win over them by 2019 assembly elections.
While he has already become famous for aping his father late chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in dialogue and diction, he has mastered the art of attacking rival Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu in strongest words. He also started feeling the pulse of the people by directly going into the people taking up their issues.
Now, the latest strategy to be adopted by Jagan, according to sources, is sporting dhoti and kurtha during his padayatra, which he proposes to take up in the second half of this year.
It is a known fact that YSR was the most charming personality and one of the reasons why he could attract the people was his attire – dhoti and kurtha, which reflected the typical Telugu personality. All through his historic padayatra in 2003, YSR had sported only dhoti even while walking with shoes. Despite rising to the level of chief minister, he did not change his attire.
Apparently, Jagan also thinks that this attire would fetch him mileage in the next elections. All these days, he was wearing only shirt and trousers which gave him a younger look and he appeared like a kid before Naidu. If he shifts to dhoti and kurtha, he thinks it would bring him a respectable image.
Former Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, who has gone into political oblivion ever since combined Andhra Pradesh was divided to carve out Telangana state, is back in the news.
On Saturday, on the occasion of Makara Sankranti, Lagadapati surfaced in Telangana and went to Yadadri to worship Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy.
He was so astonished with the expansion works going on in the temple premises that he immediately started praising Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
“It is highly commendable on the part of KCR to develop Yadadari as an international pilgrim centre. The developmental works are in full swing and I am sure, the temple will become on par with Tirumala. And KCR’s name will be written in golden letters in the history for Telugu states,” he said.
He reminded that Yadadri is a powerful temple and he could become an MP for the first time only after visiting the temple in 2004.
Lagadapati’s comments came as a major surprise, as he used to hate KCR the most during the Telangana agitation.
He ridiculed KCR’s fast and attacked the Telangana leader for abusing Andhras. He made all attempts to stall the Telangana state formation till last minute, including the infamous pepper spray incident. After Telangana state formation, Lagadapati did not contest the elections and quit the active politics.
Shatamanam Bhavati is a family drama that preaches about the values of family and the importance of caring our parents at their old age. It has lots of melodrama and good dose of rural humor which might be liked by the target audience. Although there are some touching moments in the film, wish it offered some variety to the genre.
Story:
Raghava Raju (Prakash Raj) sends a message to his kids that he is getting divorced from his wife (Jayasudha). All his kids and grandkids come to their house to know what went wrong between their parents that they have decided to get separated at this age. Raju (Sharwanand), grandson of Raghava Raju stays back in village to take care of his grandparents and does farming. Nithya (Anupama) who comes to village along with her parents fall in love with Raju.
Performances:
Sharwanand played a usual good guy character that doesn’t give much scope for him to emote. He is likeable as Raju and carried off his role with ease. Anupama is refreshing as the female lead. Chemistry between the lead pair is one of the plus points of this film. Prakash Raj and Jayasudha have done these characters many a time. It is a cakewalk for them. Sijju, Indraja are good in supporting roles. Praveen and Naresh provide a bit of humor.
Technicalities:
Vegesna Satish chose a story that doesn’t offer any freshness in terms of the plot. We have seen ample films with the same concept and this film doesn’t add anything new to the genre. He did well in getting the emotions right and offering clean family entertainment.
Mickey J Meyer’s music is the biggest asset to this film. Songs are melodious and easy on the ears. Background score is very impressive. Cinematography is very good with vibrant and colorful visuals. The lush green fields and the aerial shots of the nature are a treat to watch. Editing is fine. It is a quality product with rich production values.
However, things go downhill post interval as melodrama dominates the proceedings. Except for a few emotional splashes here and there, the second half doesn’t have much to offer. Climax should have been the high point to make this work, but things didn’t turn out as expected. Lengthy climax scene fails to make the desired impact.
Even the love story treads the beaten path and looks pale towards the end. Films like these work if the emotional part strikes a chord with the audience. Forced emotions didn’t help the cause and made it just another family drama without anything special about it. Shatamanam Bhavati reminds us of many films like Seetaramayyagari Manavaralu and Govindudu Andarivadele, which is its biggest weakness. There is just not enough in it to overcome the good feel and leave a lasting impression on its viewers.
Family audience will help the film to get decent openings during the festive weekend, but it may not go very far because of the script’s shortcomings. You may try it if you are a sucker for family dramas. For others Shatamanam Bhavati has very little to offer both on the script and entertainment front.
