Thai police look for suspects after bombs hit tourist sites

Share

thai

We hope we may have some suspects today or tomorrow,” Police Gen. Pongsapat Pongcharoen, a deputy national police chief, told reporters on Saturday. There was no claim of responsibility for the attacks on Thursday and Friday, which followed a successful referendum last weekend on a new constitution that critics say will bolster the military’s power for years to come.

The violence appeared aimed at dealing a blow to the country’s tourism industry, which brings in crucial income to the government. One small bomb exploded on a beach in Patong on the island of Phuket and four others rattled the seaside resort city of Hua Hin, prompting businesses to shut their doors, streets to empty and anxious tourists to huddle inside their hotels.

Eleven foreigners were wounded in the blasts, including nationals of Austria, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.“We hope we may have some suspects today or tomorrow,” Police Gen. Pongsapat Pongcharoen, a deputy national police chief, told reporters on Saturday. He did not elaborate, but said police were gathering evidence and that international militant groups were not believed to be behind the attacks.

Speaking late Friday, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said the attacks “struck at the hearts of all Thai people.”

Royal Thai Police Col. Krisana Patanacharoen also said on Friday that it was “too early to conclude” who was behind the attacks. But he said the bombings followed “a similar pattern used in the southern parts of the country” a reference to a low-level insurgency in the country’s largely Islamic south that has ground on for more than a decade and killed more than 5,000 people.

Southern militants fighting for greater autonomy have carried out sophisticated, coordinated attacks before, but most have hit three provinces in the far south that were not among those targeted this week. The violence occurred just ahead of the first anniversary of the Aug. 17 bombing of Bangkok’s popular Erawan Shrine, which left 20 dead and injured more than 120 others. Thai authorities said that bombing was revenge by a people-smuggling gang whose activities were disrupted by a crackdown, but analysts suspect it might have been the work of Uighur separatists angry that Thailand forcibly repatriated more than 100 Uighurs to China.

Foreign governments, including the United States, issued warnings urging travellers to use caution and avoid affected areas. Many of the tourists interviewed on Saturday were resuming their vacations while keeping an eye for any sign of trouble.“We feel pretty safe. At first we had a lot of mixed feelings, because we didn’t know the area well enough,” said Lexus Chlorad (21), from New York, after arriving in Hua Hin on Friday afternoon.

Carl Suensson (68), from Sweden, said on Saturday that “today it’s pretty OK, but yesterday was scary.”

“We follow the news 24 hours. Wherever there’s a lot of people, like the market, bars behind Hilton, the train station, we try to avoid it,” he added. The first bomb exploded in the southern province of Trang an area full of beautiful beaches and tourist islands killing one person and injuring six, according to police. Then on Thursday night, attackers in Hua Hin hid bombs on a busy street filled with bars and restaurants, planting them inside two potted plants and were detonated by remote control about half an hour apart.

One Thai woman was killed and about 20 people were wounded, 11 of them foreigners.

Last Sunday, Thai voters approved a referendum on a new constitution that is supposed to lead to an election next year. Critics say it is undemocratic and is fashioned to keep the military in control for at least five more years even if a free election is held.Friday’s blast took place on a public holiday marking the birthday of Thailand’s Queen Sirikit. The junta has repeatedly said that defending the monarchy is a top priority, and the army and its allies are eager to ensure a smooth succession for King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world’s longest-reigning monarch. Many foreigners living in Thailand have gotten used to bouts of violence.“I’ve seen it go up and down going through all the coups and everything,” said Gabrielle Boccer, a Swiss—Australian who has lived in Thailand for 25 years. “I’m just a little wary, but life goes on.”

When Indians insult Army, why should anyone join it?

army

Internal and External security of any nation is paramount to its existence. People of any country respect their armed forces and defence personnel to the core. However in India it is completely opposite. Indians right from the poorest of the poor to the powers that be expect the armed forces to serve them under all circumstances and difficulties but will not show the due respect.

when it comes to respect, whether it is in pay commission, fighting terrorists, helping in natural calamities, handling riots, protecting politicians, people and the powers that be treat armed personnel as their slaves. True that the are slaves of the nation but without one should show due respect when armed forces are ready to make supreme sacrifices even to separatists in Kashmir.

During encounters with terrorists,Army often face accusations of false encounters and govrenment and IAS babus along with human right organisations tie their hands robbing them off their first fire option thus putting their lives in risk. Successive governments fail to take care of the families of the armed personnel who laid their lives making supreme sacrifices. Politicians boast of one rank one pension but after many decades, even in 7th pay commission they didnot get their due.

Government headed by PM Modi constituted committee headed by retired judge AK.Mathur for 7th pay commission. The panel had many members representing various sections of employees but what surprised many is none from the armed forces was included to address their problems. Many wonder how other members can understand the troubles of the army personnel who are gaurding the rough terrains.

After the recommendations of AK.Mathur was accepted by the Government, Armed forces dashed off a letter to the PM Modi and defence minister Manohar Parikkar. Even during 6th pay commission report, armed forces wrote letter to the then PM and defence minister and now the situation is similar as they faced lowering of status.

AKMathur bluntly says Armed forces are getting the best but what he failed to explain is how could IAS officer in Guwahati can get equal pay and extra allowance on par with a soldier working in Siachin, known to be the toughest terrain to guard. Unless until Government and people of the country learn to respect Armed forces, no one will come forward to serve the nation putting their lives in risk. Instead they prefer lucrative software jobs and fly to other countries.

AP Gov Invites NTR, How About Pawan?

Share

pawan

The latest developments in Andhra Pradesh Politics reveal the meticulous tactics of TDP Supreme Chandrababu Naidu.Chandrababu, who cleverly took the help of Jana Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan to win elections in 2014, is now looking towards NTR Jr to help his party sail through in the 2019 general elections. As Pawan has already announced that Jana Sena will contest the 2019 elections on its own, Naidu is making efforts to reconcile with NTR Jr to use him as a weapon against the stardom of Pawan.

It may be noted that NTR Jr had extensively campaigned for TDP during 2009 elections. Later, differences cropped up between NTR and the duo of Naidu and Balakrishna. It is heard that although NTR tried to make peace, Balayya’s ego stopped the reconciliation of Naidu and NTR then. As a result, NTR was not even invited to campaign for TDP during 2014 elections. After TDP won the polls, the distance grew further. He was not invited for Mahanadu and Amaravati Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony either.

On the other hand, there is no clarity on invitation to Pawan. If the AP ministers had personally invited Pawan, like they did in the case of NTR, it would have been a massy headline. On the whole, analysts believe that TDP’s love towards NTR is only to nullify the effect of Pawan in future.

Beautiful actress Samantha, who has never missed the audio releases of her films, has surprisingly given a miss to her upcoming big budget film, ‘Janatha Garage’, whose audio release event was held on Friday evening at Shilpa Kala Vedika in Hyderabad.Even though Samantha cited illness as reason for skipping the event, gossipmongers tell a different theory. It is heard that Samantha was preparing well to attend ‘Janatha Garage’ audio launch event as it could be her last film (she is rumored to have stopped signing film in lieu of wedding with Naga Chaitanya).

But, after watching the film’s trailer, she had got so disappointed that she cancelled her plan and skipped the event citing health concerns. Those who have seen the trailer are well aware that Samantha was hardly introduced in it. Nithya Menen who is playing second fiddle, also has dialogues in the trailer but Samantha has none. She was shown in just 2-3 blink-and-miss shots.

Disappointed Samantha is heard to have decided to abandon the film’s promotions as well.

Now, Sirish Wants A Film With Rajamouli

allushirish

Well, who doesn’t want to act under Tollywood’s numero uno director SS Rajamouli’s direction? It is now the turn of Allu Sirish to aspire to act even in a small part in an SS Rajamouli film.Allu Sirish is still promoting his recently released romantic family drama, Srirastu Subhamasthu. He recently interacted with a Bengaluru-based journalist of leading English national news daily and said he would be happy if a filmmaker like SS Rajamouli offers him a part in a mass-appealing movie.

However, Sirish is in no hurry to turn a mass hero as he plans to act in a few more romantic films a mature as an actor before taking up action hero roles. As of now, Sirish prefers college romantic films.

Sirish also expressed his wish to be part of Srirastu Subhamasthu’s Kannada remake if senior Kannada star Ramesh Aravind helms the remake as being speculated. Well, this Allu hero certainly has big dreams.

Only Drawback in ‘Janatha Garage’ Trailer

The theatrical trailer of NTR’s ‘Janatha Garage’ has been unveiled to great response from movie lovers. The powerful and youthful screen presence of NTR, the fresh subject of hero’s love with nature, stunning visuals, pulsating background score, Koratala Siva’s taking and many more positives were observed in the trailer. But, viewers were disappointed with only one aspect and that is Mohanlal.

Well, who can complain about Mohanlal’s acting ability and his screen presence. What bothered everyone was the dubbing for him. Just few days ago, Mohanlal’s comeback Telugu film ‘Manamantha’ was released in which Mohanlal’s original voice was heard. Telugu audiences, who got connected with his original voice, are now unable to digest the dubbing voice used for him in ‘Janatha Garage’ trailer. Whenever, Mohanlal uttered a dialogue in the trailer, it sounded like watching a Telugu dubbed version.

It is heard that Mohanlal couldn’t dub for the trailer due to his busy schedule but he will definitely dub for the theatrical film. If this mistake is not rectified, it will definitely show its impact after film’s release.

Thikka Movie Review

Share

Story

Adithya (Sai Dharam Tej) is a working professional who enjoys his life as any employed bachelor. On a very first sight of Anjali (Larissa Bonessi) who hits his car, he falls for her. He makes her fall for him. Irritated by his nature Anjali breaks with him and gives him a letter which Adithya don’t read. Adithya by this breakup is very upset and parties with his friends with sadness and creates huge ruckus wherever they go. Finally they go to Anjali’s marriage venue and creates problem calling Anjali out. He then receives call from Anjali asking him to come to regular place as per the plan in the letter. Why did she break with him?? What is the plan in the letter?? How he solved all the problems forms the rest of the story.

Performance

Sai Dharam Tej is nice as Adithya. He is improving a lot from movie to movie. He is not so convincing when he talks sober. He looks good but in the same look as his previous movies. Larissa Bonessi is okay as Anjali. Mannara Chopra is good. She looks beautiful in some scenes. Satya as friend of Aditya, Steve is good. Sapthagiri and Tagubothu Ramesh are hilarious. Ali is good but mask used to show him as bald looks artificial and unconvincing. Ajay is psychotic and performed well. Rajendra Prasad is impressive as Adithya’s father. Vennela Kishore is super funny as Jayanth. All other artists are fine for their roles.

Technical Performance

Story of Thikka is good and simple. Screenplay is mediocre and dialogues are good.Tunes rendered by SS Thaman are nice. Thikka Thikka song is an instant chartbuster. Background score is nice which help scenes work even more. Cinematography by K.V.Guhan is fantastic. His visuals made this movie look super rich in quality. Editing by Karthika Srinivas is good. Action sequences are choreographed and shot well. Production values are rich.

Plus points

Final Say

This movie begins with after effects of ruckus created by Adithya and gang over a breakup night and moves into flashback mode when Adithya is about to kill himself with poison. This flashback is engaging at beginning and becomes pale after a couple of scenes with screenplay.Thikka thikka song which is a chartbuster fails to reach the expectations and leaves audience seeking more. Interval scene is average and fails to create the much needed curiosity for the second half. Characters comes for scenes and go without having any prominence. Second half begins in jail where Adithya and gang are tied by Posani follwed by Vellipoke song which seems forced for the situation. Comedy injected in the scenes of second half are a big let down at times. This story has more back stories and twists which misfire due to screenplay. There are many scenes involving slow motion shots which are good to watch. Numerous glass breaks, many vehicle accidents, breakup scenes, ruckus in public places, slow motion shots are the core of this Thikka. To sum up, Thikka is a very thikka film from Sai Dharam Tej which fails to impress audience.
